People are convinced sombra is super strong, is probably why. Very much the mindset of people who only played her when she was strong a little while ago. Or who have never played her. As a sombra main, I can tell you here it wouldn't have done anything. They were playing too close together, they had brig, they had torb. That's nightmare for a sombra.
Peoples dont react to her and then are like "Sombra shouldnt exist she is op" I mostly play brig and it's feel kinda easy to take care of her as long as one person doesn't ignore her
the first round would've been a great time to go sombra tho, that tracer was hyperaggressive and a single hack to them in your backline would mean their death, that creates a 4v5 where your team can either target the turret or you can hack it and tp without being tracked by tracer. some people say brig counters sombra but in order for brig to attack she can't use her shield, and if she is using her shield she isn't healing - so just knowing this and playing around it with a virus and making sure to shoot her only when her shield is down will likely result in her death, and if not she's likely to die bc you'd be behind them and she'd be shielding away from the rest of your team - which has the turret hacked/destoryed and the tracer dead. regardless after that tracer is dead its easy pickings, so i can see why they suggested Sombra at first. Sombra doesn't always have to be in the enemy backline, sometimes its best to play in your backline/frontline. Im a master sombra main who watches Questron religiously.
Then you'd know that if a sombra is playing frontline she's playing less effectively and at that point it's better to just have stuck with Sojourn/Tracer/Ashe. I wouldn't say there's a single thing a sombra can do in the frontline/their own teams backline that makes her a better choice than those three. Hack is too easy to interrupt. And if brig just flicks her shield once to block virus its pretty much gg. Unless sombra is very accurate. Brig has armor, and self heals. Any half decent brig is a dangerous target for a sombra not an easy pick. Especially if they're guarding their other support because then the other support will likely help them.
I try to avoid using Sombra when I'm dps as I find her fun, but so annoying to deal with. However, if the other team picks Widow I'm swaping to Sombra until they swap off (which usually happens after a couple of deaths). I don't feel great about it, but widow is just as annoying to play against as sombra.

@Emongg Can't know the thought process but as someone who plays Plat I can probably guess. The bastion, ignoring the fact that they might not be that good at many heroes, likely thinks if they swap off bastion the Junkerqueen will be uncontested (along with the old low elo fallacy I have higher stats therefore I'm not the problem here) I see less of it in Plat but in general teams at low elo don't trust anyone playing "Sniper" on dps and if they arn't consistently diffing people start getting antsy about having them since they trade consistent output for aim dependent output (ignoring that you need aim, even on high burst damage projectile heroes, to get consistent elims) The other factor in play is the tracer not only is getting a ton of harassment early but also seems to have both sojourn and the support line completely distracted. One of the few things sombra does sometimes provide at plat and lower is an excellent deterrent to solo dives. You don't necessarily swap sombra to dive the widow (since it can be a mixed bag in Plat as to whether the enemy support line turtles around their widow enough to deny any solo dive attempt which you alluded to in saying that dealing with widow is usually a team effort) You play sombra so that when the tracer dives in she gets hit with an unexpected counterattack that threatens to disrupt her ability to disengage. Granted for that to work you either need to get the kill or the other dps needs to hard carry while you trade your time for the enemy tracer's. Now a sufficiently skilled tracer usually beats a skilled sombra but as long as you dont over pursue in Plat it should be sufficient to stop the tracer dead in her tracks and free up the supports to do their jobs. Not that I think the Bastion is thinking along those lines nor that I think it would be worth trying but at least in my own mind if a tracer is living rent free in the mind of sojourn who really ought to be focused on everything else in the lobby it might be worth swapping to a character that can more consistently peel her though sombra isn't exactly the first choice that comes to mind... more like option 3.
