Thank you so much for this very good video. I’ve been a registered nurse for 11 years and I’m ashamed to say, IVE NEVER STARTED AN IV!!! We were taught in school but I’d always let someone on the floor start it for me. I didn’t stay in hospital setting too long; opted to work in long term facilities. Not many IVs to start there. My last jobs were care manager and case manager. With that being said, Can you please simplify what size needles is for what situation. I’d appreciate it so much! Can you do a course on IV calculations?
This is a great video overall, the only exception being that you didn't explain attaching the flush to the iv tubing and priming it first before attaching it to the catheter. That's a super important part since not priming the tubing can cause air emboli in the bloodstream. From looking at the tubing as you attached it, it looks like it was primed, but since this is a teaching video it would be good to explain that part since it's not obvious to the new learner.
Thank for this great video. I'm an lvn about to start my clinicals for my rn. I love these videos to brush up on skills and get my confidence before getting in front of my instructors. This was perfect
Great video. Have to connect a normal saline flush to the extension tubing first and then prime the extension tubing prior to connecting it to the catheter
It's a good thing that said only for nurses and not paramedics. It would be scary for a nurse to teach a paramedic to do anything nothing like waiting on orders to just assess a patient
Yes, it is best to have it done prior to sticking the patient so it’s ready to go once you have access. I guess she did it off camera because it wasn’t demonstrated in the video. But yes, you’re right - the extension tubing must be primed BEFORE attaching it to the cannula port so that you can safely flush the IV.
Is the IV extension necessary for all infusions? I work in a dental office and sometimes for surgeries we do not have it available and i am told to attach the tubing straight to the catheter hub
Not necessarily but i find it more easy to have the extension attached when giving medications because some patients says it hurts when attaching the syringe without the extension. Don’t know if that makes sense
I was practicing an iv yesterday and I got flash back from my needle, kept trying to advance my catheter but it wouldn’t advance and it was causing dimpling over the vein and my classmate complained of pain. Did I advance the catheter too early? Or did I not go deep enough with the needle? Thanks! Great video!
Can you please correct the fact that your "clean" glove is on the IV site where you are now going to cover with a clear, sterile dressing? The site should never be touched. Unless the gloves are sterile, you may introduce microbes at the site, then cover with a nice dressing and let them grow undisturbed. Also, the IV should be stabilized until dressing on. It is very painful for the catheter to be flopping around as you flush.

I'm so happy you made this video. I never learned how to put an IV in nursing school and am afraid I won't have enough experience in orientation.
Hi my new RN!!!! I’m glad it will help you. I will be doing on the actual IV sites next !❤️
That is why I am reviewing! :) it’s been 2 years since RN school and at my former employer we don’t have patient on IVs just PICC lines. Thank you!
@@colleenmorgan8224 you are welcome!
@@colleenmorgan8224 I made the mistake of going to jobs where I didn’t have to start IV; long term care and stand alone psych facilities

How can a RN cause a patient to get thrombophlebitis in the arm?
It can be caused by many factors…is the patient prone to? Or maybe passing the vein?
@@DrRegisteredNurse Patient is not prone. First time ever happened.
GREAT EXPLANATION !!!
Thank you
Thank you for the video really helpful

Excelent explenation
Great Informational video, but I think it would be helpful to some to show and explain when and how to remove the tourniquet.
This is so helpful!! thank you!
Thank you for watching! ❤️
Most effective video.

I appreciate you giving a demonstration of how to stick an IV in the right way.
Also, could you please review some face masks if possible?
Ok

Couldn't you also prime the flush tubing before connecting it to the IV to prevent bubbles? Great video by the way! :D
I always do that when preparing my supplies prior to insertion...I did that in the video

Will you show us how to discontinue / remove an IV or saline lock ?
Can you show us how to program a I V drop by machine and by gravity?
I can...make sure to stay tuned!

Is the cubital vein this close to the wrist to be avoided bc of the risk of nerve damage?
Wowwwww thank you 🙏

You should add flush to ive tubing before inserting iv and have it attached and waiting first
What was the second background musical track? Who recorded whatever song it is?
I would have to check
i don't get the point of the tegaderm if it's not covering the insertion site?
Where are located? Do you offer classes?
can you give iv line without cannula, if yes what is disadvantage of it.
Do you not remove that band you put on before you started?
Did you watch the entire video? It was removed.
At what point are we supposed to take the tourniquet off?
I’m in school and can’t get a clear answer..
As soon as you get a flash!
@@DrRegisteredNurse thank you!!

Best vid to get scared from them even more:
Is this iv location safe ??
Yes
No tourniquet?
There is a tourniquet on.
@@DrRegisteredNurse oh sorry I must have missed it.
