And after my HR would not get up to my normal levels for workouts and it took over a year for my HR to get back to normal. I have heard rumors of Covid having lasting impacts on heart heath. Not saying that’s what’s happening just saying run of the mill illnesses can really linger.

    I recently took 4 weeks off sick with chickenpox and bronchitis and damn it was depressing how much i'd lost. It's insane how much the body can detrain in just a few weeks. The first few rides on the trainer just pissed me off, zero enjoyment. 6 weeks later and i'm pretty much back to pre sickness levels of fitness. It's frustrating that we lose fitness so much faster than we gain it but setbacks are all a part of the bigger process and all you can do is grind through the return to fitness.

    • @na-dk9vm
      @na-dk9vm Год назад +1

      Just an input here, dunno if you'll agree. If you had taken 4 weeks off just to relax, you might not have been feeling so bad on returning as you did now. Bronchitis hits the lungs hard. So maybe that's what you feel now. Maybe you hadn't lost as much fitness as you'd thought, it's just that your lungs are wrecked from that sickness. It happened to me with COVID. I didnt stop training for too long, but still was wrecked after I came back.

    • @stu3232
      @stu3232 Год назад +1

      @@na-dk9vm Yeah you might be right actually. I was shocked by how much i'd lost, it seemed excessive for what i'd expect from a month on the couch. I lost about 40-50 watts at the same HR on the bike and about 30 seconds per km at the same HR running from that 4 weeks off. Probably half of that loss came back within 2 weeks, and the rest a bit slower. Its funny though, you hear pro athletes talk about how unfit they feel after a Christmas holidays break, I think if you can avoid it or unless you're forced through injury/sickness its probably never worth taking long periods of voluntary full rest, I find it a real downer feeling like all your hard work is gone. Even doing some lower volume zone 1 or zone 2 work seems to go a long way to maintaining fitness.

    • @na-dk9vm
      @na-dk9vm Год назад

      @@stu3232 yeah man, you prob didn't lose that much fitness at all, the sickens just wrecked your lungs. Supposedly, a person only gains and losses fitness every 10-14 days. And when losing its only a small %.
