I have noticed that as well. I think part of it is because some horror movies are hard to find or only available on one format like VHS, and I think a lot of people have nostalgic memories of watching horror movies with their friends as teenagers. Horror movies also offer a unique type of thrill compared to action movies or other genres and I think there are a lot of hidden gem horror movies out there since some of them are low budget and don't use big name actors.
