4k is a mine field and some of the reviews aren't honest because they are given the movies for free to plug on their channels.

I've been a "hard copy" collector since '19 when I bought a cabin deep in the woods with no internet access. I now have over 2500 titles in my collection. The big problem with physical media is finding room in your house for a library in which to store all of them. So, I store all of my discs in binders and then put the empty DVD boxes, packed in cardboard boxes (banana boxes work the best), in the attic or garage. Most of my binders hold 400 discs, but a few of them are smaller. I have all of these binders in a 4' x 4' bookshelf. One other point: The production of players may dwindle as folks stop buying new DVD's & Blu-rays. So, I recommend having several backup players. They don't last forever. I have around 10 Blu-ray players. I've purchased all of them at estate sales & garage sales. I can usually pick them up for 5 to 20 dollars apiece. I've found that LG and Sony are the best. Panasonic is also pretty good. I've had at least two Samsungs that bit the dust.

Vinyl was ruined by hipsters who see records more as a collector's item and a statement about their own personality, but even more than that, as an investment. Instead of something that's meant to be played and enjoyed. Hence the insane prices they now command, even adjusted for inflation often more than what tey were worth when they originally came out in the 70s to 90s. It sucks, and I am still hoping the same doesn't happen with CDs.

This is a great 4k player. I do have a Sony ubp-x800, my first ever, a ps-5, Philips bdp7502 4k player, lg ubk-70 and a Sanyo fwbp807fp. Also a non working Panasonic dmp-ub900 thx 4k player. And also several Blu-ray Sony players. This Panasonic 820 is connected to my Sony 65x950h tv. The picture is amazing. I’m enjoying the Sanyo 4k player on my lg b2 65 oled. Cheers 🍻

I've been collecting physical copies of movies and shows for many years now. I've really ramped up my purchasing of them in the last couple years with the multiple Blu-ray manufacturing plants shutting down and stores not selling Blu-rays anymore. I doubt they'll go away anytime soon, but everything comes to an end. Best to start buying up everything you like now before it's too late. It won't be long until we're all slaves to streaming platforms. Paying for bullshit ads, low streaming quality, garbage "originals" and the removal and editing of all movies and shows at the platform's whims.

For people that think 4K blu-ray ain't much of an improvment if any over a regular blu-ray haven't watched them with a quality player, on not just an OLED but on a QDOLED at a minimum of 65 inches, and a 7.2.4 surround sound. The surround sound system uses highend speakers, quality AVR with a high wattage, build like a tank, external 7-channel power amp that powers the 7 bed layer speakers and just the 4 atmos speakers being powered by the AVR which also has a pretty decent internal amp. Also topped off with dual SVS PB-3000 subwoofers. These subs are nothing like you'd see (or hear) at your local big box store or even most audio dealer that ain't online dealers. They go lauder then I'll ever need them to go and they hit about 13hz in room (rated for 17hz), and they have so much power, both peak and continues that I'll never hit their limits even if I try by turning them up to 11. So, go out and watch a good 4K blu-ray on a system like mine, or one that is equivalent or better. Go do that, and then come back and with a straight face and tell everyone again how 4K blu-ray is no better then a normal blu-ray.

I collected 500 DVD's over the last two years......I pay $1.00 CAD per used DVD. It is a GREAT hobby.

What happens to ur physical media if it gets lost or stolen or disc rot then u have to rebuy it. Or if u have a house fire or house flood that ruins and damages ur physical media. When u pass away ur loved ones aren’t gonna appreciate the physical media like u and will be sold for pennies on the dollar

I already have a ps5 and I'm trying to justify the purchase of a second hand ub820 for $400 AUD just for Dolby vision, I mainly only watch 4K content and I don't know how much better is dolby vision compared to regular HDR since I don't have anything to compare it to side by side, but both looked great to me though, so I don't know if I should get the ub820 or not, too bad the ps5 doesn't have dolby vision as I would love an all in one solution.

My Sony x800 plays eArc. You have to allow in setting for ur receiver to handle it.

If Netflix put all there shows on dvds i would have 2000 of there good movie adding to my current dvd blu ray collection which stands at 3000 thst i remember slowly still buying more when i can my parents don't understand,

What about Panasonic DP-UB450 ?

I got the Panasonic and was worried it wasn't worth it over the PS5 I already have. But I want to see that Dolby Vision and also get the upgraded sound/picture. Hopefully it was worth the purchase and luckily it was on sale for $350.

Great video! I’m always amazed how cheap dvds are at the thrift store and I usually find my records and tapes at a local book store for around $5 each. I’d rather pay that and own it forever!

Oh I'm so ready to greatly expand the DVD collection that I already have!! I don't subscribe to any streaming services. Don't need to and I abandoned cable and regular TV six years ago. Give me the old classic 60s, 70s and 80s shows and movies of my youth preserved on DVD!!

It depends on the movie. Some movies are absolutely no different in 4K and FHD other than a slight difference in lighting. Some movies there is no visible difference unless you put it under a scope. Like with animation, makes no difference. Where it is worthwhile is on big, expensive productions like Lawrence of Arabia, Alien, Mad Max/Road Warrior... These are some quality 4K discs I've seen. Mainly older movies that get restored. Newer movies it makes less difference because most times those are just 2K upscales anyway. Lots of times they do not want to pay to do a new scan and restore everything. Blu-ray is still perfectly fine.

I gave my vhs...beta...laserdisc collections away.. with their players on Craigslist NY a few years ago...just lost interest after awhile and taking up a lot of space in my house and for renting a storage unit. No regrets.

For me, sound and picture quality are important, but streaming is not. I have a dedicated box for that, so there's no need for my Blu-ray player or my TV to handle that job. All things considered, the most important thing (again for me, your mileage may vary) is that the player be able to play pretty much anything I throw at it - MKV, MP4, WMV, AVI or whatever.

Vhs tapes last longer than your money does

I remember when it came out. I told everyone in my office and family. We knew it wouldn’t last but wow did we all enjoy it. Then when it was going down I knew the ceo wasn’t ready to hang the gloves and knew he would go for a split so we all made bank out of that too. It was a win win. Loved it back then but their time has now passed.
