Honestly, I really like history and wanted to watch ITV's Victoria without heartache and pain but these two characters have such great chemistry and I really love their relationship and it's a shame it won't happen between them (damn history)
I really hope you like this video and tribute to them, making this really was emotional for me, but looking at Lord M/Rufus Sewell's face all day was not bad at all!

I don't care about history, in this show I just prefer LordM and even if at the end of the series everyone will be about Albert&Victoria because itv will try hard to make us love them, I know myself enough to know I won't. LordM was the personification of elegance, wit and honor and he loved her and his country and so much that he stepped aside without hesitation, he actually pushed her to marry when she wanted to stay single for him. He could have said 'yes', he could have married her despite the huge political problem (a queen must marry a prince + she must be impartial to whigs/tories) which might have led to more insurrections and her sanity questioned again. He stepped aside for her sake and the sake of the crown. One man in 10millions would renounce to be prince consort, one in 20millions if that would also mean he would be able to stand beside the woman he loves. If the situation was reversed, Albert wouldn't. It's not his attitude, he's passionate, strong-headed and ego. I'm glad Victoria loved Albert instead of feeling lonely, but Lord M will always be twice the man Albert was to me.
Too bad none of it is true though.
Actually most of it is true (not the Brocket Hall confession, of course, but the fact they had feelings for each other), just not well known because certainly it's more convenient for the royal family to sell a perfect fairy tale. .. I have read a lot of books about it, for example Lady Longford super-famous biography of Victoria, David Cecil's biography of Lord M, a book specifically targeted on Victoria's Love interests called "Heart of a Queen: Queen Victoria's romantic attachments", Chales Greville's memoirs and others and they ALL mention Victoria had a huge (requited) crush on Melbourne (it is evident even reading Victoria's diaries, though heavily censored by Victoria herself and by her daughter Beatrice) and he actually step aside.
I have a university degree in British history and no it's not true. She viewed Melbourne as a father figure, never as a lover or someone she might marry. He was white haired, overweight and at the time she began her reign, in his mid-50's. She was already plump, had pop eyes and a beaky nose. She was never pretty. He was jealous when she got married but it was more the loss of her close friendship that he mourned. He actually died ten years later of old age. Old in Victorian times was in your 60's. TV always romanticizes relationships to a ridiculous degree at the expense of truth.
Oh, of course, your having a degree in Brit history automatically means that you MUST be the leading authority on Victoria's personal relationships! I just can't wrap my head around why no one's contacted you about restoring the missing fragments from Victoria's diaries - I'm sure you could do so verbatim, what with your knowing everything there is to know on the subject.

I find people like you particularly awful, as well as quite sad, tbh - you only live to suck the joy out of everything you do not agree with, regardless of what that means to others. Like what are you even doing on a Vicbourne fanvid, posting this kind of hateful, arrogant commentary ; protip - you're not ~educating anyone, you're not proving you're better than anyone [I'm a History graduate, but I wouldn't use that the ugly way you have] or that your ship is better. You're just someone with an OPINION and a horrid lack of basic decency and manners.

There is something amazing in their eyes... In his I see sadness, care and a little bit of faith, but in hers... I am not able to say for sure.
In her eyes I see tenderness and vulnerability when she's around him, but also yearning and hopefulness.
I think the chemistry between the actors is very strong. The way they speak to each other, it's so soulful and their body language so sensual. I can't explain it, but I can feel all that through their every interaction.
How phenomenal of an actor is Rufus Sewell! I also loved him in Tristan and Isolde. His look captivates you and that's without saying a word. He's been in so many amazing movies and dramas. One of my all time favourite actors and sounds in interviews so genuine. Love him!

I don't think that she wanted to and she never really forgot him tbh, when he left in season one you could clearly see that he will always have a special place in her heart, plus he actually kind of pushed her to do it. And given the circumstances she has grown up in, I can't imagine how much she must've longed for someone who would love her back, not saying that Lord M didn't, but he stepped aside willingly so that she could find somebody else, which btw I'm still mad at him that he actually did that, because I believe that he was the only one who could truly understand her and give her the love and support that she needed. Idc about history, they were perfect for each other.

Wonderful video! :) In fact before Victoria met Albert because of her frank friendship with Melbourne there were rumours that she was going to marry him. They were good friends, but scenarists just developed this by-plot.
I was just writing elsewhere that I wish we knew what Victoria wrote in the deleted part of her diaries...part of it was certainly about her sexual life with Albert and he lover and likely secret second husband Brown, but if we think Beatrice cut off 2/3 of them thinking they were inappropriate etc, it's not impossible at all there was something about LordM she cut off...if an old victoria could marry in secret, I would not be surprised if a young victoria proposed to lord m
well, we don't know for sure whether there was a romantic relationship between them or not, because the remaining volumes of Victoria's diaries were transcribed after her death by her youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice who was instructed by her mother to remove anything controversial from them. Princess Beatrice removed 1/3 of the diary entries.

LOL, I just finally got to see the first 3 episodes of Series 1. Episode 3 ended with Albert showing up. I am crushed. I know history and know Queen Victoria mourned for Albert after his passing. The history books say she was depressed after his passing. So she loved him for sure. But seeing the Chemistry between her and Lord M. Whether or not that was as serious as it is portrayed on the show. Seeing it makes me wish it had happened in real life. Lord M was 40yrs her senior. So would have made for an odd couple for sure. But love knows no age.
Rufus Sewell should have played Albert, and Albert (I didn't even learn his name-shame!) should have played M. Oh darn, that wouldn't have worked either.
Well, this video tore my heart out, stomped on it, and then through me out a window, but other than that it was phenomenal. 10/10

Truly gorgeous fanvid - a fitting tribute to the most heartbreakingly beautiful ship I've ever seen in a TV series [I can completely relate to your experience - I just wanted to watch a drama of my fave historical period in peace; I could never have imagined having my heart stolen and then cruelly crushed by these two. I mostly blame it on Rufus and Jenna, on their amazing performances and unbelievable chemistry together, but also on the way Daisy Goodwin wrote them (to me, their relationship was the very soul of this show; the best of it - which is even more obvious in her novelisation); that's why the last eps of S1 and S2 were pretty much a chore to go through, as I found myself mostly bored - this coming from a History buff - and indifferent].
Everything, from the colouring [lovely and vivid, like a sunset; or autumn - which is, unfortunately, symbolically appropriate for them and Melbourne in particular], to the song choice [Birdy always infuses her songs with such an overwhelmingly haunting, melancholic feeling and this one's no exception; also, the LYRiCs - 'under a trillion stars' ; 'In the moment, we're lost and found/ I just wanna be by your side/ If these wings could fly/ For the rest of our lives' - they could so easily apply to Victoria and Lord M's devotion to each other, to Victoria's struggle for and love of freedom etc etc], to the clip selection [you got all their best, most defining moments] and editing itself [AMVs including the original dialogue without messing with the music/ the flow of it all is incredibly tricky, but you did it almost seamlessly] is perfect and, again - so quintessentially THEM. No wonder I can't watch this without feeling my heart ache.
So thank you so much for sharing [and apologies for this behemoth of a comment] !

If only there was a spin off wherein it didn't follow actual historical events and just let these two get together 😆 I mean just in the way they look at each other there's so much tension already. And the fact that he seems to be her "first innocent love" and that she's part of the reason as to why he's continuing on with life despite everything he's going through is just plain beautiful. love the clips that you choose but he loved her as a daughter i think and not a sexual way. It was a very beautiful releationship. I hate to break it to people but in real life she never proposed to lord Melbourne. Besides, he was well into his fifties when she was 18. To ship a couple with that large of an age gap is a little disturbing
Makes a good movie but historically it's completely incorrect. He was fat, old and fell asleep at court, snoring loudly. They were never a couple and Albert was the love of her life.
