All I can say is this was the best pure music show I have ever seen on TV. And the fact that it was so short-lived, even in its late night Sunday slot, says a lot about what's wrong with programming on the tube...especially when it comes to music.
Yes, right, damn right. I find myself thinking about Night Music again and again over the years. Sanborn brought together all kinds of musicians, gave them the spot light for a moment, shared their wonderful music and every show gave us a glimpse of greatness.
This period was the happiest in Stevie's life. He was clean & sober, playing better than he ever had in his life and just having so much fun up on stage, the notes really did just flow effortlessly it seemed out of his fingers. Just one of the biggest tragedies ever in music history he would be dead within a year or 2 of this here at only 36.
This is the most diverse and fantastic 45 minute music TV program that I've seen. Really wonderful performances and great videos of The Platters and Roland Kirk and Stevie Ray's "Some of my favorite things"... and Pharoah!
Night Music was hosted by David Sanborn and produced by Lorne Michaels Company and for a short run on TV in the 1980’s had the best damn music in the history of the medium
SRV and Hiram Bullock, elbow to elbow. Awesome! I worked at my college's jazz radio station back then and there was huge excitement over the Night Music show and its eclectic format. It was brief but amazing.
What a great show! And what an amazing performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan. It's a pity Night Music was so short-lived. It's not often you see such an eclectic selection of excellent musicians and diverse musical styles.
Amongst the many superlatives of this performance, big hand to Tom Barneyfor switching from hardcore electric bass to groovyness on the upright! Sweeet!!!
Showing why he became the go to guy as far as session drummers went at the time. Right up there with Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Perdie & Steve Gadd as the best in the buisness and heard he is nothing short of a great guy, all class.
Awesome..Stevie Ray Vaughan can't be on no better show then this..action and attraction leads to distraction..All in the name of music..Stevie' strat is sounding out and the band is spontaneously good..What a great performance..I'm listening and its phenominal..
Man, Nite Music brings back memories of me staying up on Sunday nights. It used to air on WNBC in New York @ 12:15AM right after The George Micheal Sports Machine. Then wh en I was in the Navy in San Diego it would come on KUSD @12AM (An NBC affiliate). I thought NBC was nationally boardcasting this show.
Thank you I've been trying to get information on this show. It seems like it came and went. But then I guess BET, Soul Train and new jack swing were getting so much of my attention during that time
Thanks for posting. This show always put on an interesting and VARIED mix of musicians, something sadly lacking in today's programming. One complaint my friends and I (at that time) had, and I still feel is true: the loss of Jools Holland as cohost in the second season was not an improvement. . .
Damn ,thanks so much for posting this. A relatively slow episode of Night Music, but even a slow episode of this show was great. And SRV absolutely KILLING it.
Wow! What an awesome program. It says something about David Sanborn that he would put together such stellar and diverse talent. Did this show run in syndication? I don't ever remember seeing it on the Big 3 or Fox
Question to fans of this show who are also fans of some contemporary musicians: Who would be a good host for this show if it came back? My pick is Robert Glasper.
Robert Curry Herbie Hancock man! No doubt a man who gives so much and probably actually would do it! Robert Glasper is a bad ass though can't deny that.
If NBC's Thursday Night line-up fails completely, this should be the show to replace two of the four shows at 9:00 PM. They can still name it Night Music. It can be a cheap show to produce.
WIKIPEDIA > "Sunday Night (American TV program)" -- later named "Michelob Presents Night Music" -- is a late-night television show which aired for only TWO seasons between 1988 and 1990. GIVES a WHOLE LISTING of WHO was on WHAT EPISODE Number. DON'T KNOW if they are AVAILABLE for viewing, but... LOADED with SO MANY GREAT ARTISTS !!
I LOVE me some Stevie Ray! What a gifted, amazing musician, and he was a great vocalist, as well. It ‘s so good to see Stevie and another great guitarist who died young, Hiram Bullock, jamming with each and having so much fun! Thanks for posting this video. 🙏🏿❤🎸
W0W ! I remember this show ! It was my favorite, right when I started playing music. Don Alias, Omar Hakim, Hiram Bollock and so many great musicians. Of course hosted by David Sanborn's epic hair. Live with Jules Holland was great too. So good to see this again. Question: was this a Lorne Michael production? Thanks for posting, gonna have to rewind Stevie Ray.
Stevie Ray Vaughan must be filling in for somebody on the tonight show....Stevie playing in the band...and expressing hisself..someone seen the lineup and took the night off that was in the band..a shout out to Stevie Ray Vaughan to jump on stage and play that guitar like the legend he is..you with me?
SRV... Absolutly magnifico!!!
what a voice! great singer!
Sanborn's solo with The Pharoah on Thimbi is supreme. Transcendent!
This whole series, Night Music, shows the power of music and these guys cook.
I never use the word best but this is the best house band in the history of television.
Omar Hakim and Hiram Bullock...not too shabby.
Kind of an expanded version of the original Letterman band lineup. Yeah they were great!
100% agree

Night Music , was the perfect ending , to a perfect week, that started the next week perfectly !!!
Absolutely true. I’ve been searching for Night Tracks since it went off the air
It say a lot about American Audience
Not Appreciating REAL Music.....
@@RaiderClarke312 It's not the audience, it was the programmers that got it wrong.

A brilliant artist.
Saw his las tour with Jeff Beck@@Rob_Kates

Dude broke a bass string and kept on going to the next song. That's a pro.
Two of the best played Strats ever on one stage together. Music heaven.
Pharoah Sanders' The Creator has a Master Plan, has got to be one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever written.
Along with Thembi played here. Both from another spiritual dimension. Just takes you away from all the insanity of this world in the here and now.
SRV and Hiram Bullock, elbow to elbow. Awesome!
I worked at my college's jazz radio station back then and there was huge excitement over the Night Music show and its eclectic format. It was brief but amazing.
Pharoah Sanders! Truly a living legend!!
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pharaoh Sanders were like musical bookends to a show like this.
What a great show! And what an amazing performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan. It's a pity Night Music was so short-lived. It's not often you see such an eclectic selection of excellent musicians and diverse musical styles.
Oh come on! Pharoah Sanders plays music that's so beautiful it makes me cry . . .
When playing with Sanders, Sanborn gets out his trick bag and really plays.
Indeed. Amen.
If only there could be a show like this again....
5:28 Stevie Ray.. and he kills! Caught In The Crossfire. I love D.S.'s band here, man. They're diggin Stevie's groove and it's great to see.
Omar Hakim is really laying it down, too!
They did an exceptional job on Crossfire. Wow!
Amongst the many superlatives of this performance, big hand to Tom Barneyfor switching from hardcore electric bass to groovyness on the upright! Sweeet!!!
Wow this was a special night! So much talent on one place is very rare..... a spiritual experience of the highest order!
SRV, Omar and Hiram. Damn this is a dream lineup. Then sax legend Pharoah. How have I never seen this??
Yes Ray and Hiram together
How good is Omar Hakim. God almighty.
Showing why he became the go to guy as far as session drummers went at the time. Right up there with Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Perdie & Steve Gadd as the best in the buisness and heard he is nothing short of a great guy, all class.
Crossfire was certainly no problem for him. He was also exceptionally well recorded mixed here. It’s obviously (much) better than the album!
SENSATIONAL..Stevie Ray Vaughan ..legend..phenominal music
Stevie was the only man I ever heard who not only could cover Hendrix but even took it to another level. LEGEND
Awesome..Stevie Ray Vaughan can't be on no better show then this..action and attraction leads to distraction..All in the name of music..Stevie' strat is sounding out and the band is spontaneously good..What a great performance..I'm listening and its phenominal..
SRV soloing oer a Van Dyke Parks song/arrangement is not something I thought I would see tonight. Simply wonderful! Bring back Night Music lol
I like the nod to Lowell.
Hiram bullock was such a guitar beast.
Stevie Ray, Pharoah Sanders, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk in one network show?
We'll never see music of that diversity or quality on TV again.
Little Feat!
What a greatb great show. When real music m,attered
It doesn't get more spiritual than Roland and Pharrao . Van Dyke Parks is the cream.
My goodness what an incredible lineup! SRV commands that stage and lifts the entire band.
Can you imagine God Bless America being played on TV in 2019?
Lady Gaga performed it in 2017 at Super Bowl so I don't see that this is a problem.
SRV and the Night Music band - outrageous!
SRV side-by-side with Hiram Bullock, great stuff.
Miss this show. Watched it every Sunday night after the 11pm news. Best music show ever. Bring it back David!
O

Gdddddddd!!!!!
Stevie bust out Crossfire.. hairs on my arm stand up

Great show. Loved watching it every week. I often taped it, and still have the tapes.
that's eternal America land of unexpected dreams, so much love
They seriously should have had Pharoah and Stevie playing together.
Yes that would have been a fascinating musical synergy
MIss this show so much, needed now more than ever...great episode!
One year before. RIP Stevie.

9:33 Damn i wish i could break my G string jamming with stevie ray!!
That's what SHE said.
HA! Bassist broke string while slapping on Crossfire. Hiram looked like he was having a good time too playing with SRV.
Incredible ! Listenup music world and open up your commercial minds . . . . .
Hey..if this ain't rockin u dont know what rockin is..u with me..Stevie Ray Vaughan and this great band has it going on..sensational performance
Thank you Jools and all the people who made this show possible...
Shit some great musicians there
My God I loved this show so much. Thank you for posting these videos.
thank you maria .
Hiram could play next to all the Greats and be completely at home.
Must be the power of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Cheers
srv rips it up on the solo section after crossfire ,sweeet video
S R V ... wow and all the musicians
All of it...pure genius!
Go Stevie!!!
maybe SRV brought me here, apparently im falling into Night music. i really appreciate that you share these shows with the whole world. thanx so much.
What I loved about this program was that it really was all about the music. Evident, of course by the obviously unrehearsed and really awkward banter.
Great musical entertainment. Thanks.
Stevie Ray Vaughn a product of South Oak Cliff in Dallas Texas.
I fukcn love RUclips for reasons like this
Thank you so much for uploading!
What a treat
Thank you so much!
Such a Legendary video to upload thank you very much.well done👏
Damn ,thanks so much for posting this. A relatively slow episode of Night Music, but even a slow episode of this show was great. And SRV absolutely KILLING it.
Pharhora Sundars first song reminds me of The carton Of Charlie Brown
Good good the greatest singer on the planet Maria McKee is there and she's not mentioned in the intro

looks like one of Elayne boosler dates on Seinfeld
you really do need to put on your Sailin' Shoes.
Devastating!

During the break you can see a photo of John Coltrane

the performer list above didn't mention singer Maria McKee.
Was this ever released on tape or dvd? I recorded bits and pieces originally.

Osamau Katajima
@@kenselcer Thank you, maybe the uploader will eventually add this basic information to the video description above.
SRV IS ONE BAD MF!
was SRV wearing a keith haring shirt? rad
And is that Marcus Miller on the bass ?
Tom Barney is playing bass here, but I believe Marcus MIller was actually the MD on that show, at least for part of the time. Marcus rocks!
