You say that blood sugar peaks 30-60 minutes after the START of the meal, but for me (using continuous glucose monitor, also I have very low fasting insulin (2) and normal fasting blood glucose), my peak is more like 80 minutes AFTER finishing the meal, but it's not always the same. My blood glucose levels ALWAYS go down shortly after I start eating. I should point out that if I do eat carbs in a meal, it will always be at the end of the meal, and I eat fiber, fat and protein at the beginning of the meal, usually in that order, if practical. Also about 160, 180 or 200 being damaging, sure I believe that, but what about how long it takes to get back down to a more normal level? If you get down to, say, 120 within 30 minutes of peaking at 180 is that better or worse than staying at 150 for 3 hours? Finally, thank you for actually saying some numbers. Most doctors who talk about post prandial glucose spikes are really vague or talk in extreme/ideal cases.
@@tiangsae8482 I've only had my fasting insulin measured a couple of times. both times 1.8 microU/mL (range 1.7-10.4). When I was on high-dose prednisone it was much higher (8.0) but that is an effect of the drug. I walk a lot and usually eat two meals a day, doing 16:8 intermittent fasting. My fasting glucose also varies, as low as 75 (which is lower than ideal) and at other times in the 90s. I think HbA1c is a more useful number to look at, and I'm happy when mine is about 5.0, which it often is. It's rarely below that.
Nice video. What is a good blood sugar level when doing "glucose tolerance test" of 75 grams during 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes after quick consumption with fasting level as the starting point? Post meal sugar just jumps all over the place with different food, enough to drive you crazy. While my 2 hours post meal is in the 100-110 range, my 1 hour post meal can jump drastically .... Panda Express, Chick FilA, Yoshinoya over 200, while spaghetti with meatball (added 2 cloves of garlic) only 110 (must have missed the peak). When the blood sugar is high (my peak seem to be consistent at close to 1 hour), I do notice a very quick drop very soon.

Excellent advice. I never heard of the no change rule, but this makes sense. My own rule is to keep peaks at 1 hr at or below 100, which is basically no change. I do this on a strict carnivore diet, but it doesn't always work. For example, I ate fish and beef liver fried in butter and I went from 95 up to 115 , but the same meal on another day had no effect, stayed at 100. Most sources I studied say anything under 125 is safe, but I don't like going that high because who knows if it causes more damage to an already damaged body. Love these short videos, thank you.

The "no change rule" that your blood glucose doesn't go up after eating a meal is, in my experience, not realistic. Even by essentially eliminating all carbs, if you eat any protein (and you need to), it's going to go up by 10 points or so. And that means never eating any carbs. Is that really necessary? And by the "no change rule" even that is failure. It doesn't sound realistic or achievable.
Yes, I would have to agree also. There comes a point where it’s a bit ridiculous, and probably unachievable for dang near everyone. I recently started wearing a CGM and having blood sugar levels that don’t change isn’t happening. Personally, I would have to see the statements that this dr is saying be backed up with proof. So my blood sugar was at 274 today like 1 hour after eating. Is this normal? According to my doctor it’s normal as long as it goes down 2 hours after my meal but yet it’s still like 160-180 after 2 hours.
I have been checking at 1 hour post completion of the meal to compare with the level taken before meal preparation. Logistically, it could be difficult to shorten the time as my meal may last an hour from appetizer (salad) through desert. But I shall give it a whirl and take reading before I do the dishes and sweep-up the crumbs. Since the final bites of a meal, i.e., desert may be the most suspect, it could be only a few minutes post ingestion, thus any spike missed. Hmmmm.
What seems uncontested is that blood sugar rises after ingesting foods with embedded Carbohydrates... Then we have the type of carb ... Seems the branched form can shed glucose faster than the linear ( images of a candle burning at both ends, vs christmas tree on fire comes to mind), where the branched form leads to higher blood sugar peaks?? Is this correct? Then we might seek foods with less Amlyopectin and more Amylose? Agaoin, visually, if 100g of Amylose-heavy carbs were ingested one day and 100g of Amylopectin-heavy carbs the next, would we expect a lower peak blood glucose (and less insulin response) on day 1 than on day 2? Would we expect the second test to resolve faster (back to baseline) in healthy individuals with "normal insulin response", but persist longer in those in stages of insulin resistance? Asking for a friend. Thanks!
After banana and honey my blood sugar went up to 8.9 after 30 minutes, then after 60 minutes it returned to 4.7 which is the correct reading? Is this something to be concerned about?
So, are you saying that a 45 min peak of say 175 mg/dl after a carb heavy or sugary meal indicates diabetes/impaired glucose tolerance? Or are you simply saying that it isn't a healthy food to be eating.
What about a protein meal, even a whey protein shake? Won't amino acids, leucine in particular, also cause insulin to increase, if only half as much as glucose?
This is a perfect example of an "expert" telling the public at large, what rule applies to all people in a very general way! It's dumb, since there are so many variables to take into account! This guy should work for The WHO with their Vaccine Mandates for the Entire World!
Your videos are mostly quite good, but I'm not sure I'm connecting all the dots on this one. Your premise is a rapid return back to pre-meal levels. But you didn't discuss what the patient is actually doing while waiting for the measurement. Yes, if the patient just sits long enough without consuming food/drink the level will return to pre-meal. But what if the patient just patiently sits until the measurement? What happens to the blood sugar gained from the meal? It's not being stored nor is it being burned off so where does it go?
Yes, this is huge factor. I know my numbers are much better after meal when walking around the mall right after, which is normal for me. However, during Covid-19 stay at home, I am basically sitting around on the computer. Literally on the computer, before, after and during meals. I noticed I am getting some really concerning numbers like this.
What is the best way to measure blood glucose? Seems finger sticks are like.. 90% accurate.. some even worse. I'd been using two strips ( caretouch) and averaging.. Surprising the difference TBH. A CGM would seem ideal for tracking the curve and providing instant feedback to someone that really wanted to know, but these seem to be costly. For the cost of many Rx, though, relatively inexpensive.
But how can diabetics eat without a change in blood sugar? what should we eat then? Meals that only raise 20-30 mg/dL for normal people, can do 100-200 for diabetics
A diet consisting almost entirely of meat, eggs, some dairy if you wanted as long as it doesn't have any added sugar, and some very low carbohydrate vegetables. Fruits should really be avoided, but if you do choose to eat any fruit, then blueberries or blackberries would be the best options. So a ketogenic diet would be the best, or carnivore diet if you choose to eliminate all vegetables.
After being on keto and fasting 2 times last year my blood sugar seems to only climb to 115 - 120 30 to 45 minutes after eating some carbs and within 2 hours it’s down to 85ish so I think I’m good now, I think lol

Yep , I agree partly. Measuring BS should be with a reason. Actually, It's possible compare , with fueling your car. Yes, if your fuel tank is full there is no reason to fill it, and if you have so much BS in your vain , there is no reason to fill it even more. Sad to see this advice. Let us look logically. Basic body mechanism is built to handle carbs. Breaking up protein and fat for energy are alternative mechanisms for energy. Yes, protein are for building or replenishing tissues. However, body does not have any provision to store protein. Any excess protein gets broken down and will be used as sugar. Now, I am diabetic. That means my body cannot process carbs properly. Solution is obvious. Fix my body's carb processing capacity back. That has to be done with a high fibre, low fat and moderate protein diet. High fat and protein diet do not address your insulin resistance. With high fibre, low fat diet, you don't have to worry about your other parameters, such as lipids. I reversed by diabetes with the above diet. All my other parameters are well within the acceptable range. Check your insulin resistance with HOMA IR and Triglycerides - glucose- BMI index as well. Both should be within the range. Mine are 1.7/2.5 and 116. One is at the border, and the other is very good. HOMA IR values change fast, as insulin level in the blood change very quickly. So, the other index is more reliable.
My blood sugar drops after eating but not below 70mg. But it doesnt go up and i get all the symtoms of low blood sugar the weird thing is, i wont have to eat and after about an hour hour and a half it will go upp on it own. So after a meal it goes up fast and drops all in a 15 min window. Sometimes i dont even see it go up after eating it goes a little down. I am so lost on this because i wont have to drink candy or anything because it will go up a little on its own...
If this results from a non-carbohydrate containing meal, April, be sure to address all the factors that influence insulin sensitivity: vitamin D, fish oil, magnesium, iodine/thyroid optimization, bowel flora cultivation.

If you read CGM reviews you'll find that most of them are way less accurate than finger sticks.
After eating a large chocolate chip cookie my blood sugar went up to 151 at around thirty minutes after eating. Not touching a cookie for a long time.
It’s so interesting how the body spiked that insulin so quickly so your blood sugar could return to baseline
So cool !
Yes, with those numbers, you should have no concern with your blood sugar and you are metabolically healthy.
basically eat jz to live to maintain glucose level. But i have aunty now 90 years old diabetic patient. I don think she look into her glucose level critically
I panic if I get a blood sugar of 130 or more 30 minutes after I eat.
Mine was 10.9 straight after a meal. But then an hour later went down to 4?
Because of the meds I think
So what these people are telling us is just eat green veggies and tofu and stay under 100lb for the rest of your life
Nope. He’s saying eat meat and, if you must, some leafy veg.
Who mentioned tofu?
Yep , I agree partly. Measuring BS should be with a reason. Actually, It's possible compare , with fueling your car. Yes, if your fuel tank is full there is no reason to fill it, and if you have so much BS in your vain , there is no reason to fill it even more. Just use it and measure it again in couple hours, sometime 10 or 20 hours, and as soon you're on low level, don't be scared, body never go under, take some food without sugar or carbs and you'll be in good shape pretty soon forget about BS T2D or generally metabolic disease.
Different meals have different peaks.
Just found out I am #2
diabetic.... Dr in hospital (Dr Harry Davis Thomson Hospital in West Texas 50+ years in Medical)
said I can can use 1-2 packets of
Equal Sweetener?? Love coffee...Is that k? Thanks
Wow, what awful advice, Herb. The Sucralose in Equal has been found to alter bowel flora in ways that worsen insulin resistance, i.e., make your diabetes worse.
@@WilliamDavisMD Need advise...Any type of artificial sweetener at all ?
If so JUST or a (1) cup of coffee.... Please Help doc. (I got out of a week in the hospital two days ago) The wife & I are trying to learn what to do. )
I didnt even KNOW I was sick....They found me passed out at home on the 24th. ER said my Sugar jumped from 100...to 1500 Yea FIFTEEN hundred... I shouldnt BE here they said.
Thank you Sir
@@WilliamDavisMD Oh WOW!!!!
@@HerbWalker i have one cup a day, i use heavy cream and a little liquid splenda.
@@HerbWalker Are you still with us, Herb? That 1500 was a crazy #. What improvements have you made since?
With all these differing opinions from doctors and experts, it's hard to know who has the most reliable information.
My blood sugar was at 153. 2 minutes right after eating. is that normal?
While most primary care docs will say it is, it leads to many health problems, some irreversible, Vrve. See my Wheat Belly Blog post called "The Wheat Belly No Change Rule."
William Davis well after 2 hours it was below 140
Thank you I am prediabetic now. Struggling with high numbers in my blood. I am avoiding carbs, exercising but still high.
You need to try intermittent fasting. It really works
Check out Dr Berg on RUclips and get his blood sugar pills helps a lot
We can t live on walnuts and avacado
I eat lots of sugar full food. After 3 house my result was 6.4mmol is it normal
No!!!
6.4 is normal. But sugar is not good
Mine is peaking three hours later. Am I dying?
Thanks.
I never heard of check blood sugar 30 minutes from the start of the meal
I am newly diagnosed with T2D three month ago.
Today I found that my fasting sugar is the same as 2 hours from the start of the meal (I was told to measure this ), so I found your channel talking about checking blood sugar half hour from the first bite .
can you help me out here I am so confused by different information from different doctors.
The aim is fasting sugar and half hour after start the meal to be the same numbers if I understood correctly .
hope that you could say those numbers in the Canadian measures as well instead of the American only.
Thanks.
No change is Impossible
Idealistic.
I exercise and have sugars in 200s
my blood sugar continue to rise after 30 minutes it never gets above 110 - 115 but still if I take it at 30 minutes it will still be in the 90's
If this results from a non-carbohydrate containing meal, April, be sure to address all the factors that influence insulin sensitivity: vitamin D, fish oil, magnesium, iodine/thyroid optimization, bowel flora cultivation.
My fasting is 83 but after eating 2 hours 175 in pregnancy its harmful?
❤🎉
WOW My sugars were 390 2 hrs after I ate .
Visit a doctor, that's serious
LOW CARB FOREVER!!
So bloody confusing! You need a PHD in science …..😮
