I think the simplicity of this notation system is actually its strength and the reason why it works so well. It takes a couple of minutes at most to learn the symbols and from then on you can just look at them and regardless of your musical background, you'll get it. Another plus is that it makes playing music accessible to a much wider audience. This low learning curve to get the notation, is fantastic in my opinion! Music brings happiness, so anything that helps more people enjoy this sense of accomplishment and peace when playing their own music, the better. As a side-note: I do know how to read classic music notation as well & I actually like using this system. Much easier on the eyes. ;) And tbh the classic system tends to scare a lot of ppl and lets face it, it takes quite some more effort to learn. The system in this video not only makes learning more complex rhythms attainable for those without a classical background, but it is also a very user-friendly way to do it.

Fantastic method David. I have learnt to sight read the notation system just like I did musical notes for the piano. Just need more practice - and a handpan. :)

I just signed up with your lessons (Free), getting my Lark Handpan tonight, so excited! It was the Handpan for my budget so I hope I chose right. I will practice for a year and if I am decent get a better one next year (acolyte’s). What Handpan are you using in your video’s? Being a Professional I bet it is expensive. Thanks,

I've just recently purchased a cheap handpan from Amazon (Gladfresit; $217 on sale (incl. FREE shipping)) and been trying to play. And, to put it mildly, I'm doing FAB... no, not Fabulous... FAB; Frantic Ape Banging! So uncoordinated and banging on the Ding like my life depended on it! 🤣 Well, thanks to this video, I'm actually learning to PLAY my handpan, not just BANG on it. However, I noticed that I gravitate to using my right hand to start the 3-Dings, instead of my left, as you show it. And I'm trying to figure out WHY. I *can* use my left hand, to start the 3-Dings with, but it's an enormous mental hurdle to do it that way. Any idea why?

What is an accent? Hitting next to the note or just a loud version of a ghost note? Thank you.

hitting harder than a ghost note / a louder hit/strike

@@MasterTheHandpan What a purpose of ghost notes? Just keeping the rhythm? Shall they be not audible?
And what is the difference between a slap and an accent? Thank you.
I'm newbie to drumming theory, which is used in playing handpan. :)

Not buy on ebay, buy on shakti pan, shellopan, tympan handpan, metalsound, écho sound scultpture, baopan, or other, but not on ebay! It cost about 1000 2000 euros depends of makers and number of notes

Hey everyone! I'm new to this instrument and I'm learning this while literally moving my hand in the air because I can't yet afford a handpan. I've seen that there are tons of different types of pans but this one seems about right for me. Can someone please tell me the name of this particular pan? Thanks in advance!

I play a lot of different hand drums so I will normally copy written notation so I can play later one. I can't copy ghosts, etc. A simple notation can be used. I created my own to copy yours too. I use M for middle. G for ghost note and O for hit any note for instance. However, I do think your notation would be great for kids but how many kids play this type of instrument? I don't think too many do. Just my opinion.

Thanks for your message. My students without any musical background are so happy about this notation system, cause they are scared of the "normal music theory" and notations. Trust me there are a lot of kids. But as you said it's your opinion.
