Last story: OP did the right thing by hiring a lawyer and not signing the termination paperwork. I was in his position and I nailed them to a cross. I even got one of my bosses fired for suggesting that my last check with my previous employer would be held back, along with my W-2 papers, as that's a major violation of both US Wage and Hour laws, and Federal Tax laws (US law states that W-2's have to be postmarked before January 31, without fail), dummy better pray I get my W-2's accordingly.
In the last story, sounds like a manager that is just plain "Fire Happy." Looks for any excuse to fire someone just to feel powerful. I had a manager like that that wanted to fire a girl because her cancer returned and she was often drowsy due to her chemo sessions. I was his second in command, so to speak, and talked him down. Told him that it wouldn't look good on him to HR and it would more likely lead to he being the one to be fired.
Isn't there like something in every state A law now that people that assault anybody in the medical field is going to be charged with you know twice a heart of assault than a normal one? That's what I would have done I would have gone straight after she left to the grocery store and got the footage and charge her with assault.
I don't know about other states, but the one I live in, if you lay your hands on a medical professional in the performance of their duties, be it a doctor, nurse, EMT or veterinarian, and their assistants, that's a minimum 10 years in prison, and if it leads to a patient death, that's the same as murder 1, that's automatic life without parole.
In Canada, you can't medically detain people against their will unless they are a danger to themselves or others AND are refusing treatment. I used to be an ER doc, committing someone is no small thing. It's essentially a violation of their civil rights that is only considered legal because there are extenuating circumstances. Also, you need two doctor's opinions that they're certifiable. And the patient has to be reassessed within 72 hours.
Last Story: OP's boss well get fired as he didn't give OP notice of termination and my guess is he never contacted HR as from what OP said HR wasn't present during the meeting. When OP's now ex-boss's boss discovered what he has done as OP probably well file a wrongful termination suit against the company the CEO, Board of Directors, and HR well call him into a meeting to yell at him. Afterward they'll terminate him with cause as he terminated an employee that's being with the company for five years without notice which is very illegal in Canada and they'll rehire OP in the his ex boss's position.
The manager of that last story doesn't know two things. He doesn't know the company handbook or that the company is about to lose a ton of money. Part to the client and part to the person they fired. When you're a dumb manager, you have a tendency of stepping in piles of brown gooy stepp. That manager might want to up date their resume.
So his boss was ease dropping & looking over his shoulder to see what was o his personal phone? & stating that it’s unauthorized website on a his personal phone? To threaten to withhold a paycheck for hours worked and the berating & hollering . This has to be the dumbest boss in the world and if the owner finds out about the lawsuit bye bye to his job for a multi dollar screwup.
Vet tech story: At some point we need to be calling the police to have people trespassed at a minimum when they follow you to your actual place of employment. Snow story: Idiots! OP doesn't really describe that he's on poor terms with the neighbors, but it's kind of obvious in the story. But man, some people need to swallow their pride and not only ask for help, but offer to pay money for it as well if they actually want it. Fired story: That manager was incredibly stupid! He's going to cost his company a ton of money, not only from the client, but in legal fees as well. Wouldn't be surprised if it costs him his own job or at least a demotion and a transfer to somewhere where he can't influence anything.
The workplace social media on a private cellphone story, I'd be placing a recording device in open view, stating, "This conversation will be on the record," and hit Record. (I live just south of Canada in a 2 party consent state.) It should be noted that in most places it is ILLEGAL to withhold pay, even from a fired employee.
OP should have had a recorder going during that 'termination' meeting. It would have been a goldmine for OP's lawyer. And withholding the last check any longer than a pay period is a no no. And often there are steep penalties for do so. Often employers will hand it to you as you walk out the door so that it's a done with.
story 2 could have been so easy. neighbor: hey, I give you 50 bucks, can you clear out the snow on my side? done, and 50 bucks. but they did not only want it to be done, they expected it to be free.
Omg, is there is ever a future update to that last story I I begged plead that you give it to us I really want to know how that went and I really want to hear just how screwed that stupid boss who admitted in front of witnesses that he was going to go out of his way to screw with the Opie's final paycheck which is so illegal it's not even funny so I hope and pray like I said that we get another update on that at some point
The OP with the snow blower comes off a bit like the A-hole in his story. Unless he has a history of bad blood with his neighbors, what would it have hurt to use the snow blower on their side of the driveway, just enough to make things a little easier for them?
Why? They could've asked or actually helped! They didn't at all. They just expected him to do all the work because he has a machine that actually is hardwork too! I mean if they tried to help or even asked, then yeah I agree with you. But no they just went inside. ✌
💜🍰✌🎄you are first! I hope you are able to have a Merry Christmas this year. I know you may have a bit sadder one. Please know I am thinking of you. 💜 🎄✌

Generally speaking employers attempt to get the W-2's out by 01/31/year. They actually have until until, here in the US, 02/15/year. ❤

Story 1 : it amazes me that medical staff don't detain these people as psychiatric patients. And politicians.
Medical staff? They were a veterinary dumbass. You know work with ANIMALS only. DUH!!

Since the lawyer didn't suggest it, it's probably illegal.
