If you have 2 or 3 RELEVANT sites, its fine. As I mentioned with Link Whisper > Niche Pursuits. I don't over do it, but I own both sites and it makes sense to link to both every now and again. However, if you are building a PBN where the only linking you do is to game Google with a ton of sites, that's not a good idea. Big brands link to their own brands all the time.
Hello Spencer, The video is really informative. I have a question regarding internal linking. I was affected by Google's spam and core updates in October 2023 and March 2024. This resulted in the complete disappearance of my blog posts from Google SERPs, with about 70% of posts disappearing from the SERPs but remaining indexed in GSC with no errors. I did some research, and some SEOs mentioned that over-optimization of exact match anchor text internal links could be one of the reasons I was impacted by these updates. I personally wrote my articles, and I successfully survived the September HCU update. However, I was impacted after October 4-5, 2023, and again in March 2024. What do you think? Could overly optimized anchor text internal links be the reason for this algorithmic penalty? Or anything else.
Great questions. I definitely think anchor text over-optimization of EXTERNAL links pointing to your site would be a reason for penalty. I've never seen an internal links overoptimization penalty for sure (doesn't mean it isn't possible). You could always use Link Whisper to edit/change your anchor text quickly for any pages that appear to be over-optimized and see what happens. Its a pretty quick process with Link Whisper to get the full reports and see all the anchor text per article.

They are relatively new, a few months old. Yes, update your plugin. You must be on an old version.
i thought linking to your own sites was risky, as you could get penalized. i know a few ppl who were penalized for doing that.
