Back in 1974 I just got my plumbing license and the old timer I was working with had a large barn type of building full of fixtures and supplies from when he had his own business. I was doing a remodel in my in laws home and went there to see what I could find. He said check this out and uncovered a 39 Lincoln Zephyr. The thing looked brand new. He said he bought it new and that he would only bring it to car shows at that time. I never forgot that car because I thought a V-12 was pretty strange. Glad I stumbled onto this video, it brought back some nice memories.

In the middle fifties I was about 7 or 8 years old, riding around behind the seat (gobs of room) of my great grandma’s 39 Zepher. It was painted maroon. Thank you Edsel Ford.

One of the nicest and most special dash boards in automotive history. IMO. It is a terrible reality that these early car manufacturers changed their designs so quickly. It would have been great to have 10 million of cars like this in the world.

Beautiful car, but I can’t even imagine how difficult it is to get parts for these. I wonder what it went for in the end.

Ford should reissue the Zephyr with an enlarged V-12 engine. Pistons about 3” in diameter and an appropriate stick transmission with 4-5 speed and an appropriate rear end for the power output. Keep the unique distributor but update efficiency and cooling so no overheating. Also include overdrive and load with present day accessories that are practical.

Actually the Lincoln V12 was a dated design by then...but it was made thru. 1948 ! As was the front suspension .

I believe that's the same engine Lincoln continued to make for another 10 years.

Absolutely stunning! I wonder why, when replacing some of the floor pan (obvious, with the new bolts) - they didn't even TRY to cut the bolts down to size and perhaps paint them black? For a car of this rarity - that sort of thing is inexcusable. I note that there is a new gas tank...perhaps the reason the gas gauge doesn't seem to work, is that the sender was not replaced? Also, who would replace the floor in the trunk with unpainted plywood (under the rug?) Surely the car would be worth that 'extra step' to at least paint the panel? Finally, that orange 'Lincoln Zephyr' script at the back of the trunk...wow...really? Bottom line? I'd LOVE to own this!! (by the way, the clutch 'throw-out' bearing is likely the cause of the noise when shifting) I had a 38 Ford business coupe and that's what the noise sounds like to me...

1939 was the first year an American car had flared opat the bottom doors to cover the running boards betwee the tires. The Zephyr was the first one if I am not mistaken.

Did you install a larger radiator? These were subject to overheating problems. Easy fix though.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-((((((//
