READ ME!!! This is a quick advice video to help in getting a turtle to eat if he will not eat his food, or a new turtle that won't start eating.
The best enticing foods I find for turtles are Earth Worms, Meal Worms, Canned River Shrimp for Turtles, Live Crickets and any other live bait suitable for Aquatic turtles.
To find earth worms in the garden, find a damp shady spot of soil close to the evening time (if it is very very dry, soak a little with water 10 minutes or so before) and dig around six inches down. The worms are usually found in the clumps of earth you dig up.
PLEASE make sure the area you are getting the worms are free from poisons, chemicals and pesticides as these can be seriously harmful for your turtle.
Meal worms, canned shrimp and live crickets and bait, can be found at most pet stores and are extremely affordable.
If after a few days of trying these tips, and he is kept in a suitable environment, he still refuses to eat, he may need to see a veterinarian as there may be an underlying health concern.

my baby turtles are refusing to eat pellets and will only eat shrimp. I'm not really sure exactly how healthy shrimp are for them but it's all they will touch
+Rebecca Reynolds I find dipping other foods in the shrimp juice and only offering that for a week or so instead of any shrimp should get the hungry enough to try something new. Foods like shrimp and pellets should only be given to a turtle every two to three days and the portion size the size of the turtles head not including the neck as it has a lot of protein in it and can cause pyramidding and rapid growth. You can offer veggies like red or green leaf lettuce every day also. It will take a while for the turtle to start eating greens but they will eventually with patience and perseverance. Hope this helps. :)
+didimitten well the shrimp are vary small and dried. like jerky shrimp especially for turtles. tgey can eat them just fine size wise. Imma try greens on them and stuff and hopefully they will eat something else

Well, my turtle won't eat ANYTHING. I've tried so much. We've put her in a tank of over 100 Gold Fish at a Pet store. (They let us) We've been trying to feed her pellets, and she won't eat those. We've tried worms in and out of water and still won't eat them! We took her to the vet and he said she was okay. I don't know what to do, she's going to die soon. I know this because we can tell she's getting weak. Please help!

Hi, new sub here. I just rescued a young Eastern painter with a 10 g tank, nothing else. I'm used to fish and aquariums so I thought he'd be perfect in my freshwater tank collection. He doesn't really want to eat anything, eg. Turtle food, fresh fruits n veg, lil shrimp food. So tomorrow I'm gonna go crazy fixing up his home to make him as comfortable as possible. A year ago my turtle didn't eat for almost a year. It scared me so much! But soon he started eating chicken and fresh worms, then started eating different pellets. I know use Fluckers buffet blend, it is a mix of dried meal worms, and shrimp also two kinds of pellets. I REALLY recommend getting it so that this doesn't happen, this is all that I'v been feeding him and he LOVES it!!!

Keep trying. You can try canned shrimp for turtles, worms as long as they are wiggling and always have veggies available. Hope this helps.
I have had my little nard for a while and recently for some reason he just stopped eating, he wouldnt even eat his favorite shrimp anymore i was so scared! thank you so much for making this video because i never thought of worms and after not eating for over a week he went wild on the earth worm!! Mine was the same way when I got him. I would trick mine when he would beg for food. I would give him something he really liked, and when he begged for more, I'd drop him a pellet and he would eat it by mistake.After a while of doing that he became used to the pellets. You can also soak the pellets in the juices some of his treats might come in and that can also trick him. It can take time but I persevered with my turtle and he eventually gave in.Hope this helps and let me know how you do!
Glad you liked the advice. He is in the bathtub. He was due to move out to his new tank last month but I am building the tank into a bathroom closet for convenience and I ran into a tank stand problem lol so he is still in the tub. Don't mind too much as the tub still looks the same and it is so easy to keep clean. Wish all tanks came with a faucet and drainage lol.

Thank u so much for posting this. My slider had not eaten for two weeks!! He has a bit of shell rot and I think that’s why. I went and dug up some worms and he ate them right up!!! Thank u so much!!
I have a Red Eared Slider and he goes through a cycle of maybe two or three times a year when he only wants live food. Typically, live fish or shrimp. One could buy feeder guppies or platies at your local pet store. Fortunately, I raise guppies and always have more than enough to spare. He really enjoys the live fish. The cycles don’t last very long and he goes back to eating his pellets with no issues. I think it boils down to variety. They like to be fed different things and simply just get tired of the same thing every day just like we do. ☺️
I noticed that your turtle is in a bath tub and that must be making it incredibly easy to change the water or even do without filtartion.
My turtles are just 3 months and so small and I could do the same with the baby bath tubs available.

Bruhhhhh turtle being dry is normal its what they do its called basking so basically they are absorbing the suns heat to get calcium and other nutrients

You can do the same as this video. Make sure the water is very clean and also that the turtle has somewhere try and warm to get out of the water and bask. I hope everything works out well for your little turtle. :)
They live of sledge forna while. Mine didnt eat and the vet told me why...he greedy as hell now.
You'll want to be careful because earthworms could end up consuming dirt that has pesticides or dirt that recently had acid rain and your turtle can get impaction and can either get really sick and/or die. this is why it's a good idea to buy worms from fish stores
I also like frozen thawed silver side minnows. All 3 of my turtles love to eat fish. Live Rosie minnows work too. Just another feeding tip. Also u can hand feed them silver sides just wiggle them at the top of the water that attracts them + the fishy order is every enticing.

Just keep veggies available. I find green leaf lettuce the easiest to give them and water anicharis plants you can get from pet stores but they can be expensive and turtles tear them up. 2 times a day is too much. For a baby, a small amount of protein based food every day should be OK when he is really small. Veggies can be eaten as much as the turtle likes.

Hi. If the baby turtle is seeming lethargic, he may be sick. You could try earthworms and also see if he will eat some green, like red or green leaf lettuce or a piece of carrot so see if he will try veggies also. If he refuses the earth worms and still seems lethargic and all of the conditions are OK such as water quality, temperature and basking area he may need to go to a veterinarian. Good luck!

If the water temperature is falling below 75 degrees you will need a heater as you do not want the turtle to hibernate as it is dangerous for a captive turtle to do so without specialized care.
This worked for my yellow belled slider I have feed her little tad poles,earth worms,and minnows/guppies this is a really good variety diet for the turtle

Hello Everyone, I have gone through this, my turtle was not eating and it did not eat for 50-55 days, we tried all the means but it did not eat, But now it automatically started eating...we don't have to panic....it will start eating please don't force it in any way. My very small painted box turtles did not eat for 3 months before finally eating a dried omnivore mix. I tried EVERYTHING before that. I honestly thought they wouldn't make it. So for you people worried about it persistence is key.
moving worms has always worked for me, my turtles didnt want anything to do with pellets or any other canned turtle food until they are like a year old
another good piece of advice is make sure its not a worm that is too big, i always fed my turtles night crawlers, they usually grab it and shred it into pieces big enough to eat, well one of my painted turtles that was about 3 inches long decided to try and swallow a nightcrawler whole. got it about 95% down and started freaking out running swimming into things really fast. completely my fault but glad i was watching and i just pulled it out of his mouth

I've had my turtle for 4 days now and I can't get him to eat. He was found walking through a field about a week ago by a friend. They tried to figure out who he belonged too but after them searching for a few days. I acquired him. They told me he wouldn't eat the whole time they had him either. I went out and spent almost 200$ to get his aquarium set up. He has all his necessities also has 5 goldfish in there with him. He is about 6 inches long his she'll is a little bumpy near his head and his skin under his she'll has been flaking. I've tried to give him pellets, worms carrots and green leaf lettuce. He still refuses to eat. He doesn't try to bite. Ugh what else can I try??
Melinda Guy Hopefully he is doing better now. Turtles can just be very shy at first and can take a while to start eating when in a new place.
i just went through a huge scare i started crying because i thought i had killed my turtle because he had drowned but i pressed his shell cause hes a baby and his shell is soft his feet started moving and then his head i kept him out of the water for a wile and he was okay i put him back in the water just now and he is doing great thanks to my prayer to god thank you
I also make sure he eats it so when he goes back in the water he doesn't spit it out sometimes I also tap his nose with my finger then drop a pellet in when his mouth is open
if your turtle isnt eating pellets or fish, your best bet is to actually feed them peas and carrots. finely chopped or buy them frozen. thaw it out and they will eat it. the aroma attracts them and causes them to eat plenty. do this so they also trust you. i have 3 turtles and my little map turtle didnt eat until i gave him peas. now he eats pellets, guppies, and ghost shrimp. this took me a few weeks to accomplish but now they see me and arent as shy anymore.

The moment you get a turtle, keep them right under UV light in basking area & shallow water where they can keep their face out & body in water. Put some food in that same tank. After a couple of hours soaked in the light, they will start eating! Reason for not eating - Retailers keep them in water with no heater or light which stresses out turtle & they get sick!

Gold spots do sound like the coloring of the shell. My red eared slider has gold, brown/green and black spots and lines. White or fleshy pink spots are however something to worry about.
I found my painted turtle the other day I was on a tow call towing a car in Gary Indiana and I saved him from being ran over, I have him in a 50 gallon tank by himself but he is not currently eating I’m gonna try this to see if it works...

I know that's not very healthy, but my turtle is a brat and will not try anything else. I'll try finding worms in the yard and see if he eats those. I havent tried those yet. Thanks again!
Turtles can take take up to a few months to get used to being handled but they do eventually get there with patience and loving care, The white fungi spots sound like shell rot which can be brought on by a few things. If you look at my channel and view recent videos, I have a video on shell health with some information about shell rot so maybe you can see by the video, if it is indeed shell rot. You are doing the right thing trying not to stress him, he will eventually warm to you.
My red-eared slider won't eat anything for days now...he looks healthy, but I gave him earth worms, night crawlers, turtle food, etc. He won't eat any of it...he is still a baby.
Where did you get you basking platform? My 1yr old little girl is on her 1st shed, refusing to eat and not basking much. 😔 My girl loves her sun! She has over grown her basking rock and I'm in the market for a new one and my girl is about the same size as yours in the video! She is so cute btw!!! I'm gonna try some earth worms for her today! Sounds like the turtle is just scared which is normal for a new turtle. To clean the tank, just take her out gently and place her in a box in a quiet place until you are through cleaning the tank and then put her back. It will a lot less stressful for her.

I don't think I used cork bark in one of my videos ( I am not sure what that is lol) but the cuttlebone is the same for birds and turtles. I leave a big piece floating in the tank and the turtle will nibble bits off when he wants some.

my turtles don't eat pellets but they eat fish and and this plant I grind up the pellets and sprinkle some in the water so they can at least inhale it

I am sure those are OK too. As long as they are not poisonous, are are just a regular earth worm, they will be fine.

They also need to be handled picked up and talk to them so they know who u r and you should always feed them by hand when they are babies so they can get to know the hand and person that feeds them
My turtle was eating fine she's about five to six inches long and about 4 inches in width k the problem is she was fine until I fed her live baby fish for about two days now is been a 4 days and she won't take pellets ,lettuce, or dry worms... I can't keep feeding her just fish and here in NY is hard to find worms I want her to eat her turtle food please help what to do she only eats live things.....

We bought him wardley reptile sticks for his main food in case that helps
