Charles Burney visited Wagenseil in Vienna when the latter was already quite infirm. But he received Burney warmly and talked about passionately about Handel, whom he regarded very highly, and entertained Burney by playing harpsichord. Burney counted Wagenseil as one of the most distinguished and celebrated Viennese composers, along with Hasse, Gluck, Gasman, Salieri, Hofman, Haydn, Ditters, Vanhall and Huber.
