In 1719 at the marriage of the royal prince of Poland, several Italian operas were performed in Dresden. Lotti, the famous Venetian maestro di cappella, was one of the most celebrated musicians who were invited. These were the first Italian operas Quantz heard and they gave him a very favourable impression of genuine Italian music. ( Source : Dr. Burney's Musical Tours in Europe Volume Ⅱ )

This is a gorgeous Mass by Lotti , an Italian composer whose music was renowned throughout Europe according to Charles Burney. Being an enthusiast of High Baroque music he was certainly on a par with Vivaldi and Albinoni. Lotti’s music reached JS Bach and Handel ❤it Pau I have a number of Lotti’s music on disc including this splendid Mass it is music of the Heavens.

Thank you for this divine music post. In 1709 in Prague, Zelenka served Baron von Johann Hubert von Hartig before his appointment as a violone player in Dresden's royal orchestra. Baron von Hartig was a well-known connoisseur of music and a virtuoso musician. He corresponded with many important Italian composers, and amassed a great music library which Zelenka would later have access to, notably including Antonio Lotti's "Missa Sapientiae". Zelenka copied this work from Hartig's collection around 1729, and 1730s Johann Sebastian Bach, Handel's, they acquired a copy of it from Zelenka's.
