Moved to Alicante Sept 2020. My monthly cost of living had increased by about 15-18% since then. My house is paid off and I spend approx €900 per month...includes everything, food, electricity, water, health, dental, mobile phone, Internet, petrol etc etc. If I eat or drink out that figure is higher.

@ yes my friend, inflation is increasing cost of living all over Europe not just Spain. Don't know if you know this but the EU in Brussels are putting pressure on Spanish Govt. now to start taxing alcohol. That would be a shame. I know many people looking to go to Cyprus and Greece now, even Portugal for more affordable way of life. But you can still buy property here very cheap even close to sea (Torrevieja near me for example). Spain is so cheap.. but you probably didn't have to pay anything for healthcare. The US is ridiculous. 1st because of the price, 2nd because the doctors are your enemy, 3rd because the food is poisoned. Spain has wonderful food in most places, if you get to Spain and try to look for food, your not going to find it, you have to have someone show you. I am not going to eat Spanish food in general but you have so many different spaniards, that you can eat lamb chops, sardines, squid, anchovies. You can even buy the can sardines. Eating out is just what people do, but your not going to get healthy food some times. They want to make it taste good and want you to get addicted like anywhere.

The car will need to have a ITV (MOT) check every year if over 10 years old. Rental cars at the moment are very costly now, wish you luck.
Well ..It depends on the cops... Everyrime you come to Spain yournew british passport must be stamped .. Police in Spain will check every third country passport in order to know how long have you been here , how long will you state .. They can ask you questions like if you were an illegal inmigrant so you must be sure what to do. Expats do not exist anymore in Spain .. We call now inmigrants after putting the cross in the wrong box.

I have lived in Spain for over twenty years, during that time I've endured two financial collapses, the one in 2008 and the preset one. The 2008 banking debacle was over relatively quickly in terms of the exchange rate recovery, a very important consideration when living off UK generated pension/s...However the present problems caused initially by Brexit is far more problematic, the exchange rate plummeted the day after the referendum..... (A vote that myself and many other brit immigrants were denied because of the 15 year rule )... in 6 years struggles to record 1.20€... The day preceding the referendum the euro was 1.38-40€....Everything in Spain is now more expensive due to the worldwide economic downturn. having said that its still cheaper to live in Spain.....its just not quite as cheap as it once was!!..As for the problems facing those wishing to move...Spain has always had rules and regulations regarding those who wish to live here..ie: Residencia, Car, driving licences, tax etc! Its just that many Brits chose to live ''under the radar'' blissfully ignoring the rules.....many returned to UK to vote Brexit ( Turkeys voting for Christmas )believing it wouldn't effect them ...well it didn't it, plus it effected the everybody else regardless...

Of course Spanish shouldn't be expected to speak English in their own country. Immigrants are expected to learn the language and integrate, same as British want resident immigrants to the UK to do Keep in mind that the poster's situation is completely different to that of post Brexit British immigrants to Spain. You need to prove that you won't be a burden to the country and pay your taxes in Spain Resident immigrants from 3rd countries do not have freedom of movement, only residency in their host country.

The minimum savings/income non-EU couple need to show just to get a Spanish visa around €33k year 1 and double that for year 2. If that's difficult Portugal only requires around €12k per year. Another consideration, in UK we pay over €2900 in council tax per year band D inland. In Murcia/Almeria inland for equivalent/bigger home its in the ball park of €600, plus in the South our home worth almost double what we'd need to spend in Spain. Shaun has been a great find, thank you buddy.

@ yes, a lot of the cheaper options won't last very long and I don't talk about how efficient panels may be after 20 or 30 years (80%+ of the initial), but about the fact that, with crazy heat and such, they would probably break before ROI is reached. It seems easy but it's complex. In Italy the ROI is usually 8/10 years, at least nowadays.

Top Man Andy, many thanks for watching - hopefully see you this Friday :)
Please can anyone inform me,
Did want to live in Spain but now I have to pass a Spanish driving test, to old for this plus if I brought country house it’s a gamble if I pass So…
If I buy a country villa to visit several times a year could I buy a Spanish car and drive it like a tourist visiting for 10 days or so? Rental cars for 5 visits a year costly any ideas please
Tom
Good question, there are many people here in Spain with holiday homes and have Spanish cars but I personally don’t know any so better ask at the Spanish consulate when applying for a visa. The car will need to have a ITV (MOT) check every year if over 10 years old. Rental cars at the moment are very costly now, wish you luck.
@ thanks for the reply, just trying to work out what’s best for both of us, finished work and winter was very long. Love your videos
What? You can't live in Spain unless you have a driver's license?
Hi Shaun, thanks for the information. I’m just wondering is that one thousand pound a month for 2 people? Do you think around 900 euro a month would generally be enough for a single person with a fair bit of savings put by also and your own place bought and paid for?
Hi Peter, yes that is for the both of us. I think 900 euro's should be okay for one person depending your a EU citizen. Like I said, it's all about your life style. Many thanks for watching. I do a Live Show every month, next one is thew 24th March 9.30pm Spanish time for a hour, most welcome to ask questions. Many thanks for watching :)
That's exactly what I live on in south of Alicante region with house paid off. I rarely eat or drink out tho which would add extra.
Thanks Shaun. Appreciate the really helpful information 👍🏼
Thank you, glad you found it helpful. Many thanks for watching :)
Good information for people who do not live in Spain 🇪🇸
Top Man Barry, always interesting to know about costs. Many thanks for watching :)
Uk now 250+ only for electricity
Many thanks for your comment 👍
Hey Shaun , great video. Could you create a spreadsheet of all the costs to share. Obviously not any personal info just general numbers which we can total up to act as a guide. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Do your own spreadsheet. He’s just given you all the numbers.
Hi Yogi, I've giving all the figures on the video so you can see while I'm chatting. When I made this video, the cost of oil was just going up so I may be making another one in a month or so as it's starting to double now and that will have a knock on effect on everything else. Many thanks for watching :)
Many thanks for your comment Brian, since Brexit, many things have changed for us Brits living outside the EU now, thankfully I came before the Brexit. Interesting times ahead.
Hi Shaun,
Thinking of retiring there soon,
Will be able to buy a house and car.
Would a pension of about 2K euro, a month keep a couple afloat, with no rent to pay etc ?
Many thanks in advance
Hi, renting is a good idea when thinking of moving and living in Spain. 2K should be plenty, depending on your lifestyle. Many thanks for watching and wish you luck on your new life 👍🇪🇸
@ thanks Shaun,
Your info is invaluable to us, many thanks for all your help.

Hi Sean.
Great information. There are great bargains over here in Spain but you can definitely see the prices rise over the last week. We need to look into health insurance. Thanks for another great vlog. 👍
Cheers guys, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes the cost of fuel is rising to over 2 euros in some places! Many thanks for watching :)
El precio de la luz ha subido muchísimo y por eso es mejor calentarse con gas butano
The price of electricity has risen a lot and that is why it is better to heat yourself with butane gas - Muchas gracias por tu comentario Andres :)
u are working i presume/ so u pay tax etc thanks
I'm a pensioner and don't work but I'm still paying taxes here.
Interesting stuff 👍
Thank you Julie, many thanks for watching :)
Much appreciated Shaun,very helpful.
I’m coming over in April and May to start looking in Bolneuvo and Mazarron, how are the the property looking, any idea this year so far ?
Many thanks
Top man 👍👍
Top Man Vodka Dave, plenty of new builds about and plenty of property to check out. Good luck in your search for a new life. Many thanks for watching :)
You certainly have the experience of knowing the costs there Shaun. Good video sharing the potential expenses mate 👍🙏
Thank you Adrian, not the best thing to talk about but something people ask a lot. Many thanks for watching :)
Of course Spanish shouldn't be expected to speak English in their own country. Immigrants are expected to learn the language and integrate, same as British want resident immigrants to the UK to do Keep in mind that the poster's situation is completely different to that of post Brexit British immigrants to Spain. You need to prove that you won't be a burden to the country and pay your taxes in Spain
Resident immigrants from 3rd countries do not have freedom of movement, only residency in their host country.
Many thanks for your comment and thanks for watching :)
Freedom of movement personas mercancías y servicios
Muchas gracias por ver a Andrés :)
Nice one me old mucker 🍾
Many thanks Brian and thanks for watching :)
Great vlog Shaun, live to see you do some restaurant vlogs, especially menu del dia at a Chinese.
Thank you Keith, I did do a short video at Yaho in the Port but will try to do a longer one on what's to offer. Many thanks for watching :)
Always found Chinese food in Spain to be dreadful !!!
@@tomfitz7431 Menu del dia, 3 course's, including a bottle of wine, 7 50 euros each and free brandy, schnapps etc with the bill!
@@keithjames2450 mmmm but all the ones in Barcelona have awful food... tasteless bloop !!

So, how much for 2 people monthly, in a place like yours? What city are you in?
Hi, I don't live in a city, a town called Mazarron. Over £1,000 per month for the both of us. Many thanks for watching :)
What are the monthly costs for a family with 2 children Carmen?
I like your channel my friend. I am in my 50s and I think slowly to settle in Spain… Unfortunately I don’t speak Spanish and I can’t embrace moving to a different country without knowing the language…
Glad you enjoy my videos and many thanks for watching them :)
Very informative especially for me & my wife as we are moving to Costa Calida ( LA ) hopefully in sept - Oct when our villa is completed 😀
Good luck with the move Richard and I'm sure the weather in Sept - Oct will be still lovely and hot. Many thanks for watching :)
Thank you 🙏
The minimum savings/income non-EU couple need to show just to get a Spanish visa around €33k year 1 and double that for year 2.
Many thanks for your comment and information - it helps everybody. Many thanks for watching :)
Hi! I’m a student thinking about doing university in Spain. Mostly for the experience I wouldn’t move there just yet long term probably until retirement. However I think about 3 years would be perfect for me. I’d like your honest opinion about moving to Spain. I’d like to study midwifery preferably but if not that’s fine. Is it hard getting a job? Are the tax’s hard to pay? are people welcoming? Currently living in England and really thinking about it! :)
@@lunaalexandra_ Hi Luna, if you hold a UK passport then you're outside the EU which will make life much harder. You may be able to apply for a student visa but better to ask the Spanish consulate as they can advise more than me. Work is hard here, lower wages and if you don't speak Spanish, even worse. One thing I can say, the Spanish are very welcoming here. I wish you luck.
@ hi thank you for replying so quickly. I have a Portuguese passport as I’m Portuguese but moved to England when I was 6. I’ve heard that doing university in Spain is cheaper but the education isn’t that good. However I want to do it for the experience.
@@lunaalexandra_ go and do it Luna, enjoy life :)
This will give you some idea about monthly costs for living in Spain for a retired couple :)

Did you say total
Please explain more
Not any cheaper than the UK!
Very true John, many thanks for watching 👍🇪🇸
You don't see solar panels in Spain where you live simply because "normal" people simply cannot afford them.
Very true but why so expensive when they could flood the market with panels unless they are no good :)

Buena tarde Shaun. Or good afternoon 😂 Great video as always. As you know already we’ve a holiday home in Sucina near Mike & Yvonne between the lakes. Fantastic RUclips channel 🤩 We’ve not been too our home since 2019 but hopefully we can get out in the 11th June and hopefully we can have a ride to see you both for a coffee ☕️ Hopefully the war in the Ukrainian 🇺🇦 will have ceased by then and some sort of normality can resume 🙄 God bless all those people. We have a bank account with Cajamar and have no charges I think 🤔 We also use currency exchange. Very good 👍🏻 We’ve now bought a new house in the U.K. instead of investing in our Spanish home 🏡 because of Brexit 🙁 We’ll just keep it as a holiday home and a rental home instead 🙄 And in two years when we retire, if things don’t change with the 90 day rule we’ll sell up which is sad 😞 Take care cheers Stevie 😎🏴
Many thanks for your comment Steve and look forward to meeting you both one day for coffee. Hopefully Spain will change the 90 day rule as I already know a few people who are selling their holiday homes because of the 90 day rule plus some of the Resorts have had their golf courses shut down because of the Covid and lack of visitors. Many thanks for watching and keep safe :)
Have your pension paid direct to your spainish bank account I have money left over every month from uk pension after bills it comes from usa from dwp .you are wasting money with poor advice .
Many thanks for your comment.
Great video, very informative, thanks. I'm still waiting for that pool care video 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Top Lady Hayley, I'm trying to catch Steve when next cleans his pool! It's going to happen this year!!!! Glad you enjoyed the video. Many thanks for watching :)
