Not gonna lie this video hits close to home than no other. Domo satisfied a lot of my tastes that I would gravitate to when I became older. Domo, Coraline, The Neverhood, Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run made me fall in love with stop motion. I also love Domo's chilled back take on slice of life, because of that very re-watchable and easy to get sucked into their little world. There's only one other series that scratches that itch and that's Joe Pera Talks to You. It's not animated but it has that "feels like it's own universe" vibe to it that I believe if you like Domo you'll like that. Domo really did come out at the right time. It very much captures going outside and going on non high stakes adventures that I love doing now that I'm older. God bless Domo.
Watching this documentary, I remembered the hype surrounding this mascot back in around 2009 but sort of stuck around a little more in 2010. I didn't know what was the big deal at that time but before this, Domo just faded from my memory. Now this is a pretty insightful video and it's pretty awesome that the studio made many other great stop-motion animations. Guess their style seemed familiar elsewhere. Thank you for putting this together. This one deserves more attention, really!
As a kid i'd see Domo-kun on TV all the time, had no idea who this weird sharp teethed thing was but hell I loved him, I genuinely forgot about him over the years as he mysteriously faded into obscurity during the middle 2010s... Honestly grateful for finding your video, now I'm getting these nostalgic memories of Domo-kun, might find some adverts of him that have been uploaded to youtube! You've gained yourself a sub, keep up the hard work Jack!
I was born in 2003. Like any other pre-2010 fad I caught domo at the very tail end of his popularity and couldn't really understand what it was since I was so young. I always love these types of videos for it. Cause even though it's just a tiny fraction of the experience, I can see what it was like in the time I _just_ barely missed out on. Thank you for this ❤
I LOVE DOMO KUN!!!! I first discovered that little guy when growing up in new york in the late 2000s-early 2010s. after winning a prize of him at a fair a couple hours away from my hometown, loved him ever since. I wish i still had that plush, we moved often so i no longer have it! I do have a new one though :D
This character is very weird for me because I remember knowing about the character enough to call it Domo, but I don’t remember where I first saw the character.
I didn't expect you'd mention I-Mockery and their flash game. It's through their website I first got introduced to Domo-kun, but I always thought it was a too indirect and obscure way to learn about the character. Turns out it was quite the popular website.
Hooks me in with a premise of one of the long lost best part of early 2000's internet and proceeds to go into a deep dive on the rabbit hole of Jp stop motion. My dude you dropped this 👑 Thanks for the nostalgia and rabbit hole! I've still got the Ghostbuster and Stay Puff DOMO-funko on my shelf staring at me :D
To this day I still have my Domo Kun plushie from 2007! I had a phone cover and a crossbag but I lost them when I moved to my recent house 😭 another anecdote I have is that in 5th grade at 10 years old I became a business child by making Domo keychains with felt and selling them on school, I made them with customized colors that people requested, such an entrepreneur hahaha
I love it when videos like this pop up on my feed. Well written and edited breakdowns of topics I’m interested in. I loved Domo when I was high school. I watched animated shorts on Cartoon Network and still have the plush. Crazy thing is I also love Rilakkuma and Kaoru and never would’ve guessed it was made by the same studio. Thanks for the video!
I recently bought a Domo plush two weeks ago. I went back for another one. My favorite anime store took it out of their storage unit and said they had to get rid of dead stock. My plushes are from 2009-2010. What a crazy coincidence to have this video pop up as well. Crossing my fingers for a comeback
my dad has always LOVED domo. he has a domo plush ziptied to the front of his mini van. i remember when i was younger he would always talk about “uncle domo” and “dr domo”, i really could not tell you why 😭 and no one i knew seemed to know who he was so it’s cool to see this
i was a bit young to be into meme/internet culture in 2010 or 09, but i still remember domo-kun and how ubiquitous he was at one point... it's so cool to have a broader history of what he is and especially what dwarf studios have done since! that's gotta be my favorite part of this video, though it's always good! + yuzuru hanyu appearance during the figure skating clips
I learned about domo when I was a little kid and someone gave me a phone charm with the goofy lil fella on it. Had it on my DSi for the longest time. Never even knew what domo was, but I kinda became a little obsessed with him.
I can’t believe I had forgotten about domo-kun! I used to be so obsessed!!! How did I manage to forget all about him?! I feel so bad for forgetting about domo-kun 😢
Ahh wow, this video was really well-researched and presented and left me with such a nice fuzzy feeling, just like the Domo-kun shorts always did. I remember seeing him as a meme before happening to catch one of the Nickelodeon shorts, and I thought it was so cute that I went and found them all online. He's truly shaped like a friend. I have so much love for the craft of stop-motion and it's so cool to put a face to the artists behind it all. Your taste in music also really kept my interest haha, thank you so much for the tracklist, I absolutely need to go save that remix of Aruarian Dance *_*
Thank you for making this, I've always wondered where our guy came from and where did he go. And to finally have a deep dive into not only domo, but the world around him and the people who made him is wonderful. Thank you
DUDE I LITERALLY SAW A DOODLE ON PINTEREST THAT KIND OF REMINDED ME OF THIS BUT I COULDNT REMEMBER HIS NAME AND I SCOWERED THE INTERNET FOR HIM AND I FOUND HIM DOMO OH MY GOD NEW MEMORY UNLOCKED
I grew up watching domo and absolutely loved him, I even made a piñata of him for an art class and wouldn't allow anyone to break it when the time came. Couldn't stop crying during the duration of this whole video, I miss him
i remember Domo-kun really well due to the stop motion series of shorts(adventures with domo)airing on i think Teletoon or YTV as in-betweens from commericials and tv shows here in Canada(tho i don't remember the specific channel), my older sisters liked Domo and i remember them wanting a figure or two(since they collected Skelanimal figures at the time or any pop art vinyls). even after they moved, i still remembered Domo airing as late as 2014 but not as frequently(i would've been around 10). still, this is a fantastic video. keep up the awesome work!!
As a fellow Canadian, I would say Domo was airing on YTV at the time. It's because all the Nickelodeon stuff was on that channel for a very long time. Don't know how it is now but that would be my best guest.
I remember seeing this lil guy everywhere as a child, but i never really thought where he came from! This is such a nice watch and pretty informative!!! 💜✨
i loved this video. i remember seeing domo EVERYWHERE when i was younger, even on roblox when I used to play. you just couldn’t escape him. nice vid ^_^
I got a picture with Domo-kun at Japanfest 2015-2016 in the Atlanta suburbs when NHK world had a booth setup there. I was so excited lol. They had a Kumamon booth too to attract tourists to Kumamoto prefecture.
absolutely love this video, i have been thinking about domo for a good while but i’m genuinely so glad to see a whole video behind the history of him. thank you so much!
Man, as a Canadian, I saw SO much less Domo merch, I would have LOVED that Hallowe'en merch! I still have the few pieces of merch J could find back in the day, I love the little guy!
I am glad that someone else remembers this lol, I always found that my friends had no interest in Domo, but I loved the shorts, my favorite was the rainy tree short.
awesome vid! i remember watching the nhk and nickelodeon shorts and still have a plushie of domo. it'd be awesome to see a comeback of this silly brown monster from my childhood
Absolutely spectacular quality for an independent RUclips documentary. I remember seeing Domo at Target as a young teen, but I was totally unaware of so much of the history shared here. Great job!
I've seen Domo around a couple of times back in the day, but I never knew anything about him. However, his simple but memorable design always spoke to me. So finally learning what he was about was like getting the answer to a question I had all but forgotten about.
This felt like a mini documentary and I love how in depth you were able to go with it. This could be a video series, where you pick a random Idol from the book and go into it’s history and place in pop culture. If RUclips had a 2 thumbs up I fucking would. Awesome job!
I didn't know there were shorts, I'd love to watch them, he's adorable! It doesn't even look like stop motion, it's incredible how many adjustments and camera clicks they did, I've never seen any that smooth, not even in movies. I always thought he was sort of a Godzilla reference with the happy monster teeth, a soft, cuddly cute baby minster.
Awww I'm so glad this popped up on my feed! I loved Domo! Here in Mexico, somehow turned into an emo fashion icon lol. I still own a Domo plushie dressed with an "el santo" mask and cape. Ironically it was official merchandise if I remember right. Ahhh fond memories
Domo-kun!! I have a Domo-kun plush of him dressed up as Green lantern, and a few other Domo-kun things I accidentally gathered in my childhood. I absolutely loved Domo-kun, even though I didn’t even know his name at the time. He was just “Teeth guy!” to me as a child.
Thia is such an informative video, and it makes me wanna check out all the domo stuff i missed! One domo thing i expirienced as a child was Domo Animate, a flash game collaboration with Go animate. Thars where i learned about Mr. Usaji, Tashana, and the bats
I was introduced to the character by a demotivational poster, with it chasing down a kitten in a grassy field, labeled "It is dark out, you are likely to be eaten by a grue." Domo was a Grue for like 5 years before I saw any other context lol
this was super well put together and researched! i dont have a lot of nostalgia for domo in particular but i love learning about the late 2000s, and this tapped into that in such an amazing well.
I loved Domo as a kid and I remember being quite puzzled about his dissapearance, when I realized that I haven't heard about him for many many years. It seemed so sudden as well. For a second I even thought about the possibility that it was some kind of weird fever dream/fake memory, but quickly realised that it couldn't be the case. Thank you for making this video! ❤ It's lovely to see Domo again :3
this was an amazing video! it got me genuinely really melancholic at times, but I like how you focused on dwarf's later works too, showing that they're still making great stuff. i was only vaguely familiar with domo as a child. i got a plush of him for my birthday once, & I remember my sister showing me the shorts when I was really little & really liking them but not knowing where to find more.
I was first introduced to Domo shorts on Nicktoons back in the early 2000s back when they were experimental and showing all shorts of different kinds randomly. At the time I didn't know it was from japan so it super cool to get all the makings of him now :)
I was very young when Domo hit his peak, but I do recall seeing him in major store chains from 2010-2013. Whether it’s because of surplus items, or because he was still decently popular in my area, Domo was still kicking. I wasn’t a fan of Domo when I was younger. I may have saw a short or two in passing, but I never had much of an interest in him. Despite not being a fan, Domo’s design left such an impact on me that here I am, over a decade later, being able to recall seeing him in stores and watching an hour long documentary on the character. This documentary has made me a fan of the character, it’s quite a surprise to me that I never paid much attention to the little guy. Thank you for reintroducing me to Domo and for unlocking some buried memories.
This was such a thoughtful & informational video essay, well done :) I especially liked the music choice throughout, and the research was really extensive! I think I first discovered Domo around 8-9 years old while I was playing on CoolMathGames. He was in one of the Duck Life games in a final level, where he’d chase your duck (?) I also recall my neighbor having him on a hat. I didn’t know who Domo was until now, so thank you!
God I still have my domo kun with 2010s nerd glasses 🤓 t-shirt. Love that shit and every so often I get some compliments from older Domo fans. Wishing they still had some of there old merchandise.
I actually occasionally watch NHK world because of the yearly sumo championships! They still sometimes air Domo ads inbetween news and shows still, i love it
when i was younger i thought domo was entirely just something made up for the gmod 7-11 map, til one day my dad brought home a green lantern domo figure from a con and i was like "?!?? IT'S REAL?!" i remember being so surprised lmao
Thank you so much for making this video! Ever since I was little I saw my brother had his own domo plush and I think some sort of either poster, calendar or just a picture of domo stuck on the wall on his room. I remember seeing it and being Somehwat scared but also super curious on who and what that thing is. Tho I’ve never been able to figure out or even find out who this character is or was until today! Thanks to the RUclips algorithm recommending me this video I was finally able to discover who this brown sharp teeth thing was and even the amazing history behind it! Also the time I discovered this was around 2006/8 since I remember being a little kid seeing it and all as I said. But yea this video was amazing! I will totally check out all the recommended animations and all since they look AMAZING!!!!

Domo-Kun is something that I saw ALL OVER THE PLACE in around '07-'09, and nobody had any idea where he was from. Now I finally know!

I hope Domo-kun returns someday, his design always clicked with me as a kid

WHY HAS THAT CREATURE SEEPED IT'S SELF INTO EVERY 2000'S INTERNET CREVICE?!?!
I am embarrassed that I had no idea a Domo video essay would reveal an entire new world of things to watch. Thanks!
As a kid I was obsessed with Domo and had a lot of his merch- I've really missed seeing him around!
I miss when i saw domo everywhere, 2014 was an era i will miss forever
This character is very weird for me because I remember knowing about the character enough to call it Domo, but I don’t remember where I first saw the character.
I didn't expect you'd mention I-Mockery and their flash game. It's through their website I first got introduced to Domo-kun, but I always thought it was a too indirect and obscure way to learn about the character. Turns out it was quite the popular website.
it seems small but i love how you made it so that at 57:22 the bus takes us to japan and at 58:37 it brings us home. that's very clever editing!
Hooks me in with a premise of one of the long lost best part of early 2000's internet and proceeds to go into a deep dive on the rabbit hole of Jp stop motion. My dude you dropped this 👑
Thanks for the nostalgia and rabbit hole!
I remember Domo! I used to carry everything in my little Domo-kun bag!
I didn’t know he had lore! 😢
This is such a good doc!
I recently bought a Domo plush two weeks ago. I went back for another one. My favorite anime store took it out of their storage unit and said they had to get rid of dead stock. My plushes are from 2009-2010. What a crazy coincidence to have this video pop up as well. Crossing my fingers for a comeback
my dad has always LOVED domo. he has a domo plush ziptied to the front of his mini van. i remember when i was younger he would always talk about “uncle domo” and “dr domo”, i really could not tell you why 😭 and no one i knew seemed to know who he was so it’s cool to see this
Thank you so much for including a music tracklist, I appreciate that extra effort
i was a bit young to be into meme/internet culture in 2010 or 09, but i still remember domo-kun and how ubiquitous he was at one point... it's so cool to have a broader history of what he is and especially what dwarf studios have done since! that's gotta be my favorite part of this video, though it's always good! + yuzuru hanyu appearance during the figure skating clips
As someone who’s half Japanese domo was my childhood!!! Very excited to watch the video :)
2:52 you jumpscared me so good with that clip
YOU'RE TELLING ME THIS HAS LESS THAN 1000 VIEWS? This one is gonna pop off dude. Super great video, congrats man! I love this :P

I was OBSESSED with domo as a child. Got excited when 7eleven partnered with him YEARSSSS ago
I like Domo as a kid and never watch the shorts until I was a teenager. I liked him as a kid from the merchandise I saw of him around.
Thank you for making this, I love these stories of passionate people living out their dreams :D
awesome vid! i remember watching the nhk and nickelodeon shorts and still have a plushie of domo. it'd be awesome to see a comeback of this silly brown monster from my childhood
God I miss domo I wish they’d at least keep selling merch
I thought this came from a channel with 859 thousand subs until I read it again. Still can’t believe your channel is this small. I subbed.
dang ChrisChan! get out of all the videos I watch!
This was delightful - thank you! I just recently found my Domo-kun plushies as well.
Thanks for this very interesting video! Totally forgot about the character until i saw the thumbnail
Domo-kun is one of the best underrated Japanese mascot characters, change my mind
this was an amazing video! it got me genuinely really melancholic at times, but I like how you focused on dwarf's later works too, showing that they're still making great stuff. i was only vaguely familiar with domo as a child. i got a plush of him for my birthday once, & I remember my sister showing me the shorts when I was really little & really liking them but not knowing where to find more.
you deserve way more dude!!!! this video is awesome
I was first introduced to Domo shorts on Nicktoons back in the early 2000s back when they were experimental and showing all shorts of different kinds randomly. At the time I didn't know it was from japan so it super cool to get all the makings of him now :)
i was recently reminded of domo because of the artist ROMANCEPLANET, this video came to me at the perfect time
I was and still am obsessed with domo lol. All I did as a kid was draw pictures of domo and watch the shorts on nick or RUclips
that chris-chan cameo flashbanged me 😭
I was very young when Domo hit his peak, but I do recall seeing him in major store chains from 2010-2013.
My local mall still has an entire claw machine of older Domo plushies, my friend and I ended up getting a Domo Ghostbusters plush.
Ahh bless. Thank, algorithm. I haven’t thought about Domo-kun since high school in the early aughts, but yes, I DO want to know what happened to him.
When you say domo was everywhere thats no underestimation. I remember seeing him in black ops emblems.
In before you get big ! This documentary is so professional! ❤
4:13 IS THAT CHRIS CHAN???
