I was absolutely stunned when Bobby started talking about "the noise in his head", and the way he deals with it. To take a permanent ever-present adversity [of the type that many might find unbearable] and to not only accept it but to use it to become somehow more at peace spiritually... that takes a kind of inner strength that is almost unimaginable. My jaw drops in awe.
To all tinnitus sufferers. There’s a drummer living on the Isle of Wight that has developed an app that may help, his name is Rupert Brown and he suffers himself. He first noticed it some years ago when he came off stage after playing at Ronnie Scott’s in London with Roy Ayers the legendary American Vibe player. He’s played with Cher, Nigel Kennedy, the Lighthouse Family to name a few. I know there are many apps available but anything is worth a try, I think it’s called T-minus. Thankfully I don’t suffer and I’ve no connection with Rupert but I live on the Island and saw it mentioned in the local paper.
Bobby, you are the man. Layla was my introduction to the blues, as a middle schooler in Ohio in the mid 70s. First came the great appreciation for Eric and Duane's guitar work. Since then, the deep passion and soul delivered in the vocals by you and Eric has predominated, and is unmatched, thanks to you. What a great band. Although a highlight, your journey is certainly not defined by Layla, and, as you say, your soul continues to grow, today better than ever. Coco, your love and compassion facilitating these videos is palbable and admirable. What a great team, a great example. Thank you both ✌️
You mentioned the band Redbone. Well I bought a Les Paul Signature guitar (it's sort of like an ES-335) from one of the members of Redbone a long time ago. I talked to him for a couple of minutes, but I was really shy so I didn't say much, I could tell he was going to miss that guitar, but he was trading it in on some other equipment he needed. That's a moment in my life that I remember fondly because I really like Redbone.
I have also developed tinnitus, learned to live with it, but yeah, in the middle of the night when there's no ambient noise, it can be much more disturbing...
Right on Bobby. Ive been clean and sober for 10 yrs and I can relate to your Spirit world reference. It's like George Harrison talked about. Within You and without you. I too am a musician and have tinnitus. It gets noisy but bearable. Love the series you and CoCo are presenting. Can't wait to see you live here in Denver after the scourge has passed.
What a great guy you are. I came for the comments on Mick Fleetwood and found so much more. Really deep stuff. I have tinnitus after years, but nothing like you're handling.

I thought Bobby might be clean and sober -- he's looking so good and healthy. So many from the 60s/70s either got clean or faded away -- unless you're Keith Richards!
Bobby my Buddy has Ménière's disease, granted he didn’t have operation but what stopped the vertigo and noises, he gave up all caffeine and he has been symptom free, seems caffeine makes Ménière's disease worse. My guitar buddy was shooting his rifle and destroyed his right ear, certain notes cause a boom rattle in head and can’t sleep due to noise. So God Bless you.
I like how he talks about going straight to the top instead of up the chain. It reminds me of an Eleanor Roosevelt quote: "Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn't have the power to say yes."
It's so ironic that a musician has tinnitus and Meniere's disease. I suffer from some of the same symptoms. Constant whooshing noises in the damaged ear... and occasional stuffiness/blockage (Eustachian tubes).... I also heard that Eric Clapton had lost most of his hearing but refuses to wear hearing aids. Roger Daltrey too. I applaud the courage of Bobby in dealing with this debilitating thing. More strength to you, my friend.
@@BW-CC Bobby and Coco: Here's a little thing I found out while dealing with clogged Eustachian tubes. I took a diuretic and bingo! It worked in 15 minutes. Interesting what he says about tinnitus. I also have it (a medium strong version, I guess) and as a long-time meditator it actually helps me get into a quiet inner space. Just like Bobby, I regard it as the sound of the universe, like an AUM. Concentrating on it, my "I" can dissolve in it. Afterwards, I feel like having had an inner bath or cleansing. It might not work for everyone, so be cautious.
Loving these interviews and the conversations. It was interestingto hear about the Meniere’s Bobby experiences. Wondered if he’s ever heard of or tried cranio-sacral therapy, helps fluid movement, among other things, in the brain. It was also interesting to hear about Bobby’s awakening to his own inner world. Seems as tho he’s gone through quite the transformation Finally, I just want to say how much respect, admiration and appreciation I have for Bobby and his integrity throughout his life’s journey. He is who he is, living it out honestly, simply, passionately and in full living color. I so appreciate him and these interviews on so many levels. Thanks Bobby and CoCo
One summer I was saying to myself, "Man, those cicadas are really loud this year". Turns out there are no cicadas, I had tinnitus ... brought on largely by not using ear plugs often enough back in the Army days, and of course ... listening to Derek and the Dominoes (among others) at full freakin' blast volume.
