*** More testing to come with these - we weren't able to use the club conex adapter to get the flatter 'PXG' setting. Please consider this an initial test. ***
Hey Ian/Matt - Sorry don't know where else to request a test from you guys but on your latest video. Do you think you could do a ball test with the Pro V1's but taking each years models for say the past 5 years and see if there is any difference? ie compare 2019 to '18,'17,'16 versions?
Played with a gentleman that gamed this Generation of PXG, and the sound was incredible. May not be important to some, but I’ve found sound to help me recognize strike (as well as bolster a bit of confidence). Cool driver.
I recently got the PXG driver in the X model. The fitting was superb, I was coming from a Ping G30 SF Tec which was producing a forgiving drive, but too high and spinny, the PXG X allowed me to keep all the weight in the heel but drastically reduce spin and height which produced a much cleaner flatter flight for me. Very pleased 👍
I got fitted for a gen 2 xf driver. Getting 10 yards more carry and now getting a slight draw with it. My normal shape is a small fade. I love the sound and feel and that was one of the main things that sold it to me.
I always love when Ian says you probably have seen it before, nope nada ummm it’s why I subbed to TXG that’s your job my job is to remind you we need TXG to give us the skinny, in TXG we trust. 👍 Well done!
The Gen2 0811X is the first composite driver I have ever owned, just because the feel is that good, and I couldn't argue with the numbers. Also as a draw, shallow player, the PXG "3 Flat" setting is huge. Was playing the TS3 previously and had to bench it....
I have the Gen2 0811X. Absolutely love it...and I was using a Ping G410 Plus at the same time. Loved the Ping as well and the distance on my good hits were pretty close...the PXG was a little longer for me on average but nothing crazy. The difference happened on my miss hits. Spin was lower, flight was better and distance was MUCH better on the miss hits with the PXG. Big fan. I also have the gen 1 irons. Kaboom baby!
So the driver with the highest MOI on the market was outperformed by the PXG? I'd say that comes down to your individual contact in that particular session.
@@johnnypenso9574 i had both the Ping and the PXG for over a month before I sold the Ping. The PXG outperformed the Ping in every single session....FOR ME. Keep in mind I was fit for the PXG so it probably has more to do with that than the actual club itself. How would the Ping perform if they had the same extensive fitting process as PXG? Maybe better? who knows. This is where PXG stands out in my opinion.
Is there an imposed limit for MOI? I know there is for CoR but I'm not aware of one for MOI. MGS released their Most Wanted Driver test in February actually. mygolfspy.com/2019-most-wanted-driver/ The XF was rated the most forgiving and consistent with the tightest dispersion although it's only by a hair over many other drivers in the test as is always the case in these MGS tests.
So I was fit for it in the Tensei ck pro orange. Overall it was more consistent than my amp cell pro. Low spin and went a good distance. The shaft was a $125 up charge, which isn’t bad because that shaft is a $250 up charge with a Cobra F9. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but it’s still at the top of my list with the subzero.
I’ve been fitted for the X twice now and it was right up there with two others that were in consideration. It was successful for me in eliminating my miss, a hook. We were able to set it up with the weights, and with the hosel, so that I stayed away from that miss. The spin, launch, etc were all very good for me as well. I would’ve bought it after the two fittings, but $700 with the upcharge Tensei White CK Pro was too much for me to afford. Numbers-wise, the 0811 X was a fantastic fit for me!
0811X CG location with heavy weights forward is 4mm below the neutral axis. Heavy weights at the back have the CG location 1.5mm below the neutral axis. 0811XF has CG right on the neutral axis though 12.7mm further back than the X.
Considering you couldn't flatten the lie angle out mat didn't seem to over draw or hook any to badly which obviously shows how stable and forgiving the PXG clubs are . Looking forward to seeing an in depth review and full fitting when you can access the full adapter settings to really dial in the full capabilities... Very good initial review....
I’m disappointed there was no discussion of the true cost to own one of these drivers in comparison to the other OEM’s. Sure off the shelf at a sporting goods store PXG is more expensive, however anyone that is likely to watch these videos isn’t going to Dicks sporting goods for a driver. Recently was fit for a driver at the PGA tour academy and it came down to the epic flash SZ and PXG x. Here are the costs: Epic flash SZ with hazrdus yellow(handcrafted): 529 retail. Got a discount from my club that brought the price to 485 PLUS the upcharged shaft $200 TOTAL: $685 PXG X with identical shaft TOTAL: $ 575 One of those number is bigger and it’s not the PXG.
Truth Stream hahaha. Yea when I went for my fitting PXG wasn’t even on the radar. Both driver performed close. The PXG had a slight edge. When I saw the pricing I couldn’t believe it
Jacob Streiff I respectfully disagree. Starting from minute 3:09 prior to testing they set this up as a test of “is the performance worth it” and go on to give their opinions.
Jason Piraino the true cost of the pxg is actually cheaper than an m5 if your planning to add an after market shaft... m5 $550 plus $150 for the Fujikura 2.0 up charge pxg $575 and it comes standard... hope that helps
I went with the cobra f9 after watching your review and I could not be happier. Really odd to see a difference from my old m2 to that one. Nice to see you hitting pxg clubs as well!
Lowered my flight almost in half. Low heel hits didn’t go crazy high or right either. Spin is LOW and I agree with your estimate on vertical CG being the culprit of that. By far the best driver I’ve played or tested this year. Pair that with the best stock shaft offerings in the industry, real winner here.
totally agree with your reply. I found the same results. After being fit properly, the PXG XF amazed me. Best dispersion ever and the no charge upgrade shafts makes it a value over Callaway and TM..
Pxg website that driver is £250 now, you can choose shaft shaft length grip grip size. You have to pay extra if you want a high end shaft but the choices you have for £250 are very good in my opinion.
After testing many drivers including mavrik, sims etc I tried this one with a ventus counterbalanced shaft and it blew me away and significantly improved my optimal numbers and distance. I also lived the sound and feel of the club. Don’t know whether they will be releasing a gen 2 soon or not as am aware that there is a prototype on tour and of course the gen 3 irons are out - and also 👍
Too many people getting stuck on the Gen2 being about a hundred dollars more. Having a fitting and aftermarket shaft built into their price vs the TM, Cally and others coming with a stock shaft easily makes up for that difference. Getting a fitting and aftermarket upgrade into the M5 or Flash and you’re over the price of the PXG by $50 or $100 without question
The bigger picture is there's no real distance difference between drivers these days and only small differences in spin and launch angles so play what you can afford and get fit as best you can so you have the right shaft and feel for you and your game.
ESikora12 I 100 percent agree. I’m a little disappointed TXG boys didn’t point that out. I would have thought they would have. I purchased the pxg with handmade hazrdus yellow and cally flash SZ with the 200 upgrade to that shaft and the pxg was 100 cheaper
ESikora12 it’s only $25 more than an M5 but with a ton of free shaft upgrade options so I’d pick this over most of the new drivers available on the market if I’m in the market
With premium, no charge shaft upgrades available, the 811 becomes a bargain. I ended up with the XF because it was the best spin numbers by far (for me). Had a great, extensive fitting with Titleist, Ping, Callaway and TM.. Fitted with the Project X Evenflow S 65 gm shaft and a slight draw bias, it gave me a dispersion grouping I've never attained before in 50 years of play. Getting a good fitter is key, but I loved the looks and way it sets up. The ball speed is within 1 mph of the hottest driver (The Ping 410), but the sound, the feel and perhaps it was the sightly upright lie fit my swing to a T.. That the price is now inline with the other top lines (and less if you get an upgraded shaft that PXG offers) makes this one to try. The one other plus is that my lesser swings were less penal than the others, by a good margin.
I’ve played two rounds with my X, my tendency is low heel and I’ve found it to be more forgiving with the ball flight not as severe left (me being right handed).
Sorry I should probably add that it’s the XF head I have. I’m a high spin player that misses with a high slice usually. When I nail this it flies further than anything I’ve hit. Looks the best on the market for me, as I love a matt head. Sound/feel also the best for me. For some reason I hit this low in the head all the time or slightly low toe, so have had to tee it up a lot higher, which puts me off sometimes. Weights are in the draw position to eliminate the slice, but my miss is now a horrible hook!
I play the Gen 2 X in the 10.5 flat setting with an AD GP 7X and it’s a low spin monster. This coming from a guy who hits in low in the face pretty consistently I’m always around 300 yards on what most consider a bad strike. I also ordered a Tensei Pro Orange 70tx, just because I love the shaft and what to toy around with it. Would you expect any big differences other than being counterbalanced?
Bandit confession time; I went for a fitting at PXG's new performance centre in the UK a couple of weeks ago and instantly fell in Love with the 0811 XF version. Loved the sound and loved the Ball flight, my tendency for the occasional low heel strike seemed to have very little drop off in distance or direction. I never thought that I would replace my G400 MAX, but I did in Spades! I also tested the Hybrids whilst I was there and they were even better than the Driver! So I placed an order for the Driver and two Hybrids (19 & 23 deg) (which filled a gap in the upper end of the Bag). Whilst I was there their Fitter mentioned that they have a new addition to their Iron range coming out in May, so I am planning a return trip soon to give them a try out as well.
Luckily MrsBandit takes little interest in my Golf acquisitions, in the same way, that I never pass comment on those new shoes that suddenly appear in the dressing room. As there are no upcharges on the Shaft options the end Price wasn't too alarming. The only slight downside is the 5 weeks delivery from the US, but I can't wait to get them out on the course.
Yes Mike, it was the newly extended and refurbished Suite at Garforth. I was the second Customer to be fitted in there by Laurence on its opening day. It's pretty impressive! Although I had to come over from Manchester on the M62, it's a lot quicker than travelling down south, to the land of warm/flat Beer and Cold Women. LOL
As soon as they are delivered Brian and I start using them I will give you my feedback. I was very impressed with the fitting and Laurence the Guy that fitted me gave me some useful advice about the makeup of my Bag.
@@banditbaker1675 That's the problem with PXG. Delivery time is ridiculous... But products are good! Need to try those drivers. The putter I got through Ian is very nice
I loved the 5 wood, felt like you really could tell where you hit it. Found the driver a really weird feel on mishits. Real solid/ harsh? Maybe more on higher strikes. Currently TS2 and hate the feel/ sound on high strikes. Any drivers that feel like Ping g400? Edit: PS: or should i just get properly fit for it? Not real confident in former fitter.
What length is the Ping vs PXG? Std is 45.75" vs 45" (PXG)!! Perhaps this is why ball speed is 1.2mph higher w/Ping? What does "Open" mean....is the loft lower (which opens the face angel)...how much lower on the 10.5*?
Good video again guys, looking forward to the follow up. How do you set it in the “PXG” setting? I picked up a GEN2 driver a couple of weeks ago and hit some awful hooks over the weekend. Usually a slice is my miss. A flat setting could really help hopefully.
Interesting to know if this club is now an even more interesting proposition now that it’s 2021, new drivers have emerged but you can now pick up a gen2 0811 driver for £270 ?
I'd love to have you guys fit me. Actually, I'd love to work for you guys. Vertical weight distribution - things that should be considered when selecting a driver head based on individual delivery.
I guess the point is that you can be fit for any driver with all the available adjustments and shafts now a days. So get what you can afford or put together preowned models from a year or 2 ago with a once $300 shaft from 8 years ago for $80 and hit it just as far as the "guy" with the rivets on his driver......? yeah I think I'll save my $600 hahaha thanks TXG!!
Interesting! So in theory, the new GEN2 is now “the most forgiving driver on the market.” Maybe in 3 years time will buy one for $150 to replace my 400max 😂

Ping G400 Max has Iyy of 5700 and combined of just under 10k. PXG Gen2 0811XF has Iyy of 5900 (legal limit) and combined over 10k.
Interesting! So in theory, the new GEN2 is now “the most forgiving driver on the market.”
Maybe in 3 years time will buy one for $150 to replace my 400max 😂
@@fergusreeverealestate.7409 You can buy a NEW one now for $279 direct from PXG.
