From what I understand Kerry accidentally hit the lever that locked her into the lift with her elbow and not her back like the scene choreography normally called for. Since the computer only sensed when the lift was closed, and technically ready to go up, it started lifting even though she wasn't fully locked in. She realized this and panicked thinking she would fall and get hurt. The scene was immediately stop and she got down without getting hurt. I applaud her for making sure she finished the scene, but I'm truly glad she was ok.
I absolutely love hearing the orchestra without vocals. The drama of the moment add to the bizarreness of the clip but I think hearing an actual orchestra go full blast without the vocals makes my hair stand on end.
As a stage manager, this is quite chilling and suddenly my mind is going into crisis control mode even though I know she's okay and this happened a decade ago hahaha
It's something that never turns off in your brain, no matter how long you've been away from the call mic. Seeing shows, I can never *really* relax because some part of my mind is still seeing the stage from an SM perspective. Kudos to the team for keeping everyone safe!
Did anyone else notice that the “aAaAahhhhh” was extended? I think it’s because they wanted to come back from that accident strong so they did that. Because usually that last riff is 6 seconds it was 10 here.
Elphaba provides the conductor work the cure to end the song so on any night the length of the last note is determined by actress as is the the length of the word "me" on the first "bring me down"
In the score, the final note of the riff is notated with a fermata(for all vocals and piano), which means it's to be held for an unspecified amount of time but longer than the normal note value that is there, or, as long as the performer or conductor wants. I'm assuming the ensemble, and conductor follow every different Elphaba every night as she leads the song. But just a guess.

I got a zoom workshop with Kerry Ellis the other day. It was absolutely amazing! I’m so lucky to have got the chance to do it. She’s so talented and really nice!

Basically, I think a stage manager says it whenever something like this happens. They normally say at first "Ladies and gentlemen, we're sorry but (show title) can not continue at this time and will be back momentarily." and then follow up again when the show can continue and everything is alright.

This happened in late March 2008 I guess. Also, instead of flying, they did the no fly choreography which usually happens when the lift isn't working.
