Versatile, impossible to pigeon-hole and always artistically unorthodox, Werner Herzog, the director of "Aguirre-the Wrath of God", "Grizzly Man", "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans", has never stopped finding ways to breathe new life into the conversation around film. Now, the master of live interviews, Paul Holdengräber, takes the audience on a journey around the superbly restless mind of one of the contemporary arts’ great personalities.
The conversation was held 15.04.2019 at Onassis Stegi Main Stage.

Every time I hear him speak it feels like time well spent. A wise man.
Grateful! again.. It's like opening a bible of experiences. And I say Bible in the sense of all the layers of reality where this dialogue moves. Totally real facts, allegories, metaphors, all the arts, science, philosophy. A tireless explorer, all on foot. That grandfather I never had who keeps bringing stories. thanks again
He will be regarded as a genius in time to come. He is a giant in thought, sensibility, originality. A real caring Renaissance man. How much we can learn from him! He is an inspiration not just in the film world but in every sphere.
In a way, his films could disappear and he would just talk ABOUT them and he would still be making an extremely interesting contribution to our culture.
I yes you.
A king
great talk
Talking bout his Grandfather made me realize that the secret to a happy marriage is you have to be clinically insane. Lol.
it's more: the secret to deal with being clinically insane is to have a happy marriage
Ed Abbey wrote in Desert Solitaire in 1968 about what he called Industrial Tourism and it's effect on the soul of man and the real purpose behind it. Money/greed trumping all other concerns. Werner's comment about tourism being a modern sin, follows that thought and theme. I have seen in 40 years this as a fact. The internet has made it even worse!
All hail, his ecstatic majesty, Ubermensch Herzog.
oh jeez be careful with the hailing there.
Heill ok sæll

I found Of Walking in Ice boring. Herzog also mentions that once when he had broken into somebody's summer cottage, he peed in the owner's boot. Who does that? After that I lost the little interest that book had remainingfor me. Robert Louis Stevenson's travel book was better - and I'm sure there are many better books about traveling on foot than Herzog's.
He is taking the piss….
Not gonna lie, I idolize him- but got nothing from it.
Some of us like the dogs have to leave our mark'scent on others property. Done it all my life,
The other guy is annoying.... Just let Werner talk
monotheism is not the only religious approach available, you know? ;) (are you jealous or what?)
@@tenno1981 why should I be jealous? Of what? And what religion? I am of no confession.
@@deumbenediciteetinternet5003 wrote it with a tongue in cheek, but my point was to bring some awareness to the relational(or even dialectic?) aspect of this dialogue. I discovered Holdengraber recently and find him very skilled interview er who is not just å polite puppet but tries to add some dynamic and creates quality "resistance" to the interviewees. Imagine being a persona like Herzog, who must be bored to death and fed up with worship and just wants to argue with some intelligent friends.
@@tenno1981 I agree that a good interview has an element of resistance and tension to it. Otherwise, if the interviewee wants to just speak their mind without friction, interviews are not the only avenue for doing such a thing. I think having a challenging interviewer brings out a lot of interesting things that we wouldn't hear otherwise
I agree he breaks immersion and turns a mysterious conversation into a distinctly conscious and analytical affair.
