- Be aware, there is an essential truth and beauty in all things. From the death throes of a speared gazelle to the damaged smile of a freeway homeless. But that does not mean that the invisibility of something implies its lack of being. Though simpleton babies foolishly believe the person before them vanishes when they cover their eyes during a hateful game of peek-a-boo, this is a fallacy. And so it is that the unseen dusty build up that accumulates behind the DVD shelves in the rumpus room exists also. This is unacceptable.
If you say "impending doom" three times, Werner Herzog appears.
I summoned Werner Herzog at 3am. I need help. Dude wouldn't even let me eat a banana without going wax lyrical about the pointlessness of pleasure.
LIAR!
I tried it, and despite my deepest wishes -- and repeated attempts -- it didn't happen.
@@BOBMAN1980nope he didnt lie. Did you really wanted the Depressioness and madness and misery that he brings? If yes and you do it im pretty sure he will come.

There is something unendingly satisfying about Herzog making Elon Musk confused and uncomfortable by just brazenly declaring he would go to Mars, and "wouldn't have a problem" with it.
I think he pleased him. Elon was confused at first, yes, but then he realized he was being complimented :)
> stage interview
> say you wouldn't have a problem on mars
> refuse to elaborate
@@MrGrace Werner Herzog is hardly a Musk fan so I doubt it.

@American Hero Well, Putin is somewhat less insufferable than the self congratulatory tech bro culture.
I will put all of my funds towards paying Werner Herzog to narrate my funeral. No script, just riff and depress the guests
I think that stupidity speech about chickens will do for my funeral. I'll just let them leave my eyes open or have some huge picture of me so that they can look straight into my eyes.
“Here lies John Doe, who in life is overwhelmingly fornicated by the vicissitudes of fate, as though he is but a cog in this meaningless ruse, clinging on to this hapless farce which he had toiled in vain to imbue with meaning. I will miss him dearly.”
These comments are gold!
He did a funeral speech for Les Blank which was anything but depressing. It's on youtube.
is this my favourite comment all time on this webcite?

"It's something very exhilarating for a man to be shot at with little success"
I can't even 😂
Well, what else would you call that one scene in breaking bad?
@@ironwraith852 Yeah, but this is real life. And Werner Herzog is an absolute legend larger than life.
@@Pfromm007 Yeah, I hadn't gotten to that point in the video at that time. Really gotta stop doing that.
That interview is available on RUclips. When at the hospital/closest shelter, this gem of a conversation takes place:
Interviewer: You have a bullet in your stomach!
Werner: That is insignificant.
hey isnt that a churchill quote? "Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." wich actually just means that the sound of bullets passing overhead is terrifing

Only Werner Herzog would approach getting shot with all the frustration of someone who stepped on a Lego
That's some Theodore Roosevelt tier constitution..
just part of the folklore here
"It was not a serious bullet."
The human experience is a spectrum. Some people take 13 9 mm to the chest and keep walking. I’ve never seen anyone step on a Lego and not immediately restrain themselves from demolishing the nearest piece of drywall
It was a .177 pellet, I removed one from the corner of my eye.
Herzog...
Werner Herzog is proof that the intrusive thoughts winning doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.
This is something Werner himself would have said. Well done.
I feel that Wener intrudes on his own intrusive thoughts, and claimed them as his internalized and formed thoughts, as the words and thoughts pass by him.
“It’s a grotesque parody of the Bazaar at Marekesh. As if dumb animals had been granted only the amount of sentience required to mock humanity.” - Yelp review from Werner
Written by a comedian doing an impression of him but it’s perfect
That entire podcast is unbelievably funny.

I would love to watch an interview between David Lynch and Werner Herzog, just to see who taps out first in the weird-off.
Yessss
Can we throw John Waters in, too? Pleeeeeeeease… I won’t ask for anything else until Christmas?!
"Have the monks stopped meditating? They all seem to be tweeting" is still my favourite quote of his, I just love the exasperated tone when he says it too! 😂❤☸
This man has made lots of films, he ate his shoe after losing a bet, he had a mixed working relationship with the difficult klaus kinski, he saved Joaquin Phoenix from a ca accident and got shot and carried on with an interview. What an interesting life.
He also pulled a ship over a mountain, ran into a border war in South America , walked from Munich to Paris on foot and purposely jumped into a cactus.
It was an insignificant bullet.
Imagine being Joaquin in that moment.
You're driving along and there is a bright flash as you lose control of the car... then as you come to: "und it vas zen zat young Ally virst come to realice ze zeverity of vat had uhccured in ze ztreet zat naheet"
And he’s the only director to ever film on all 7 continents
In order to get to the filmset of Aguirre, he tried hard to get a flight, but without success. The plane crashed over the jungle and except one girl all passengers died
“I would come along, I wouldn’t have a problem.” I genuinely believe Herzog when he says he’d go to Mars. Very few people I would believe, but I could see him strapped to a rocket venturing out into the void. And I would want him to be the one to film it all.
He'd just go up there and still be abundantly nihilistic... Like...
"I find the exploration of this red planet to be nothing but a pointless act in favour of man's hubris and pride as he stares into the void of his own mortality."
@@tedparkinson2033 LOL spot on!
This got me thinking. How the hell didn't he get on the crew for dearMoon?

A man who is no doubt dissapointed that his predictions for society were so accurate
We are all penguins walking towards death
@@jordanlewis4983 Well, yes-that’s unavoidable. We’re all moving towards death from the moment we’re born.
Not only society, life itself.
@@lothar3610 Just because we are aware of the chaos around us doesn't mean we have to surrender to it. Take stock in the good memories you have, the good moments you have had, the people who are there or gone who taught you your own personal version of happiness and beauty. Don't rely on a god or a figurehead to guide you in life, take the plunge, and realize every day is new and our time is short. We are not the center of the universe, and life is always going to have suffering, but without that suffering, we wouldn't have purpose to help and heal others in many ways, or inspire us like Herzog has to find our own meaning without the continued harm and manipulation of others to get close to what we believe we want. Don't give up on humanity, and don't give up on life, keep going, spread love in your own way without harm, and know the best or kind of us are trying to do that in their own way.

Werner Herzog deserves far better than the modern Simpsons writing
Its like using silk for toilet paper. Such a waste.
yeah, he should have written his own simpsons treehouse of horror special or at least his own dialogues/monologues
Boondocks is great Herzog!
It's getting a bit tired, the whole hating on modern Simpsons cuz you think it's the cool band wagon to be on, thing.
That episode is like 11 years old
"When you were shot, did you call the police?"
"No. I've been shot at with much more serious bullets before in my life."
Herzog is at his best when it comes to nature and animals, as the clips here show: the epic rant about the rainforest, the contempt for chickens, the unsentimental description of bears, the "insane" penguin ...
the collective harmony...of murder
that poor penguin…😢
His documentary about volcanos was very good too
I could even listen to him reading an old phonebook
He will make commentary on the phonebook. Probably on how it's like a corpse left on life support. No one uses the phonebook, but still, every year, it shows up on our doorstep.

I read somewhere that Joaquin Phoenix was in a bad car wreck, and he was pulled out and looked after by Werner Herzog. Herzog tried to downplay the situation and not call attention to himself
And now phoenix is fucked right up. Moral: don’t talk to Werner Herzog if you want to not play the joker one day

My favorite Werner Herzog moment is his cameo in Parks and Rec where he's the creepy landlord for the mansion Andy and April buy.
"After 47 years of living here...I decided to move to Orlando....so I can be closer to Disney World..."
"This was a doll head factory?"
"No. This was a holding cell for people who went insane on the assembly line."
Even as a german i have to confess, this is a strong german accent. :D
You have to love Werner Herzog, you really have to. This world will be a lot emptier once hes gone. But i dont want to think about that. And i am sorry i brought that up.
Sounds like something Werner herzog would say
The enormity of his mortality is overwhelming
It's all right freund, Werner has accepted his own crushing mortality a long time ago. Now i would LOVE to see him narrate a funeral. XD

I want to hear him try to tell a bedtime story, but get sidetracked by, "the cruel, and unrelenting darkness. I see no peace here. I don't see bedtime as a time of solace, it is a time of nightmares, and uncertainty. To subject a child to such pain really shows the nature of man and his cruelty. Mary had a little lamb..."
He and many others saw real horrors in Germany as Children but you can read some Brothers Grimm or Krampus stories yourself.
He would be a great Bond Villain
He played an Imperial villain in The Mandalorian.
By far, his small role was the the greatest part of that show.
He was the villain in the Jack Reacher film.

Extremely fucked up scene in relation to the film. so, fuck your humor, DiCaprio man
I'd just love to hear Werner's voice narrate my life as it were a documentary.
Gotta get eaten by a grizzly bear then
All you need to do is use his voice for your internal monologue. I tried it once for the majority of a single daytime and it became difficult to desist. I'm fine now except that occasionally I'm prone to bouts of nihilistic ecstacy at the sight of the meaningless meanderings of the common earthworm.

I laughed my ass off at all of the out of context quotes, but honestly Werner blowing Henry Rollins' mind talking about getting shot like hes fucking Snoop Dogg is the best part of this
Henry Rollins is no stranger to being shot at himself...when he was younger, he and his best friend were mugged right outside of his house and the friend was shot and killed right in front of him. He talks about it on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries (the muggers were never caught)

If someone makes a documentary about my life, I want the soothing voice of Werner Herzog telling the story of my certain doom.
Oh, man, you left out my favorite quote, from the Les Blank docu about the making of Fitzcaraldo. He was talking about the "Chungle," as he did a lot, and he says it's wholesale murder, "...And the birds...they are not sing-ging from choy, they are screaming in agony!"
I will always remember Warner Herzog from the documentary of Grizzly Man. I became fascinated with his voice than because it was just so soothing I guess you call it. I'm also glad that I finally got to see what he looks like finally on the Mandalorian
Doesn't he feature in-person during Grizzly Man? It's not just a narration, if I remember.
He was also perfectly cast in Jack Reacher
Thats how I heard of him too. I love his calm, heavily accented voice combined with his philosophical and pessimistic musings on life, animals, the human condition etc. What a guy!

I’ve heard Conan O’Brian talk about the Werner Herzog penguin movie before. About how he goes into a thing about the penguin and madness. I was not expecting to see this clip, but goddamn dose it deliver. 😂
His point about chickens is spot on lmao. Look a chicken in the eye and tell me you're still certain they're intelligent enough to feel pain.
We know some birds are very smart. Crows, parrots for example. I wonder if we've bred the brains out of chickens. Maybe it's just as well, for them.
@@allosaurusfragilis7782 They don't need much up there. Not really.
Owned an African grey, true intelligence, almost frightening.
Owned chickens. Frighteningly dumb, but sometimes sweet.
Chicken demonstrate cognitive skills on par with other mammals and primates. If you hide an object from a chicken, they will still know it's there - this is something even young human children aren't able to do. Even if they were uniquely dumb, it wouldn't justify the horrific things we do to them (cutting their beaks off, throwing baby chicks in blenders, feeding them until they're too obese to support their own body weight, killing and butchering them, etc.).
Well, I''m sorry Gustav, but you're not too intelligent either, if you think that intelligence is a factor in whether or not something or someone experiences pain.
