I wouldn't trust myself with animus magic as I often talk to myself and random objects. (e.g "I wish I has that cool LEGO set instead of that person" or "Book, STAY on that page! Don't lose your place!) Imagine the chaos I could accidentally create!

I LOVE your what ifs. They're always so well written! Thanks for making this! Congrats on 20k, by the way! You totally deserve it! Here's some ideas: What if Sunny was bitten by the Dragonbite viper instead of Clay? What if Cricket could be mind controlled by Queen Wasp? What if Darkstalker and Whiteout switched roles? What if Anemone or Turtle went mad? I always love what ifs. It's so interesting to think how much the plot could change if one little detail was switched or if a character made this choice instead of that.
It'd be interesting to see how being an animus would affect Winter. I don't believe he'd turn into another Darkstalker because A) the Icewings only let their animus cast one big spell during their lifetimes, and B) despite all his bluster Winter doesn't want to hurt others. Nature vs nurture was a big theme in his book, his upbringing made him feel like he always has to assert himself but when it came to throwing hands he only does it when he believes it's necessary, not impulsively lashing out like a lot of people seeem to think. In his book Winter said that if he were an animus he'd use his one spell to create a place where scavengers could be studied.
That would be so bad winter would be like “I’ll rip your face off and throw it in the ocean!” Well…. Worded like that I don’t think it would happen but a little different wording and poof
I love this idea! I had a winter AU idea a while ago with the same idea but couldn’t really make a good plot of it but I love how you did it here! I was waiting for the part with him going to JMA and all but it makes more sense the icewings would keep their only animus in the ice kingdom.
I wonder who got the Pyrite mask in this version of events. Perhaps by the time the war is over whoever that dragon is might also have wanted to keep the enchantment after being freed from it, Pyrite and Hailstorm could be friends with each other?
Honestly, I thought Winter being an animus would be a disaster kind of story, but this is SO MUCH better! It's beautiful to see how Winter having powers just took his brotherly bind with Hailstorm to new heights

What if Winter freed all the Frozen IceWings in the Diamond Caves? What if Darkstalker choose the good path in darkstalker?
To be honest if i had animus magic I have a way to make the world perfect: Cast a spell that would create different universes, and each one is perfect for a specific person.
Winter is one of my favorite characters! I do wish either you or Cyprus could do what if Moon chose Winter, in hope for all of the Wintereatcher fans out there also because of his character development, his character arc was so fascinating. (there aren’t many but I know a lot of people love WinterWatcher) including me. But in the end I’m glad Winter found peace he’s a great character!

It was a stressful situation, and knowing IceWing tradition, he probably thought that was all he could do. He was terrified of what the royal family would do if they found out he had even used his magic that once on Hailstorm. But after years without his brother, he didn't care anymore. As for the blood, I mentioned in the pinned comment it was an error :)

That's what the IceWings did back all throughout history -- each animus was only allowed to perform one great gift for the tribe, and then never use their magic again. Winter had been taught this all his life, so he didn't really think about using it twice after he already used it on the tree. (But him using it twice, and technically his "one gift" (now being two for Hailstorm) will come into play during a potential part two 👀
