Though this plane was added a little while back now, it still always makes me so happy that it was added every time I see it; I liked it before WT and it's pretty obscure. :) Definitely in a much better place now at 5.3 than the horribly overtiered 6.3 it was when it was first added.
I played it at 6.3, 5.7 and 5.3 and because "Russia bias" every plane that gets its BR reduced it also gets a brutal slap on the flight model. I remember when the i225 was still flyable past 600 IAS, now it just becomes a lawndart past 350 IAS and you can even flat spin at low speed
You really managed to learn your aim with Shvaks mate, these are rather a slower velocity guns same like japanese Type 99 imo. This plane works so well if you show some patience and climb 👍 :)
I don't know what I like more, this beast or a Yak-9UT with the 45 mm, but this thing spaded man, it's impossible to loose with it Btw, about control stiffening, is there any research or something to correct it? I mean with crew points or something
@ yeah boosters are the only way you can improve your stiffening. I don't use jets so I forgot about them sorry about that, only plane I have with boosters I have is the F 82, which is an odd ball one of the few props with boosters. But outside of boosters there isn't any way to improve stiffening.
API overpens, FI-T is great for fighters and have more laser like accuracy, HEF-I does nothing. Gaijin said they would change FI-T for HEI-T (and promised to add HEF to GSh23L) but as it always happens to Russia in this game, it just moves off the rail and prefers to buff an American tank or plane.
This thing has pretty good high altitude performance and speed. So you can compete with the late tier Germans up there at 6,500 meters or even a little higher.
Yeah no, not just a little higher. This thing is THE high altittude interceptor. It was meant to intercept the Ju-86P, a german photo recon plane at altittudes in excess of 10000 meters. No german plane except the Ta-152H can match you above 6000 meters.
@@jengar6258 bought it and holy fucking cow it is the best energy fighter I have ever used. It just goes up and and up even at 6000 meters you can stall out anything basically even if you opponent has the same energy level. What a steller plane. My main gripe with it is the planes I stall out my useless teammates come and snipe before I get back down and get guns on but I guess that's not the worse issue to have with a plane.
@@jengar6258 Yes spaded and WEP until its overheating, I even saw a P51 and F4U at 5km at the same time so I guess I really must be doing something wrong?
I don't know. In RB, I've had exclusively bad experiences with this plane. My concern with it isn't even the ammo load, it's the turn rate, which is so bad it makes the plane almost unplayable as far as I'm concerned. In a dive, if the enemy plane so much as moves a muscle in your dive, you have to pull out cause you literally can't turn fast enough to lead the enemy plane. I normally get between 1 and 3 kills each RB battle, and I have consistently been getting between 0 and 1, with the I225. Arcade battles its a completely different story. The extreme power of the engine and the more forgiving turn radius makes this plane insane against almost anything you come up against. But in RB, it's been dogwater if you ask me. Maybe I just need to unlock some more modules for it, as it is almost completely stock as of now. But still, my only reaction to trying to play this plane in RB is frustration.
9:08 Disagree, sustained turn times are amazing in the I225. It just keeps its speed extremely well, due to energy retention in maneuvers, hence locks up at high speeds.
this is just a no. You can still retain speed and turn, where you pull a lot of G load. An example of this is the Ki84, the ta152H and the Spitfire Mk24 which would retain around 600 ias without losing any speed and giving you 11G loops. The I225 is just a plain stall fighter. Go 340+ IAS and you're completely useless. Last year, i225 could pull 7G at 650 IAS, not bad despite the instant lock up, nowadays reaching any "overload" warning is totally impossible. Plus, the ShVAKs while more damaging they're still unreliable as they will give you a dumb crit in the cases when before it was a spark or a hit. The plane wins only when the opponent decides to go up against you. As stale as it is, you can defeat an i225 by simply flying faster than 450 ias below it. Even yet as a stall fighter, it has one of the worst stall controls of any plane, refusing to maneuver to dodge when going up, roll down clean without sending you into a stall fight. It is, also, the most fragile prop in the game, as it will get doomed with the smallest hit. Even more than the zero, more than the j7w1.
@@QeteshThePony no, it's just someone who has flew the i225 since it was 6.3. Do you even fly it? or you just say the funny? "Cope! now guys clap for my words!"
this plane is horrible until that j2m3 or that spitfire lf mk9 starts fighting with you. A couple of rolls to avoid the first shots at zero throttle to go from 500 ias to 300, pop out Landing flaps and press S all day. You'll outfight anything that's not a Zero/Ki43. I love the plane for 1v1
Best plane for it's BR (the gun is sad) you can call it a soviet rocket program and superbly fast at high altitude. Good turn, Good p/w ratio, good MER but very compress at high speed.
