I just bought this exact car yesterday, and I love it! I traded a 2018 Optima SXL, which I thought had plenty of power. But this GT blows it away! I agree on needing AWD
I’ve been driving one exactly like this since June 8th. It’s a great car! I use it for a daily commuter but when you want to have fun it’s all you can handle and then some…
I have a 23' GT with GT1 package. 33k trouble free miles. Stock Pirelli's are trash. Replaced them with Conti DWS 06. Traction issue solved. You can still spin them if you want. I average 25.5 mpg and don't baby it. Many people get the non gt and complain it's slow. This motor is GDI and MFI, so no carbon buildup issues. It's a good sleeper too. Have dusted a few people on occasion. Runs on 87 octane no issues. Added a Luxon front strut tower brace to tighten up front end.
I just picked mine up 3 days ago in pearl white. Upgraded from a 2015 Optima SXL Turbo, love it so far. Only thing I don’t like is the big chrome trim above the windows that wraps around the back. I might get that wrapped black.
Excellent review Mike. This vehicle intrigues me. I think I like it a bit better than the Sonata N-Line due to its extra amenities. I was doing a search of dealers for in stock K5 GTs and they are very rare. There were none on Long Island where I live. The closest one is in Ewing NJ! You guessed it! It is the very same model you test drove in this video! How about that?😂😂😂
Sharp looking car. I agree that this car should have all wheel drive, especially for almost 40K. These cars are pretty quick. If your not careful, you can easily go over the speed limit without realizing it. Excellent review. 👍
I took delivery of this exact car on June 8th. It is definitely the best car I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a good many of them over the years. I added aluminum pedals for the gas, brake and foot rest. It definitely adds some pizzas to the interior of the car…
I am surprised it doesn't come with aluminum pedals. My older 2013 Elantra GT had them. Where do you get aftermarket ones? Wish it had that ambient lighting too.
I am test driving one this week. I tried a Sonata N Line with the same engine. Loved it, but no ventilated seats or heated steering wheel, no 360 camera or blind spot monitors. Not even an option. I have a loaded Sante Fe, 2018, so getting away from AWD is a concern in Maine. Too bad they won't do this with AWD. I also agree on the green stitching....should be on the dash & steering wheel. No ambient lighting? No remote smart parking assist? For the same price, they have the fairly quick Sportage hybrid 227 hp, Prestige SX, with all of that. A lot to consider.
Hello, thank you for the review. I would recommend purchasing this model over the GT Line model if you are on a budget because it offers superior features at a lower cost. Notably, it boasts 290 horsepower and rear seat AC vents, providing enhanced performance and comfort. However, the GT1 package, priced close to $40,000, includes additional features such as blacked-out rims, heated and cooled seats, blinds spot carmea view, and a memory seat for the passenger. While the N Line offers the same horsepower, it lacks many of these features to maintain a lower cost. 😅 I feel like kia took it for this year refresh. Over the new sonata n line refresh
@@supremecarnage5071 I think the reason the N-Line lacks some of the features is that Hyundai reserves them for the Sonata Limited Hybrid trim. Fortunately KIA is not offering a K5 Hybrid 😊
5:50 yes gt should have ambient lightning and all wheel drive and more than 1 interior choice would be perfect if i could get black seats with red stitching and red calipers
Front wheel drive is the one thing holding me back from the Kia's and Hyundais. Nice package for sure. Wonder how it deals with snow and ice, also how reliable are they after years of hard use?
Hey Andrew. This car in the snow would be scary. I would go K5 GT Line AWD myself. The 2.5 liter is a pretty good engine. I wouldn’t go any smaller. Thanks for tuning in. 👍
Beautiful car. I currently drive a 2018 Genesis G80 Sport, but I almost feel like in terms of features and speed, the Kia K5 GT would be a parallel move rather than a downgrade.
im getting one at the end of the year, when all the sales are happening. absolutely need the optional auto-dimming rear view mirror. one feature i keep noticing that youtubers are forgetting to mention is the launch control.
I want the gt but my dad is helping me pay for it and wants me to lease the gt line awd should I spend the extra for the gt im going to lease by the way
I'm getting this with the GT1 pkg. If I wanted to save money...I'd get the Sonata N line...at least I'd have the Bose sound system and ambient lighting.
Beautiful car..buy a base LXS and forego turbo engine and DSG trans. Non-turbo 2.5L with 8 speed torque converter auto is standard. LXS is great looking in white with black wheels and cloth black interior. Not hybrid but less costly than base Camry or Accord. It is a more distinctive car. Reliability and longevity..my hunch: very good! One of my favorite sedans..likely the best buy! As usual, great review!! ..
That’s a turbo 4 with less power than the K5 GT. RWD will give you better handling, but if you want the power and the handling, then the Stinger GT in RWD or AWD would be my choice.
Just bought a K5 GT and still waiting for them to figure out the Kia Connect....According to the dealer its a known thing. Not pleased at all considering the money they want to keep adding on
Like the car dont love it. Some of the trim on this car looks cheap and doesn't quite go together. For instance, the chrome trim around the window should be blacked out. The front grill has those funky triangular parts on the front edges 😖 they should also be blacked out as a part of the grill. The back also has some triangular sharp edge trim that seems like it was added for no apparent reason. Im not really feeling those wheels either. That being said I can appreciate the interior even with the lime green trim and the overall shape of the car looks better than a Camry or accord. All of this is just my personal opinion and subjective. I'd still take this over the sonata, camry, and accord. Excellent review by the way. 👍🏾
@porfiriato84 yeah if I would have get the k5 gt I would forgo the gt1 package. That's just me or just get the k5 gt line with the gt line package and keep it at or below 35k

Yes, it's a different display panel, and has round sport gauges option, with color selection.

Wish they kept the analog round gauges for speedo and tach

Yeah! They missed on that for sure.
could the traction issue be completely mitigated with expensive sticky summer tires?
The GT line is probably the best value because it has AWD as an option and it’s the only trim that has it. The other trims are FWD only
I like the AWD GT Line. My preference. Thanks for tuning in.
The GT is nice but i like the sister sonata way better, i own the 24 N-Line love it amazing car!
They did make the same in a AWD version GT I got lucky on mine
I wonder if the gt line with premium package has the same features
Does not.
does it have ambient lighting? kia website says “ led interior lighting”
no maybe next year they will add it and awd and different interior color choices
Interior lighting means the overhead lights, on the doors etc. Ambient lighting is the lighted strips on the dash.
No ambient lighting like in the Korean spec is such an unfortunate cost saving measure, great review though!
