The effects of Communist parties rebranding as Social Democrats in Europe has been miserable, frankly. Firstly they cannot refrain from wholely abandoning principles and traditional policy goals in fact, because they have to bend over backwards to be taken seriously as no longer Communists, so they became more Blairite than the Blairites (the Democratic Left in the UK was already fully Blairite in 1988, long before Tony Blair became leader of the Labour party in 1995, facilitated by ex-Communists of DL), more neo-liberal than the liberals. And the effect, electorally was unimpressive, and actually contributed to the rise of rightwing populism because by abandoning their traditional policy ground and working class constituency, they left working class electors demoralised and feeling abandoned and betrayed by the left, and in effect denied a real left alternative to the prevailing finacialisation and globalisation agenda. What has had to be learned through painful failure and disillusionment is that what can be done and has to be done because the social democrats, per se, including the ex-Stalinist social democrats abandoned traditional social democratic policy principles and goals, is that leftists must move into that electoral space, but without abandoning their anti-capitalist and anti-system analysis and goals, and make the centre-left at least democratic socialist, if not radical socialist, rather than the other way around. The logic of compromise is relentless - enough is never enough and eventually everything has to be forsaken. So communists becoming social democrats means becoming neo-liberals and imperialists. Instead European Marxists and anti-capitalists are trying to seize the left of centre electoral niche, which is the easy majority niche at this point, but to move it and society as a whole leftwards, not the reverse. It is a move driven by clear eyed class analysis and intentionality, not opportunism or so-called pragmatism, which is just moral cowardice and vacuity, of people applying their anti-capitalist perspective, not forswearing it.

Social Democrats have never been Communists. Communists have long been critical of the ineptitude of Social Democracy, just read Marx's "Critique of the Gotha Programme." Social Democrats have never advocated power be seized by the working class and the centers of the economy (the banks, factories, resources, and other means of production) be placed in the hands of the proletariat and operated rationally on behalf of the working masses. Social Democracy has only asked for better benefits and limited democratic input by the workers. And the Left has also been heavily infiltrated by utopians, Ultra-Left Adventurists, Trotskyites, Anarchists, RadLibs and others who are not always sympathetic to the cause of the international working class.

Wont say a word about atrocities next door to him in Kashmir on the Pandits and their forced exodus when he was right there in Delhi like says in 1990. Also, on Taliban and their barbaric atrocities on their own Afghan people, exp Women. No, Vijay is conveniently blind to that :) :) ... but singles out one Mosque that a Mughal Invader built on the birthplace of the main Hindu God - Ram!! Try to look at the bigger picture of how Vijay is seeing it. India is practically the poorest country in the world with more than half of the people would go hungry everyday and 300 million are illiterate. Too many slums with those conditions of living that are totally unhealthy and undignified. With less than 1 % is super rich and the rest is struggling, in such a scenario, communism is the only answer to save India.
Communism is not a dirty word, it’s just a system of governance that suits the poorest of the poor. The meaning of communism comes from communal, sharing. It’s a system of sharing wealth, everyone is entitled to have what the next person is having. Communism guaranteed a job for every man, a house for every man. Education for every child. For someone who is poor, even the simplest low paying job and a simple home is better than living in a slum. May sound like a dream impossible to achieve given the current situation in India today.
India needs someone who has the social standing like a Jawaharlal Nehru or a Gandhi to galvanise the people to want a change for the better. Someone who is dedicated and motivated to govern India and to introduce reforms in such a drastic manner but in the long run, it’s worth it. May take decades to educate the people, to readjust their mindset into accepting that everyone is equal , no more caste system. The poor would like that.
Communism saves China. From those days of Mao Zedong to the present, China has came a long way, gone thru years of decay, untold sufferings, hunger, famines, to what it’s today, rich, peaceful and powerful.
The beginning wasn’t easy, but the people were willing to toil, work hard, gave up their personal rights for the betterment of progress, in return, everyone has a job, entitled to a public home, rural poor farmers were allotted lands. That’s communism. If China can do it, why not India too.

Frankly speaking, Vijay is a very impressive orator and has the ability to bring about change in the society for good. But ironically, the party that he has been associated with didn't show any kind of positive change in the society when it was in power in WB and elsewhere. In fact, it did exactly what he blames the other parties of. See, Communism is a natural consequence of what Capitalism or any other '-ism' does to the society after staying for a longer period. The fact that 'communism' working under a certain party banner fails its ulterior motive and ends up the society in ruins and makes it hostile. There is something so tragic about the whole 'Communism' thing( I mean the party or whatever association or union they form to support their cause, not the cause itself). They fail to acknowledge that there will remain disparity regardless of what they think or do because of the human nature and that's how the natural laws work as well (not that it cannot be dismantled but it only brings instability and havoc). The 'feeling of communism' should come from within everyone, seperately, for their fellow beings and not from a party's agenda or perspective shoveled upon their throats and minds. Their 'Communism' in itself is a religion in reverse. One of my personal fav. quote of Nietzsche, out of nowhere but applies here perfectly, is "In truth, there was only one true Christian and he died on the Cross". The change that they want to see in the society must come people's own conscience and that they mustn't push their agendas so hard on people and society, else there will be rise in crime rates, murders, hatred and whatever animals humanity have suppressed within itself from the dawn of civilization. I hope Vijay bring some good change in and around the political and social system in India. My best wishes to him☺️.

    • @itzenormous
      @itzenormous 2 года назад +1

No Communist ever suggested, as you said, that 'disparities will not exist." Of course disparities exist, that is the case in the modern world, that is how the world has been organized ... to this point. These divergences are not, as you suggest - the result of "human nature." Humans don't actually have an inherent nature, friend. Human beings are a blank slate on which the realities of the modern world are drawn. We are products of our own environment. Maybe we, at some point previous, have heard the stories of the boys who were raised by wolves? And after growing up, and developing, in the company of wolves, the boys exibited all of the characteristics of wolves. Such a case, in itself, demolishes the concept of human nature.
You are making the case, here, that there should be no community, and that everyone is simply an 'individual.' But, we all know, that human beings live in communities and have evolved within community. Of course, I don't believe that anyone can or should be coerced to accept someone's agenda; but if the people within a given party are honest actors, then they represent only the agenda of the masses of people. I don't know how it is in India, I have never been there. But, in the West, the forces that compromise the wider "Left" (if we can call it that) are dishonest actors. They ARE controlled, in many instances, by the wealthiest factions of society, and they represent the agendas of Post Modernists and the very bourgeois class that they claim to despise. Far too many of them place far too much emphasis on changing the broader culture; but culture is a set of social mores and values that have to develop on their own, over time. The only circumstances that can be changed, and should be changed, are the ones that have resulted in the masses of people slaving away to enrich a class of people that does not work, and produces no real value. Once these circumstances are changed, for the better, then - I believe - the culture will catch up, over time, entirely on its own.

So, we might all have the same understanding of Communism at some point, whatever Communism means, but it will not happen until it is ready to happen and must happen ... i.e. the reason I watched your video is the insertion of the term "necessity". I have seen people around me completely transform themselves from owning a renting apartments to owning cars and being able to afford healthcare from all strata of life. Indian lives have become much better since 1991 and so has the number of riots decreased. Socialists that he looks so excitedly towards had the exact same people he describe. His arguments fall flat in the face with regards to the realities of modern India. Socialist India was equal because everyone was equally and pitifully poor. They go out of their way to defend China and to encourage the destruction of the world to feed their blood lust behind the veneer of intellectualism and compassion. And those "proletariats" in Hindi speaking areas speak English as well or better than I do.

The government, the political parties, the media, and the police are all parts of a state that is run exclusively by capitalists for capitalists. It has always been a tool of exploitation and will be until it is destroyed. George Washington, Franklin Roosevelt, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden are all members of the same class. Similar case in India with BJP, Congress, CPM, CPI(M), CPI(ML), AAP, so on and so forth....
Capitalism is a mode of economic production built on putting limitless growth and maximizing profits over the wellbeing of people and nature. It is by far the primary force of climate disruption and habitat destruction. The only way to stop the ecological disaster is to replace capitalism with a sustainable mode of production that puts people and nature first.
The wealth and comfort that even working-class Americans or Europeans or Scandinavians enjoy is extracted from colonized peoples across the globe. Look up _Stealing Africa_ doc on RUclips for example!
This includes medicare and all other social safety nets. Their student loans, tax breaks, and subsidies in addition to the massive profits of billionaires are stolen from workers in the rest of the word. This extraction destroys people’s lives and the environment through war, pollution, and deforestation. Medicare for all, cancelling student debt, legalizing marijuana, the green new deal, and taxing the rich would not change this reality. Bernie Sanders or any other SocDem/DemSoc politician is not against imperialism, he or she’s just ok with using it to benefit workers domestically.
Activists and leftists need to de-center themselves, give up their comfort, and support the liberation of black and brown working people everywhere in order to achieve true justice. The resources and value that have been extracted from black and brown folks over the centuries must be returned, even as people in the western and northern most hemisphere take a hit to their standard of living.
Historically, racism was harnessed and developed by the emerging capitalist class to justify imperialism and colonialism. Likewise, different forms of sexism and patriarchy were also developed and cultivated by the capitalist class to place the burden of further unpaid labor and production on the shoulders of women. These social evils support capitalism and simultaneously are perpetuated by it. They must all be destroyed together purposefully in revolution.
The imperial capitalist state machinery cannot be used to bring about this liberation or reverse the harm being done to the planet. This has been demonstrated historically countless times by the failures of reformism and “social democrats.” The only movements that have begun to come close to succeeding at this have been those rooted in the living tradition of Marxism-Leninism.
Voting for the “lesser evil” as “harm reduction” simply allows the exploitation of the global south and internally colonized people to continue. Harm reduction for whom? It also legitimizes the settler-colonial state’s clam to this stolen land and to control over the rest of the globe.
There is no end to perpetual capitalist violence except by meeting it with violence sufficient to stamp it out for all eternity, with the goal of achieving lasting peace and harmony.
Please read Marx and Engels, Lenin, Luxemburg, Gramsci, Connolly, Stalin, Kollontai, Mao, Castro, Guevarra, the Black Panthers, Sankara, Fannon, Althusser, Federici, and others. Discuss them, Learn from them, Criticize them, Apply them in struggles to unify and organize your communities against imperial capitalism!
