Love that pneumatic press! I have a family tradition where I get persimmon fruit and make cookies every winter but I always have a lot of extra fruit that's always wanted to make a wine but it's so difficult to get the juice from persimmons. You just gave me an awesome idea thank you sir cheers!

Another great video George!!! I'll definitely be building one of these presses. I watched as I was making a mash and as I was standing there going through the sparge and trying to get every bit of fermentable sugar out of my grains, a lightbulb went off... since I'm using a brew bag, what's your opinion of using the diy fruit press to press the water and sugars out of my grain?

Awesome idea! I would put a sturdy false bottom in there. And stack a couple innertubes that are connected together with an airline so you dont have to keep adjusting your press. Stick a gauge on that so you know your not over inflating and good to go!

I follow your videos avidly in the UK they are brilliant. I wish to build a still, I have a keg i can use for the boil. Have you or can you post a video on how to set / build one please also how it works as i think you have to dump the first runnings.
    thanks in advance Mick Bates

Mick, this is a simple process, not much to it at all. There are no secrets to making a still or running one. Our videos should come in handy when you decide to make one.
      Good luck.

Use a 5 gallon paint strainer bag to put fruit in to keep your baffle from getting clogged. Grind apples with a blender or even a meat grinder first.

I have been having a hard time pulling what I assume is hydrogen sulfide out of some brandy. It smells like sulfer and has a lingering bite in your nose. It tastes fine just has an off putting oder. My grocery store had 7 gallons of chardonnay on sale that I ran through a pot still. I assume this is from the sulfides in the commercial wine. Any advice?

    • @BarleyandHopsBrewing
      @BarleyandHopsBrewing  5 лет назад +1

It could be anything and more likely nothing that you did or failed to do. Try a little glycerin (or glycerol) to see if that will smooth it out. The dosage is 2 oz per gallon as a start. You can find it in the medicine isle of your local grocery store. It is an animal based product that is completely safe to ingest. Most moonshiners use it as smoothing agent and aging catalyst but they won't admit to it. I use it in almost every run I do now. You can add more than the 2 oz until it smooths out.Let me know if this helps.😀

Hey George fng here in the ways of making corn squeezins & such.
Your channel is awesome I get a lot from it it’s priceless.
    HOWEVER
You could have cut 10 min off this video to explain your device.
Realistically 4 min would leave you a cushion. Constructive criticism nothing personal but there’s a saying “ounces = pounds, pounds=pain.
But it’s like you like the camera & the sound of your own voice. Listening to how you describe how to cut a circle was like your teaching 3rd graders.
I know I’m a dick I don’t need to listen or be here if I don’t like it.
The thing is I like it & get a lot from it & I got nothing but respect for your knowledge, sharing & teaching. But hell I need to get to brewing & implementing the contents I learn here I’m sure your audience that takes on endeavors has lots of life’s experiences & can figure out how to cut a circle & leave a1/16 all the way around by saying just that & nothing more w/o the whole carpentry lesson.
    Not trying to offend
Love the channel its wealth of knowledge but cmon you could’ve explained this in 4-5 min.

I see your point. But, sometimes a tip or trick, however unrelated to the original post, pays dividends for anyone not so capable. Personally, I would have loved to see the inside. To see how it's all stacked together. I can figure that out myself, but it would have been nice to have a reference.
George, your great! Your style and the way you are excited about what you do shows. It is the reason why I watch your videos. You touch on a little of everything for the expert to the novice so we all learn a little something. Never give up and keep it coming!

Barley and Hops Brewing absolutely with the tips & tricks. I was doing some thinking about instructional content. Now this is totally a different topic but broken arms/broken armory has a video on milling an at-15 lower receiver from an 80% er using their tooling jig. “Mike” that does the video is very good about explaining technical parts with a good amount of personality staying on topic & he moves his instruction along @ a good pace. He also makes himself available for q&a. The video is worth watching for the instructional content as well as the way it’s delivered.
Thanks again looking forward to more from B&H
