- A "playthrough" of Nintendo's 1993 creativity/art game for the Super NES, Mario Paint.
Since Mario Paint isn't a game, I'm not sure if I should call this a playthrough or a demonstration. Oh well, whatever. I loved it to death as a kid.
So, this was an interesting challenge to myself, and I think it came out fairly well. I wanted to see how easy/difficult it would be to recreate the intro to the original Ninja Gaiden game with Mario Paint.
After going through the fun things on the title screen, the game is sped up to 4X the original speed at which I played. It shows me going through drawing, coloring, and animating (nearly) all of the pieces of the Ninja Gaiden recreation, just at hyper speed. Because of how the sound distorts when sped up, I stripped the original audio and replaced it with the regular music from the game. Otherwise you'd be reaching for the mute button within about 3 seconds.
If you haven't played this is awhile, it's amazing how immediately you realize the improvements in mice over the past 25 years. It can be painful trying to move the cursor to hit one or two pixels with an old roller-ball mouse!
I do play the fly-swatting game at one point.
The final product (of what in real-time was about 3-4 hours total worth of work) can be seen at 36:12. For the sake of comparison for sound, I matched the Mario Paint visuals up with the NES music for the first half of the intro - then I subject you to the most horrendous rendition of the intro music's second half after that. I didn't use Mario Paint composer - I used actual Mario Paint, so it was painful getting it to even the point where it was recognizable. I did have fun with the obnoxious drum sound though :D

Mario Paint is a pretty awesome creativity tool - I got a real blast out of remaking the Ninja Gaiden cinematic with this.
+NintendoComplete If _Mario Paint_ has 41,664 dots available (judging from page 112 of the Mario Paint Player's Guide), and 15 different colors to choose from, then did you know that there are a total of one duovigintillion, nine-hundred seventy-eight unvigintillion, eight-hundred fifty-seven vigintillion, one-hundred twenty-one novemdecillion, nine-hundred seventy-nine octodecillion, four-hundred ten septendecillion different possible images to create on a single page? That's a lot, eh? Just though I'd tell ya.
There are three things I wish:
1. If Nintendo of America didn't have that stupid censorship policy
2. If the SNES-CD was released
3. If the N64 was on CD format
Ryan Kelly Huh, that sounds sufficiently more impressive that 1.21 gigawatts, that's for sure. But just to make sure, are you an American or a Brit? A vigintillion means totally different numbers depending on which country you're in :)

*1)* I've loved Ninja Gaiden 1 on NES since I was a small child. Why else would I get the entire NES trilogy for Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console?
*2)* Since I'm due to receive the Hyperkin SupaBoy; A portable SNES, soon, I wonder about getting Super Mario Paint for it & trying my hand.
Or I could just make a parody in Gacha Club
I'm surprised we didn't get a Mario Paint title for the Wii U. The stylus and the touch screen would have been awesome tools for this!

I'm pretty sure you got Art Academy or something like that on the Wii U, which was basically the same thing (the drawing part at least). And wasn't there some kind of flipbook application too, which would have meant a bit of animation as well.
Probably would've been a pain in the ass to port lol

I remember having Mario Paint for my SNES and playing it with my brother during the SNES era. We could and would only draw simple things as we didn't have that much creativity.
We liked composing music and killing mosquitos instead. I still find this game to be a very significant part of my childhood. Nintendo really hit a homerun with this game back in the day.

NintendoComplete no problem, this game was my childhood, even with a mouse with no trackball lol I was creative enough to figure out how to get the thing to work! It sucked but I was so determined from age 6-9 when we finally replaced the mouse and also a bonus mouse pad... my mom gave the snes with the game to my cousin... and that was my childhood leaving me overseas.

Wait, so you could make animations using this??? That's mind-blowing considering we're talking about the SNES. I had like 6 games only lol maybe that's why.
This blew me away at how in depth this REALLY was... and here I was playing the coloring book and killing flies.
The recreation was very cool, definitely makes me want to try this game out

Did you ever see what Mike Matei of Cinemassacre did with Mario Paint? He recreated the full, animated intro from the 80's TMNT cartoon.
I got this an hour ago at my local second-handed video game store.
This was one of my first games as a kid, played the heck out of the music mode and fly swatter game.
I like how you can drag the character to make it look like it moves.
Mario Paint is an all in one educational software.

There should be a 3D Mariopaint (maybe MarioModeler?) for the Wii U or NX.
The N64 had that, but only in japan, for the 64DD.
I would label this "Gameplay" not "Playthrough" but it's your channel. I don't care :P. I still got the mouse,pad and two copies of the game. Still enjoy making shitty cartoons and trying to draw on it. IMPRESSIVE NG intro! everything is accurate. how long did that take you?
Yeah the only reason why its playtrhough is for consistency with my other vids :) it really is amazing how much fun it still is!
fair enough. Very innovative for it's time indeed. I remember a friend and I rented this game alot and made stupid shit and shocked my mom by making a short porn. If you take that smiley face and place it on the bottom in music making it sounds like a moaning chick. So.... yeah, we were class A pervs :).
