Well I cant comment on the other two rigs but my 13 PW (odd year bc it has 5.7 and is last year w 4:56s, rear leafs and first year w the 6 speed trans. and the 14+ interior) and has been dead nails for 170k. It does have a host of goodies like factory cold air, bypass locker kit, all Thuren suspention parts and 2.5 kings w 37s. (and yes she will burn em) The big girl has done Sherman Jeep trail, Gold Mountain, and a host of other trails that not many full size rids want any part of. Plus w the Thuren and kings the PW is a pretty decent Pismo sand toy. YES, i do wish for an additional 200 hp but as she sits now she does not tow anything and although its not fast it is far from slow.
With that being said i do have Hellcat and Coyote power envy🤣
    GREAT channel guys.

6.4 powerstroke can be a great engine if taken care of properly. If abused in stock trim (egr/dpf) or hot rodded with a crazy tune it won’t last. Deleted with a basic or custom tow tune with minimal timing changes and driven like it’s supposed to be driven, it’ll last a long time. There’s plenty that’s hit 350k-450k miles on the original engine. When that engine first came out most people didn’t understand the regen process and coolant servicing then the list of issues started

I think to imply that the 5.7 Hemi is gutless and makes the truck unable to get out of its own way is selling it incredibly short. While the 5.7 5 speed combo is not optimal for that truck, it’s still putting down quite a bit more horsepower and torque than it’s competitors of that era save for the 6.8 V10 from Ford. I agree that while the 6.4 with an 8 speed is better suited for a vehicle that heavy, the 6.4 literally only makes 29 more ft.lbs of torque. The 5.7 Hemi engine is fine, it should instead be a critique of how trash the transmissions in ALL of the HDs used to be. I’ve owned all of the big three trucks at one point or another so not a Ram fanboy, just my $.02

It’s sad that Navistar intentionally under engineered the 6.4 for Ford. They were being sued by Ford at the time for the problems that they were having with the 6.0 trying to get Navistar to pay for all of the warranty replacements that Ford was having on them. Navistar obviously didn’t want to pay due to the high costs, and didn’t have the budget (nor motivation) when designing the 6.4, due to the litigation costs. Hence they split ways after the 6.4 and Ford designed the 6.7 in house

    • @backroadseeker08

That's a rather single sided version of the story. Ford rushed the 6.0 to market with the 7.3 being phased out due to emissions, and was at the design table for both engines. Neither were simply Navistar engines that Ford just chucked into their trucks.

Ford screwed up both the 6.0 and 6.4. Both of the engines were designed for what was originally intended and proven to work well with not nearly the issues they had in the Fords compared to the International versions. The VT365 and Maxxforce 7 were not known for the failures. As stated, the issues were caused by ford rushing or trying to change designs too rapidly when the product was already being pushed out. It wasn’t International’s fault, it was Ford’s.

We had a 2003 ram 2500 5.7l hemi magnum. Sold it with almost 250k miles. I miss that truck, I wouldn’t have hesitated to run it accross the country and back. Still had the original never rebuilt transmission also that had no issues, and was used to haul a 5th wheel camper before we got it then we hauled a gooseneck Horne trailer with furnished living quarters all over the state. Truck never left me stranded, and would still light the tires up when we sold it.

PW would be my choice! HP is for speed and this is an off-road beast that doesn't need to go fast. Besides that, an engine swap or some upgrades could easily turn the PW into a formidable truck. IMHO

And the 6.4 didn't come out until 2014 model years. A lot of guys love their 5.7 power wagons. I really like my 2017 so I'm pretty much sold on the 6.4 hemi.

This being a 2010 means its got the Gen III .5 Eagle motor. S7 E3 Dave and the Steves on Engine Masters made 498.5 HP with just a cam swap. And I've seen even more gains using the exact same cam specs, with upgraded springs and valve relieved pistons. As for the I6, yes they lost to cylinders, but in the best way. The I6 is a zero compromises engine. They sound great, have lots of power, and forgo every single engineering compensation because NONE are needed.

I have to say, "Bullet Proofing" a 6.0 PS is kind of a joke. Because you're not talking a simple fix like the KDP, you're talking a complete engine rebuild to do the bullet proofing, and even then they really can't do much on power adders. The However, the proper repair for a 6.4 PS is to replace it with a contemporary Cummins.

Small issues here and there but has always been reliable even as my main tow rig hauling horses in a 3 horse steel trailer weighing around 12,000 lbs loaded and tows way better than my 2018 F250. Skipping routine maintenance is the problem with all 3 of those trucks....people buy these types of vehicles to show off to their friends and family about how much money they thought they had, but don't have any brains...and the first thing they do is skip the regular oil/filter changes because they think it costs too much and well, you end up with the trucks at the auction that aren't running worth a damn as a result.
