- In the early days of the west, the peaceful town of Sniddler's Gulch was threatened by one of the meanest desperados of all time: Cowboy X, a man who left his mark everywhere.
--Taken from episode 2424
The voice-over actor and narrator is the late, great, Jean Shepherd (Writer, narrator and actor of "A Christmas Story").
I was just listening to one of his old WOR-New York 1973 radio shows and he mentioned that he played "Cowboy X" on Sesame Street, so I had to look this up. That voice is unmistakable!
“The citizens of Sniddler’s Gulch lived happily ever after, because they really weren’t very smart.” LOL
I loved this as a kid. I recently found out that this was voiced by Jean Shepherd, the man who wrote "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash," which went on to inspire the movie, "A Christmas Story" (one of my all time favorites).
You just blew my mind! I thought of this cartoon with the recent renaming of Twitter.
He was also the narrator of A Christmas Story, as well as its two (real) sequels It Runs In The Family (a.k.a. My Summer Story) and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss!
I knew that voice sounded familiar!
When I was a child, I didn't appreciate one of the lines as much as I do now. The line I find very funny is at the end: "And the citizens of Sniddler's Gulch loved happily ever after because they really weren't very smart." Hilarious !
I meant "lived happily ever after" .
Yeah!! Those are harsh words saying that a town's population is dumb.
The Twitter rebrand to X reminded me of this Sesame Street clip 🤣
That's what brought me here too!
X marks the spot
X stands for twitter
This clip took me way back in the day when Sesame Street in it's prime and a hour long show too!!
I'm a 70's Sesame Street fan myself.
Probably my absolute favourite cartoon from Sesame Street. Still cracks me up at 43!
Written and narrated by Jean Shepherd, AKA the writer and narrator of A Christmas Story.
this took me back to when i was 7 years old and in a happy time of simplistic bliss (good was good, evil was evil, lies were abhored, failing grades meant trouble for the student not the teacher) thanks for uploading; as a former resident of Sniddlers gulch im grateful! X..X.... yeah X!!!!
And the citizens of Sniddler's Gulch lived happily ever after... because the kid afterwards decided to take his official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle and blow Cowboy X away.
RIP Jean Shepherd
He probably got a C+ for his effort.
I had forgotten about this short! Thanks so much for uploading it. I love the artwork and hilarious acting. It seems silly, but like most good children's cartoons, there's something resonant in there.
I'll say they really weren't very Smart. I love that Line at The End. Instead, the People should've told that Cowboy not to put any Letters
Elon, is that you??
Is this the reason why Elon Musk changed Twitter to X?!?
This was X rated!
VERY funny... 😖
Yeah and later on, it was O rated.
...before it became Type O
LOL
Superb example 1970's Sesame Street creativity!
“And the red states of ‘Merica lived happily ever after because they really weren’t very smart.”🤪
In my country, politicians are just like Cowboy X. Leaving their initials, designed into every project they build: streetlamps, bus stops, basketball courts, you name it.
Social media sites... well, not a politician, but a billionaire. Welcome to X, formerly known as Twitter!
I had no idea that was the same guy who narrated A Christmas Story.
Apparently he wrote the original story as well.
Akira625 yup his name is Jean Shepherd. Passed away on 10/16/99 at age 78 from natural causes.
Must’ve been designed by either Paul Kim and Lew Gifford (Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla, Electricity, Sufferin’ Till Suffrage, Elbow Room, No More Kings and Drawing Power cartoonists) or the obscure Bob Eggers from Schoolhouse Rock, who did The Four Legged Zoo
This takes me back to when I could spend each weekday enjoying segments like this on Sesame street as well as my other favorite kid shows. I was able to escape from reality for a while and feel like anything was possible.
Jean Shepherd did voiceovers for commercials on TV and radio, too.
Don't forget adult Ralphie's narration in A Christmas Story"
Someone else mentioned a Keebler Elf. It already blew my mind when someone pointed out this was him earlier, and that really did it.
COWBOY X IS A SUBLIMINAL SYMBOLIC CODED MESSAGE THAT MEANS GENERATION-X ! ! !👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cowboy X:Never again will I leave an X on Sniddler's Gulch. I'm doing O's now!
What are the townspeople gonna say?
"Daffy Doodles!"
@@harrystoller4147 O no!!
Whoo hoo, hoo hoo, hoo hoo!
Here comes cowboy x now!!!!!😂😂😂😂
Since the writer and narrator was Jean Shepherd, would this also be known as "A X MAS STORY?" ;D
Hadn't seen this since I was a kid. Can't stop laughing. 😂😂😂
This is from Sesame Street Letters CD-ROM (1994)
0:22 X’s on the Horses Butt
OMG it's Elon Musk! Run!
Just before the end, when Cowboy X changes his name to Cowboy O, I always knew it was supposed to be a reference to tick-tack-toe.
Or hugs and kisses.
In my country, politicians are just like Cowboy X. Leaving their initials, designed into every project they build: streetlamps, bus stops, basketball courts, you name it. They'll do anything you get reelected.
He stopped marking X's on the whole town but he replaced his stamp with an O and began marking it everywhere he goes.
This is classic sesame street. I was about 5 or 6 years old when this came out
Liked kids seeing this. It showed that, kids have ideas also.
Cowboy X is hilarious!
Kurt Kauffman And then he turned into "Cowboy O"! Too bad there wasn't another cowboy named "Cowboy O"; they could have faced off in a duel of tic-tac-toe (or invented it) and left a lasting legacy in the town!
+Thomas Lauffenberger : One 1990s episode of _Sesame Street_ turned Cowboy X and Cowboy O into rival Muppets, identical except for the letters on their hats. Each was determined to vandalize the street with his "mark"; the cowboys created a major nuisance until some live-action characters (I forget which) taught X and O to cooperate by playing tic-tac-toe in a few limited spots.
America = Siggler's Gulch
Trump = Cowboy X
Biden = Cowboy O
Turns out it was Elon Musk all along...
THAT WAS 'X'-CELLENT ! ! !👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jean Shepherd!
That's right. The same guy who voiced adult Ralphie's narration in A Christmas Story.
@@tpirman1982 And wrote the original stories!
Just give Cowboy X an official Red-Ryder 200-shot Carbine Action Range Model Air Rifle, and let him shoot his own eye out.
Cowboy X is for us Generation X'ers.
I Think The 'X' In 'Cowboy X' Is Referring To Generation-X! 'X' Means Generation-X! That's That Mystery Solved!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I watched this as a child, and grew up to become a prolific graffiti artist and my moniker was …you guessdd it: Cowboy-X. I tagged cowboy x everywhere in my town. I eventually got arrested and did 4 months in juvey along with 2000 hours community service painting over graffiti, and $125,000.00 in fines. I finally paid off at age 50. Lol true story.
This guy needs to be hauled away in a net!
*JUMP, JUMP, JUMP! YIPPE X!!! SCRRRRRREEEEEAAAAAM! YYYYYYYIIIIIIPEEEE!*
Where's Sigman Freud when you need him?
0:50 that's the same sound used in the Paramount Cartoons.
Cowboy X/O, World Champion Tic Tac Toe player
Yep......That's where we got our name.....
Now what are they gonna do about cowboy O?
LOL! I remember this one!
Voice by jean Shepherd
Treehouse: ABC Classics (2023)
Pororo the Little Penguin
Tayo the Little Bus
Robocar Poli
Vroomiz
Oops Ikooo
Chiro and Friends
yeah!! cowboy x!
COWBOY X IS 'X'TANT ! ! !👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
0:44 Either that woman's voiced by a guy...or she's a very heavy smoker XD
LOL!
Como de cojones have I ever found this after around 45 years? I dunno. But remember every word like yesterday.
Ah, but did he shoot his eye out while doing it?
He has to be stopped!!!!
Looks like the old Mr.Bubble animated skit.
I remember this when I
Was in kindergarten
Classic 👍
Tic Tac Dough!!
The narrator sounds a lot like Adam West
Yep. But it's actually Jean Sheperd, if you've seen A Christmas Story. The guy wrote it, and was the adult Ralphie narrator.
Sound familiar?
Desperado means that this Cowboy X is a bad guy or villain
Why doesn’t he get a job on The Hollywood Squares?
Kinda reminds me of Hollywood Squares!!
I think Cowboy X would be perfect to mark the Xs and Os onto the board in the appropriate squares when each X and O are earned by the contestants. I could say the same for another game show: Tic Tac Dough.
so, this is where Hugh Hefner got his inspiration...
I remember this
The first graffiti artist
This may have been inspired by Blazing Saddles?
Now Cowboy X is on X (lol)!
He stopped makng X marks all right, but instead he replaced them with O's and left Sniddler's Gulch with same results.
Eric Etorne6979 and got a job on The Hollywood Squares! Paul Lynde complained each and every time he came to his square when Mr. X got the question correct.
Then Oscar The Grouch approached Peter Marshall later and explained why he made the grid malfunction and put that joker on the program. Peter showed Oscar the door!
Well apparently they didn't care. Because they weren't very smart
Letter x yeehaw!
Cowboys X will you stop marking X's all over our town?
Wonder if any western historians or those who produced the old western films and TV shows or even starred in them ever had the chance to see this or even the SS Muppet ones?
The corporate suits are vandalizing my tv screen with their stupid logos.
So cute. Reminds me of graffiti artists.
Cowboy x
This is most of us today with political affiliation. 😆
XxxxXxX. Or ooooo cow boi oooooooo yeeeeeeepppyyyy
Anyone wanna play o and x??
