All the Camcorders I’ve had featured viewfinders, strange to not see one. I had an image of you being damaged when Fay sees that! Looking forward to your Japan videos!
same for many years then it changed. the old style used to sometimes be an issue if you got a bigger battery so thats one advantage. Its sad to see a man lose the will to live D

Next year sounds wise. we don't know what to do for the best. our flight has a short stop in South Korea which adds more complexity, if Japan decides to close its doors as the virus is taking off there. I actually gasped when he said that about my filming!! so rude :D

Hi Colin. If you go into Record Setup page 4 of 6, I think you must have Video Light set to On. Hopefully that sorts it
Great camera review! Have you thought about a mirrorless camera, or are you not wanting to mess with lenses? They can be quite the hassle sometimes!
We are a bit point and press with our cameras :D only got so much tolerance for fiddling :) Dan likes the 20 x zoom and low light features on a camcorder and obviously we are old school being.. well old :D

Hi. We use the Rode VideoMicro microphone, but that's now been upgraded to a version 2. Looks like it would still fit though. The microphone on the camcorder is great for all round sound, but it you want to pick up voices directly in front, you'll need something like this.
Hi there great video. Could you possibly link the adaptor you mentioned for it to run from without a battery, I've looked everywhere and can't find it 😂 looking to purchase one of these soon
Hi Rob. You can certainly plug the power connection into the camcorder and record (or play) even if the battery is flat. I think you'd have to have the battery attached, but I'm not 100% sure.

What is the latest version of the camera software? Is it possible to add an exposure meter?
I believe the camera version depends on where you are in the world, so can't comment. As for exposure meter, u believe there's some kind of basic one built in, but I've never used it. I don't think you could add one though.

It might be the SD card slot possibly? Just press it back in, and it should be okay.

They still make this it seems. Peter Jones sells it for almost £600, whereas Wex digital seem to sell it for under £300. Still scratching my head and wondering if same model.

An upgrade from the VX870 in what ways specifically? I looked over the manuals and spec sheets and they look 1:1 identical in every single way.
It's the next years model. It has a new wireless multi camera. possibly 4k cropping is new. that might be it :) it was a personal upgrade as the old one was was dying.
I have been using it for 3 years now, the touch screen is stuck MNL and cannot be used through the touch screen at all. Buy online abroad Panasonic Center Thailand does not accept repairs.
Sorry to hear that :( our cameras often die at the 3-5 year marker unfortunately.
Do you know if this camera has clean HDMI out? e.g Can you turn off all screen graphics when connected to a pc / TV via the HDMI out? I can't find a definite answer via the Panasonic website or elsewhere.
Hi Sam. It's not functionality that I've used myself, as I download everything onto a computer, but I do believe you can set it to hide the onscreen information as per this page in the manual;

' I'm afraid the camcorder will not have a clean HDMI output . I'm really sorry. What you can do to disable as many icons as possible for the output will be the following settings :
Make sure to access the camcorder's MENU --> SETUP --> EXT. DISPLAY and you can set it to OFF. '
Can it record with the display screen closed as do some lower models of Panasonic camcorders do?
I don't believe so. Opening the display screen is what turns the camera on. Also, you don't have a viewfinder, so you wouldn't see what you were filming!
I found it in the user manual (page 19 Turning the unite On/Off). There is a power button on the camera that you do it with. Usually you would set up the shot before doing so, so you know what you are filming. @@FayandDanExplore

Is it a new camera? have you tried disconnecting the battery and then putting it back in, the computer might have crashed. clean screen I assume?

Sorry to hear this. I've been using Panasonic camcorders for many years, but haven't come across this problem before. So, is the camera not recording?
