    Great video! No off topic jokes of the day, no off topic animations and annoying sounds, just straight up golden info on the products being reviewed. This is exactly what I want in a review: High quality video shots, pleasant background music, easy to understand reviewer, loads of detailed info and straight to the point so i don't have to skip anything. Great job! I will subscribe for more of these quality reviews :)

    I'm building my first PC and I've been watching quite a few review videos on youtube for different parts, and I have to say that you guys presented the R5 perfectly, all the information was relevant to me and the build and sound tests were delightful surprises that I truly enjoyed and learned from. Thank you so much!

    Excellent review. The voice of the reviewer, Dmitri, while professional, wasn't too stiff or sounded like a salesperson. I especially loved the personal and honest comments made, for instance about rotating the hardware cages; "good luck handling all the wiring". Also loved the editing and music. I'll definitely be coming back to HardwareCanucks.

    This was with no doubt the best review of the FRACTAL DESIGN R5. Full marks for great presentation, and the final test build was the icing on the cake for this review. You made a really nice build, and sure FRACTAL would be happy to see it's product reviewed like this.

    Excellent review, great attention to detail. You're the first reviewer I've seen to actually show the front mounted radiator on this case as opposed to the more common top mounted option. Case silence is my main issue.

    Bought my first Fractal Design R1 many years ago, have built 3 computers with R1's and one with an R2. Its getting to that time where my friends are starting to think about new computers, Im stoked to see I can just get an R5!
    Really, they are built really well, you can tell whoever designed it actually knows what their doing. Good to see they've continually improved, done some things I noticed/wished for on b4, but some new ideas that surprised me and I think are neat.
    I dont usually gush, but I really do love these cases, you get a sweet spot of quality, quiet, performance, price. The versatility is what really puts it over the edge for me. At least IMHO

    What a review! With such amazingly careful attention to details, beautiful camera shots and video editing, and you summarize all these different aspects of the case so incredibly well in the conclusion. The whole review contains not a word of unnecessary trivia. You really are the best custom PC reviewer I have ever seen. But maybe try something with other custom PC related products? CPU/Graphic card/RAM/monitor/SSD? Really looking forward to more of your videos in the future!

    I just built my new computer with this case. I had the windowed version and I can confirm that the side panel window makes no difference when it comes to silence, consistent with Fractal Design's marketing that the windowed version adds a negligible amount of noise. The window is very thick, which definitely helps. It's a solid no-compromise option if you want to display your parts and silence at the same time.

    • @bobsmith5472

    Have been spending some month by now with my new RIG, of course based on the R5 chassi. I also got alot of help from this vid by choice of liquid cooling - of course the X61 kraken... This cooling absolutely is amazing, both in design and performance.
    Once again, this review rocks and the chassi is absolutely amazing.
    I have a hard time thinking of why any other chassi would ever be needed, except for future improved R5. However that may be... ;)

    I couldn't hear the computer over mine in the background! I love the look of this case and it seems really good. My current case isn't very spacious due to the lack of cable management options and it is noisy and gets really dusty. I was going to get the 750D but it might be out of my budget as I also intend to get an SSD with it and this case is so much cheaper with all I need. Nice review and thanks!

    What is need to fix in R5
    - front doors should open much more wide - still big fail (see Antec P280)
    - fan controller should be with small knob not steppy only with three settings, also should be two of them one for control front fans intake, and second for exhaust.
    - little too much flexible construction without both panels
    - 5.25 covers should not be rounded, it will be looks little bad after install 5.25 devices.
    - plastic motherboard standoffs.
    + best thing what they done in R5 is bottom dust filter removable to front - great job
    Overall very nice and queit case with a lot of improvments, but still not perfect.

    • @wistfulbreeze2025
      @wistfulbreeze2025 10 лет назад

      Tell me, for what reason would want the front door to open wider? What would that accomplish?

    • @PeterMacPL
      @PeterMacPL 10 лет назад +8

      For the safety (doors like this you can easy break by accident if your case stand on floor) also for better straight intake airflow for example in very hot days, this will give you always a option.

    • @wistfulbreeze2025
      @wistfulbreeze2025 10 лет назад +1

      ***** It wouldn't improve airflow at all on hot days and the door is probably sturdy enough since neither Linus nor Dimitry complained about it.

    • @Haksdo2
      @Haksdo2 10 лет назад +6

      ***** Well as for the door I think this is due to the dual hinge design that it isn't possible to open that wide. When given the choice of opening wider or the option to open it either way, I'd much rather have it open either way I want. And if you're scared of people walking into it then why would you leave it open all the time anyway? If you want more direct airflow, this case has an even better option then the P280: get the whole door off. To me the hinge door of the P280 feels a bit too flimsy as well. It's not horrible, but the Fractal door hinges feel much more sturdy.
      As for the cooling, that doesn't make sense. If the door is open, it is open. You won't get more air into the case when the door opens 170 degrees instead of the approximately 100 degrees of the R5. And like I mentioned before, with the R5 you can remove the door entirely if you'd want to.

    • @swesalpiraal7247
      @swesalpiraal7247 10 лет назад +2

      The door couldn't open any more because the door is recessed into the body of the case, which is clearly an effort to hide what would be ugly hings on the corners of the case. Fractal Design is about looks, and function, if I wanted an ugly case I would get a Cooler Master case.

    Realy good review! Shows everything we need to know.

  • @OneRedKraken
    @OneRedKraken 8 лет назад

    This is definitely close to the best case I ever owned. My biggest issue with it, is that some cool features like the mounting strips in the back for the 140mm fan. Why on earth did they not do this for their front fan sockets...!?
    Screwing in a 280mm radiator onto that front fan rack was a nightmare. Unless you forego 'front' fans, and install your radiator on the inside of your case with pull fan configuration, setup a push config is horrendous.
    You basically have to thread the fan, panel, and radiator with same screw. The fan isn't a problem, but trying to get the screw thread to bite into the radiator, right after it managed to go through the panel for the fans. Good luck, is all I'll say.
    Having RAILS would have solved the problem, as the screw only bites into the component on the other side, you dont' have to thread 2 things at the same time.
    Next maintenance I do on this system, I'm ditching the push/pull for the front rad, and will go with just pull. It's not as good performance wise, but it works better for servicing and not wanting to shoot yourself in the head.

    I was like: 'good case'. Until the mic test started, I jaw dropped when I heard the massive difference, this case blocks some serious noise. I am considering this case for when I have to move my PC to my bedroom, instead of going with premium fans and controllers I might just get a noise stopper like this one.

    I'd have to say that if you're not planning on running more than 2 GPUs, this is the best ATX on the market to date. Just WOW. It just does everything so well. I love the new drive cage/caddy design, improved modu-vents, simple front dust filter removal, and that slide-from-the-front bottom fan filter. The difficulty of removing and returning the bottom filter on the R4 was its biggest downside.
    It also has an astounding amount of watercooling support; it makes me want to build a system with the NZXT H220-X and get two water cooled cards in there, and that's coming from somebody who's not a water cooling guy. :)

    Very hard decision if I want to switch from my Carbide 500R. Silence and more dust filters feels really tempting :S

    Also they should have implemented what they did with the front door dapening to the top by having small side vents, that way a radiator could be mounted while still keeping the sound damps on and keeping things silent. Other than that every complaint I had about the R4 is solved with this case.

    Will have to choose between the R5 and the enthoo pro for my feb build, please pray for me. Enthoo has proper dust filters and case has more character IMO, while r5 is (seemingly) quieter and has a better io port location.

    Thanks for the review, really thorough and awesome! :) I was curious what those white SSD plates behind the MOBO were cuz I didn't find it in manual, your video told me what they are :) The case is great! I bought it yesterday for my FreeNAS build and I really like the options in the case amazing! And I'm a long-time HAF-X user... thanks again!

    At the sound test you should've warned me when to turn up and down the volume at 9:32 you have that small pause and i turned up the volume thinking Damn! thats quiet, then i almost shat myself when you said "now let's turn it on" xD

    11:22 Doesn't having the cpu cooler on the front counterract the rear fan, causing negative air pressure? I have an AIO but it doesn't seem like that should work. Explain?

      +Dan Janucik theres two fans up front and one at the back, this is positive airflow, and the remaining air that the rear fan cant suck out will come out the vents

    Actually considering upgrading from my 690-3 to this. It's gotten a bit loud for my tastes after the hardware upgrades I've done to the bits inside.
    Take it you guys still feel as strongly, in a good way, about this case today as you did back when it first came out?
    Nb that my only silent options around here (Reykjavik, Iceland) are: Silencio 550, Corsair Carbide 330R, Thermaltake Urban S31, Thermaltake Supressor F51, the core 2500, this fine case right here (front runner imho) and the define xl2.
    Note that I listed all the silent options, and tbh the F51 is probably less silent than it should be seeing as the only version for sale around here is the windowed.

    They should give you one 2x 3,5" tray that you can mount into your 5,25" bays, so you can still install harddrives in an SLI setup with front radiator. Why does no company think about that?

    Hey Dmitry, thanks for your reviews. They are so helpful. Have you considered reviewing the Thermaltake F31 Suppressor as a less expensive alternative to the R5?
