I vote for the Kosmosky. I thought it sounded so much smoother and resonate than the Guda. And it is two sided AND it is so pretty. The Guda sounded more "tin" like to me.
I really appreciate your reviews. I've watched a handful of them in the last couple days trying to make a decision on one of these, and your reviews have been very helpful!
@Pain_ELmental Could I ask which one you decided on? I've been trying to choose between the kosmosky and guda drum as my first one. I like both, but don't know if I prefer the more metallic sound of the kosmosky.
Thanks so much for the reviews! I bought an Idiopan Dominus a month or so ago and then picked up a Domina two weeks ago (probably on the same sale as you. ) True magic happens when they are played together. The drums seem to sing to eachother. I bet that is true of many steel tongue drums. I agree completely that those little high notes on the Idiopans are FRUSTRATING. I think of them more as "percussive dings." The sound on your Guda is exquisite and it is clear from watching you play it that you synch with it very well.
Great video. The interesting thing about steel tongue drums is they sound very different from manufacturer to manufacturer. The Kosmosky and the Freezbee are quite different. The former is more like a traditional tank drum while the latter is like a less-resonant handpan. The Idiopan is somewhere in the middle.
I do find that fascinating! The Idiopan and Kosmosky are quite similar I think, but the rubber band they put on the Idiopan reduces a lot of the overtones. I'm experimenting with pillows and other surfaces too as they change the sound a lot!
@@MusicalMollyKhan Gotcha. With the VibeDrum, I've found placing a pillow between the drum and my lap seems to improve the sound. I don't notice it as much with the Freezbee.
You have simply got to try out a Rav Vast. Lots of scales to choose from. A Marmara, in particular, is a dream and I have not regretted purchasing it for one second... but every scale is beautiful. Nothing compares to it in my experience.
@@MusicalMollyKhan they are absolutely incredible. They have a LOT of sustain which can be good or bad depending on what you are going for. There is a great comparison on RUclips of hand pans and rav’s that have the same tuning that can help demonstrate this.
Thanks for the great comparison of good instruments! 🙏 This is one of the best reviews that I watched because of your constant smile🙂 I hope my drums will come next 😊 Say hello to the baby ❤️
I have 4 KosmoSky drums! Three 12” and one 14” ….. and 3 are double sided so 7 scales total. Beautiful sounding drums and just gorgeous to look at!! 🤗🛸🎶🦋
@@edmundmiller70 …my pleasure. Handpans are my primary instruments…but the tongue drums work well when I do sound therapy sessions. So after handpans, came the tongue drums, then real drums and now Native American flutes. Absolutely lovin’ the musical journey that life has taken me on!! ☺️ 🛸 🎶 🦋

Very interesting. I like the kosmosky the most and the guda the least. Just to be clear, none are bad, and that isn't a criticism. But it's just interesting how different people have different tastes. I had a guda coin and sold it because i preferred my kosmosky dvutone. There is also a trick to the kosmosky when playing with hands... you can gently lay one hand on half the tongues and the other tongues you play will be cleaner and more pure. it's a pretty easy technique to get good at and can offer an alternate sound... With all that said, i love my yw pulsar the most because it has enough notes to play more common music and it sounds great! so pick the one you like the sound of and that offers what you want in a drum and enjoy it! :-)
Great comparison video Molly! As you know I'm a huge fan of the Guda Freezbee. Yes the maker websites are confusing. But @ guda-drum.com you can get a great deal if you buy 2. Two freezbee drums choice of scale and design on each (with possible design limits, not sure on that) PLUS 2 bags for $555. I don't work for them. Nothing on it for me. Just a big fan hoping to save others a little money. Keep up the good work.
what do you think of the beet root? It looks like it is also tuneable but it LOOKS ? like the tongues are bigger so easier to play? Thank you for your video!
Always a joy to watch your enthusiasm on these videos also your sound quality is good for these they are hard to record I would guess due to their resonance, I have one none of these I found a different mallets also makes the sound change a lot I brought soft marimba one they are amazingly different. Ps I always say cosmos-ski not sky because they are Russian 🤣🤣 and I think it sounds more Russian will have to ask a Russian friend the correct way to say it.
Ha ha. I've always pronounced it koz-moss-key. I actually never even thought of pronouncing it cosmo-sky. The latter sounds a lot more like a tongue drum company though. I'd be interested in what your friend says as well.
Wow, it's funny! We are Russian and we call our company in different ways. We sometimes say "kos-mo-skai", sometimes "kos-mo-ski", and we also associate ourselves with a "kos-mos-kee" name as the KEY to space. However, the initial name was associated with a "cosmic sky", so all the other name variants were comprehended thereafter
Love the review . Can you tell us more about the different sticks you use? I also noticed some of the drums come with finger rings. What are your thoughts on those things?
I am working on a video for that, I love comparing the different mallets! The pink ones came with my Kosmosky and are felt, and the others are rubber and came with one of my mass produced drums - they make such different sounds! Personally, I'm not a fan of the finger mallets, but I know some people swear by them!
Ok you love music and found some different kind of instrument.. a bit like me so lol Just for that, I will follow your channel ^^. Maybe one day I will have my own Ravenna (but I don't know yet how many strings) And I aer a baby sound, I have the same at home, for sure this a nice way for him ;)

I'm enjoying the windy sound on the Kosmosky. It sounds like it's singing.
It is so beautiful 😊
You help me so much with all your videos!!!! They are all so great thank you for doing this for us all🥰🥰🥰
Thank you! Your videos are so refreshing. I purchased the Kosmosky for my son and his GF for Christmas - can't wait to give it to them!
