This stove is designed with very lose tolerances to allow for some warpage. Even after the extreme burn test, it seems to be holding up very well. You have proved to me that this stove is quite capable. I will now go purchase one. Thanks.

Same here. Not only that, I don’t plan on letting it burn for almost 2 hours. Probably only 5-10 minutes at a time to boil water. Should last a long time that way.

You wanna go camping you wanna buy your first stove you look at the XL firebox and you think that’s like nearly 100 quid with extra parts if you want them but you look at this Chinese fire Box 20+ quid no extra parts cheap as chips and you wanna save a few pounds this is got to be your choice if you don’t have extra cash to spare and I think even in a normal lifespan you are not going to burn the bits out of it you’re only gonna burn it for an hour or two a day at max I think it will last you a long time I have one and I Think it’s going to last me a lifetime Nice one Dan good test

Its a £25 stove..... enough said. Holds the fire, let's you cook o it, keeps you warm. I'd say you can't ask much more than that. Stove snobbery doesn't make it a poor choice for the budget conscious camper. Of course there will be better out there, but at a price.
Great video and test Dan, love the honesty mate.

That is the point. If you see such ukrain stove they offer for 100 $ with western union, you know is a real thing and ask yourself for what you want it. Is allways such people tell around there is better stuff in the net and they find some things. But to be fair, you pay 25Euros for it and it is a safe way to make tea and coffee by fishing or camping. You can use it as a warm oven and dont get any trouble with a closed system like this if you cook with fire and wood. So ask yourself what you want. In basic training or in a shelter you would love such item cause is that what give you a warm place without have to take a donkey for carry your stuff. It helps you to cook in the field canteen and provide you hot tea. You can fold it and take it with you. Compare it to the Esbit cooker or to the Coleman. From weight is great. Wood rests you fire are for free and that way is a big effort for your budget. You even can use it more then 1 time

The Firebox gets cult status, why? Because rich people with too much money buy them. Just like Rolex watches. At the end of the day, a stove is a stove, is a stove. I would like to see more common sense people promoting products and the improvement hacks that we all love. Great video from a great guy!

I have one of these. I also have a cast iron grill 😅 I have everything I could possibly need. When the Bush stove dies I'll switch to the grill. Just dig a shallow pit about 3 inches or so, dig a channel either side for air and fill with wood. Stick the grill over. You have cooking

      I disagree.
People rightly want to buy non made in china products.

An outdoorsman who designed firebox stoves because he wanted to use them, when out.

I have the same fire and after you’re first big burn you must expect some movement, my box moved and with a very little bit of just hand pressure it’s easy to push it back. Once I popped it back in shape it hasn’t moved hardly ever again. Brilliant little fire and I expect to use it for many years to come.

I have the same kind of stove from a “off the wall” Chinese company… I loaded mine with wood to have a massive fire the first time and it didn’t warp…. I have been using it now for 3 years, so a good 14+ hikes for multiple days (over 40 burnings) and it still is in perfect condition…. I even added 4 interior walls to make a gasifier for a hotter fire, plus I added a floor with less holes to limit the air flow and maximize the burn time (for my winter hikes)….it is a great stove and I will always have this with me…..

I just got one of these with the added folding pot stand that sits on top for $20. I've used it a couple of times and put some serious heat to it. It does warp a bit but is easily fixed. For $20, I can't complain one bit. Wasn't expecting much to begin with but was pleasantly surprised by this bottom of the barrel srove. You have to take it for what it is and not expect a $100 performance from a $20 stove. It'll do in a pinch and if it does go broke or you loose it, you're not out anything. I'd say with a few mods, it's performance could be improved. Just have to take it for what it is.

However I was tempted by this new cheaper model and bought one from eBay for £18.At that price l thought it was worth the gamble.Mine came with a dust pan.It slides in over the two flanges at the base of the stove.Makes a big difference in leaving no trace.

I bought one of these for about £18 and I am very happy with it. I've used it at least a dozen times, probably a good hour each time. It always warps, but each time I just bend it back again. It's not precision engineering, all I'm worried about is that it works. I have other cheap folding stoves, bought for £8 - £12, and they all work well for me.

Seen a lot of vids on this as the most used cheaper firebox, as its larger and a very very useful size, as fires are a real issue these days, its allows you to cook , boil and have a decent sized well contained fire, for about 20 quid its a metal box you have a fire in, and it works.

    Questions for you:
Why did you modify top grill plate?
Why not fit that plate turned 90 degrees and lift front and rear handles to keep top plate in place?
Doing that a frying pan or large enough diameter kettle will be sitting on handles about 10mm above grill plate allowing flames to flow freely.
PS. Just bought one of these on eBay for £10 with delivery. UK supplier.

For price point , two fat thumbs up . If You just HAVE to combat
the sides warping , run a threaded
rod across the stove . Run hinge
side to hinge side . Split distance
from top of stove to top of feed
opening. ( or put rod , or rods where they would do most good ) .
That should help stop warping .

Sure you can still use it, just doesn't sit flush anymore. I can also highly recommend the addition to the bottom to catch more embers which EWM suggests, it makes a big difference.

I think you are probably going to find that most stoves/fireboxes of this kind will have some kind of warping going on under that kind of test. I just picked up a similar style stove made by Robens. It weighs 2.5 kilos so is extremely robust. The dimensions are 22.5 X 22.5 x 27 cms. The quality is reflected in the price (£37.59 from Taunton Leisure). It has the makings of a good stove and there's no need to modify the grill as it is very heavy duty. The ash plate is a different design as far as I can see. It would be interesting to compare the two stoves. Have a look at the Robens Firewood stove and see what you think.

    Good test Dan,
It's a cheap stove, and taking that into account it's stood up well.
I've used mine quite a bit now, and had a few prolonged burns in it for 2-3 hours, and only noticed similar amounts of warping.
    It's still usable.
I know the Bushbox XL is a better stove and better quality but I can't bring myself to shell out on one when there are far cheaper versions on the market that work well.

Whats the chances on you actually using this firebox the way you have in this test? Pretty unlikely I say. However, I'd be super happy with it. Of course its going to buckle a bit with that heat and I think its performed really well! Your ashpan mod will even allow it to get hotter than normal as the embers aren't falling out! Plus, you can buy this 5 times for the price of the original! So now Dan, do the same with the FireBox XL. be good to see if that bows at all. Oh and finally. Don't forget One is stainless and the other is Titanium! Thanks for making the videos. Stay safe! All the best. Paul

Good video mate. All metal expands when heated. This type of fire will not give an even heat so the metal will expand an different amounts, hence the warping.
For the price I'm amazed it did as well as it did. I'm very tempted to buy one myself now.

Well I'm impressed. I was looking at one of these as my boys want to do a bit of shelter building and cooking in the wilds. I was a bit concerned at the beginning that this product would not be suitable, how wrong was I? I think after your extreme test it has held up very well. Cheers

Good test, but if you just use it properly as intended the smal amount of warp still leaves it useable and foldable without any issues.

Brilliant idea, but in honesty Would you ever subject any stove to this. How would the bushbox or firebox Stoves cope with this severity of burn.
    Great Video Mate.

Your supposed to keep that front door open for air flow and close it slightly to keep heat in. I prefer the cheap wood stoves cause they last longer. :)

I agree without changing the bottom ash pan the coals fall down too fast and clog it up because before I modified it I couldn't achieve an hour long burn, but I think this is an ok stove for doing a quick burn with cooking a quick meal and drink. But if you get it expecting a firebox or bushbox you will be disappointed but if you buy it for a cheap stove you can make it work.

I don't understand! anything you put fire to will warp! Yes! thinner metal you warp more then thicker metal, but dose that stop the function, and purpose of the stove, and what it was designed to do.... in the case of this stove...NO it dose NOT!!!! The original FireBox wood wood stove is an awesome stove, and is and has a far superior build quality, and a ton of accessories. I have an MSR pocket Rocket2, UCO Flat pack grill, and it has( warped) and still is an awesome grill, so as far as cooking outside, This little stove is awesome! I got mine 2 weeks ago, I LOVE IT!!!!!
