How To Correctly Use A G2 Reed On A Bigger Build - Why Most Can't Tune It!

  • Seems to be a bunch of really bad info on the G2 reed put out there! Like any reed there is basic things that need to happen for any reed to function correctly! The g2 reed is designed for a 50 to 65cc Engine. This is a valve people! Like any valve if you don't use it for the correct amount of flow going through it, it will end up as a restriction point and cause undesired results!
    In the case of the G2 reed it was built to open and close correctly with a certain volume of air/gas mix! As the reed opens for a bigger engine, Mainly noticed at Idle! Since this is the point with longest durations of piston volume flow! As the piston draws in the valve opens! and does a full cycle then repeats! if the valve is flung wide open it may not close in the time allowed for next cycle fully! this where you get tuning issues! You start the engine fine but it's like running it with no reed at all and causes random situations or running! funny enough faster an Engine goes rpm wise less noticed cause durations are so layered. not actually sure what they call that effect if anyone knows let me know!
    But anyhow I been using G2/Oz/Dio reeds on all kinds of builds. If you notice some people just can't seem to make them work at all! On motorized bicycle kits! Most of those are in the ranges the valve can handle and then the issue is not present! Minarelli, Saw builds, Phantom85, Falcon 911 to name a few will need the mod I'm about to show you in this video to really run 100% of it's potential!

    I don't know why on FB and such I got people telling me No way I use g2 reed on builds like I do.... Then I realized why there saying after the train wreck video the saw dust shoveler tossed out! But anyhow this how I actually get a G2 reed to function correctly. That poor soul is just confused I guess does not know they require deflection springs on builds bigger then 65cc! Though I did enjoy watching him look like deer in headlights as he failed over and over at it!

      Will that black Dio reed valve fit into the G2 housing? If not, one could probably find some reeds of similar dimensions to fit into the G2 housing to test out.

    Great info as always! I did have better luck with my G2 when running the Malossi Minarelli petals, but I was still running into idle issues when the engine warmed up. I'll have to give this a try

    • @BuildBreakFix
      @BuildBreakFix  2 года назад +3

      yeah you will really feel it on idle, the flutter effect. when engine is started up. That is when it chugs air fuel in till warms up atomizes it fully! pedals flex the most in that time cause huge gulps air pulling in!

    Thanks for another informative video they make that Reed valve with carbon fiber pedals both of my yd100 bicycle engine have them on it can't really get mine to idel when you come to a stop you have to bump the throttle like bikers do with there harleys but when she gets going she's going they came in a kit gt80 with keihen carburetor with fiberglass pedals I put the carbon fiber they run about the same with either pedal in them only difference one runs richer than the other I think because of the stiffness difference between the two

    • @BuildBreakFix
      @BuildBreakFix  2 года назад +2

      yeah one of the biggest issues is them sealing! The reed cages are never flat! on pretty much all reeds you buy for these things! Get yourself a foam block nail file! Pretty much super fine sand paper on a foam block! They come like 5 for 2$ local dollar store type places! Take one lightly sand the surface the pedals rest on! If you take your reed cage out and can fill it up with water and non drips out! then you know reed is perfect!

    Off subject but I'm wondering if the CNC & cast high compression heads actually cool any better than a stock head & if so how much. I noticed the Athena kits that are much better built also use a lightweight cylinder head that isn't very beefy & they run at much higher rpm. I haven't seen any videos on heat dissipation differences between stock & CNC heads. They might for the most part be gimmicks .

    • @BuildBreakFix
      @BuildBreakFix  2 года назад +1

      yes cnc aluminum heads are much better at colling the cast iron jugs. Issue is the Cast iron wont soak up the heat like the aluminum piston does as fast! so piston will expand and jug does not causing it to cold seize around the 10k rpm mark after 40 to 50 seconds normally!

    I have a ported 110cc (85cc) with a nasty jack. I'm estimating around 7hp, do you think this is a reasonable expectation?
    I'm balancing my crank today. I can't find any information about hp gains from balancing. Do you have any idea how much hp balancing would gain me?
    Lastly, let's say my motor ends up being 10hp, how much hp do you think I would lose from adding a dio reed?
    I want to add a reed for fuel savings, but only if the hp loss is small.

    • @BuildBreakFix
      @BuildBreakFix  10 месяцев назад

      Something in that area. 5.5hp to 8hp lots of factors. Cleaned up porting is 6hp ish. Perfect timing and correctly sized and set carb with the pipe would be closer to 8
