Thanks Chris, appreciate that, have you ever thought of doing a podcast style video with guests on?

Many thanks for the video. Shouldn’t you have included something about how to manage multiple networks for anyone with a laptop? I haven’t tried to travel with FreeBSD yet, and am a bit concerned about this issue, particularly as at many hotels you just get handed a network name and password without any idea what password protocol is used.

4:15 - This is the manual way to add the network details. A lot of information to write. Almost coding/scripting. There’s no way I could always type all the details for different WiFi cards, access points, security encryption protocols. Is there a simpler way such as searching WiFi SSID, then select it and type in the password and have FreeBSD generate the wpa_supplicant file? I know it could be done because FreeBSD installer have done it for me. Wonder if it could be done after installation via CLI. Thanks.

Great video. Really useful, Gary. Do I detect a somewhat ominous pause at the 2-minute mark, just before you mention the Broadcom BCN and your 'issues getting this to work' on the Mac Mini? Did you by any chance have to mess around with the bwn-firmware-kmod port and build a new kernel? I'm trying to work through this on my ancient MacBook Air.

Installing the bwn-firmware-kmod port and building and installing a new kernel got it working for me :-)

Hi Gary, thanks for that video.
I struggle to get my Wifi working on my Lenovo X1 Carbon 8th gen.
This machine has a Intel AX201 wifi card. Do you know if it's supported? I read something in the mailing list. But I got totally confused in the end.
However, no worries if you don't find the time to check it out.
Cheers and keep up your great work Gary.

Hiya, Mate! I am trying to install the wonderful FreeBSD on an extremley cheap old Acer machine lacking a USB port. As we need mirrors, how would I go about setting up & installing without a WiFi network? Is there another way todo so???

Gary, Thank you for the *OUTSTANDING* content. I'm new to FreeBSD, and *nix in general. I'm trying to get the wifi working on my MacBook Pro 6,1 (2010 - old)- and I'm having a hard time with the information on compiling a custom kernel to the the Broadcom wifi card to work. Could you be of any assistance before I just call it quits and go for Fedora or another mix? Thank you in advance. -The wifi is kicking my arse after hours of trying to get dual boot figured out. Always something. Next it will be the trackpad I'm sure.

Can you do a video on docking stations? No matter what I try I can’t get BSD to recognize my Bluetooth usb mouse.

I'm having trouble with my OPNsense and wifi device drivers. I don't have the official drivers. It's an QCA986x/988x 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter. Can you help me to get this to work?

My laptop needed a reboot to get a USB-adapter going.
    (Internal adapter wasn't recognised)
    Thx a lot!

    Hallo Gary,
thank you for taking care of the wifi issue.
I have one question: why is wifi so slow under Freebsd?
Under Freebsd I reach a speed of 23Mbps
If I boot the same machine via USB stick with Linux I get 470Mbps.

Hi Typogene, thanks for watching, I certainly didn't notice slow speeds on my device, what wifi card is it?

      Hallo Gary,
      thank you for answering.
the wifi device is a intel dual band wireless AC 7260
      ifconfig wlan0:
ssid "xxx" channel 56 (5280 MHz 11a) bssid xxxxx
regdomain ETSI country DE ecm authmode WPA2/802.11i privacy ON
      deftxkey UNDEF AES-CCM 2:128-bit AES-CCM 3:128-bit txpower 24 bmiss 10
mcastrate 6 mgmtrate 6 scanvalid 60 wme roaming MANUAL
      parent interface: iwm0
media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet OFDM/54Mbps mode 11a
      status: associated
      nd6 options=29
Maybe because only 802.11i is available?
If I boot with Linux via USB stick the wifi performace is 15 times better.

Because 11g is max for the most part. Work is being done through the FreeBSD Foundation to add more modern cards but also higher speeds. N for now and ac should be added later iirc.

It seems that for the intel 7260 11a is the fastet speed the driver can reach.
Maybe in Freebsd 14 there will be a driver with more speed
