I have the same disorder as Gus Walz. I was diagnosed as an adult; which made me cry from relief because I no longer felt like a moral failure. Unfortunately, it’s not recognized in the DSM-V, which means accommodations are difficult because you don’t meet the requirements for a 504. Normally, it is diagnosed in conjunction with another disorder (known as a co-morbid diagnosis for my non-psych brothers and sisters), which does meet the requirements for accommodations. I am so grateful for this wonderful young man and his wonderful family. I hope that others can learn and find more understanding.
Hi fellow NVLDer! Here’s a virtual hug! I feel you! I struggle with visual and tactile processing myself and a bit of social skills difficulties and executive functioning issues . I was diagnosed as a little kid so I couldn’t even begin to imagine how it’s impacted you before even knowing what it was.
I have NVLD too. For a long time I couldn't find very much info about it on the internet except in a few books and through other students and relatives who had it. Glad to see more discussion on it. I recently learned Chris Rock has it too and knowing some of his humor it makes sense.

I think it would be neat if we left Gus alone now, at least until we know how he feels about being the focus of all this attention. And while we're at it, what if a kid without a diagnosis cried in joy and pride for their parent? Is that politics? Let kids be kids. And let humans feel emotions.
Thank you! That is what I hope most for Gus is to go back to not having the toilet brushes of society like right wing opinion hosts utter his name at all. 👍🏻
Obviously a much bigger stage, but he's been in the shadow of a spotlight for the past 6 years since Walz was governor. Pretty sure his parents have a good grasp on what he can and can't handle.
I have NVLD and am so happy that we are finally getting some media representation. It's so tiring to have to explain my disorder to every teacher, boss, and even school disability service that I come into contact with. I'm especially glad that this doctor mentioned the strengths that people with NVLD have in addition to our weaknesses.
Jeez. Even if the kid was "typical, or normal"...he expressed a normal emotion at having his dad become the nominee for VP. It speaks to the kind of family the Walz' are. Not groomed for politics. Just ordinary people experiencing something extraordinary.
I teach 5th grade in mixed ability classes, and I can tell you that when they feel welcome and motivated, kids with learning disorders are some of the hardest working and most well-adapted students you'll ever see. They often find clever ways to work around their challenges, and they are able to develop complex routines and habits to help them perform tasks that others might find simple. And if they have teachers that can help them build these adaptive learning skills, they can accomplish some amazing things. I hope the Walz family can bring awareness to the challenges and triumphs of people with learning disabilities when Harris and Walz win in November.

I love gus.
Upim still confused as to why its called non verbal learning disability if they can talk
I wondered that and I think it has confused a lot of people. I think the disability is not a verbal one. If I think of it that way, it kind of makes sense. But could use a better name, surely!
Emotional moment ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I met a child that couldn't speak. She could only make sounds with her voice. She could understand though.
I remember when Sarah plain introduced trig the press went after her using him as a prop. Also Kai , trumps granddaughter was criticized by the press as a prop so Gus is fair game to call a prop
Anyone else love that the family of both the VP and Harris are normal working people and corp business tycoons?
😂😂
You’re funny
No. Gut I like how his son has so much love for his dad.
So you seem to being snarky. Don’t you believe in the American dream? But thanks for acknowledging you think they will win by calling Walz the VP rather than the nominee.
@@ariaflame-au Joke. Harris was handed this without getting one vote. Why? BLACK
Every time this young man goes to the internet he has to see people discussing his disability. This really needs to stop

Ok but I'm weirded out by the doctor's filters. She looks like she is AI generated.

Two beautiful 😻 Asian ladies
If anybody says that’s normal…..
Why is her face a different color than her neck and hands?
Diligent on the tv make up. It’s ok.
After reading some of the posts here and chastise Ann Colter for her comment …. Well I’m left speechless. The ‘supporters’ have presented a number of diagnoses. Ann just said the behavior was weird. All the pundits are making the same comment.

Why fdt. No reason for that this was about a young man proud of his father

it's weird seeing NVLD getting news coverage
What is non verbal learning disability?
When people have good language skills but struggle with making sense of things they see; bad at geometry, people may tend to get lost easily, complicated intersections may not make sense right away, so would busy group events, new social situations to name a few instances of potential struggle.
@@isabelleg9118Exactly 💓!
You explained better than she did! I have 32 years of experience in this field & what Gus did was AMAZING 🎉🎉🎉! Thank you for being kind that is a rare action in the world today 🎉
My heart goes out to Gus, but my vote goes to Trump
Is his kid on the spectrum?
Way too much makeup
lolllll. I tried to ignore it too. I could not.
Caked on
Who cares
@@beautifulloser8074 I'm sure you need more

Wait until they find out he’s lying about that too
Who’s lying about what?
😂does the reporter have enough makeup on😂
That's why they give biden so much ice cream
That makes no sense whatsoever. Weird comment
The kid's hair style is bad
If you don’t think this was planned down to the wording of it you have a very idealistic view of the world.
I understand it very well
It's called "weird."

He was over vaccinated 😂
Strange comment, it makes absolutely no sense. What is it you are attempting to say?

I remember when the left leaning media was bashing Trump's son Barron in 2020, how totally hypocritical.
Liar
@@PH-tv2sw It's true. Democrats are the biggest hypocrites on Earth.
I remember when randos on the internet tried to bash Barron's son and the left leaning media not only wouldn't repeat it, the left leaning media squashed it. You can tell the difference between what is posted in random dark corners of the internet and journalism...right...right???
Who, specifically, was bashing Barron Trump? I never heard anything about that, but will call them out if you give me some names.
I am Trump all the way but your statement is false. Walz son has a great love for his dad.
Democrats supporters mock TRUMP and his KIDS i wonder what would REPUBLICANS supporters would say about KAMALA and WALZ kids would they make fun of them but im pretty sure REPUBLICANS supporters have more RESPECT
Typing like Trump isn't as flattering as you might think it is.
Furthermore, Trump's children are adults and were involved in his administration. They are political figures, culpable for many issues under his administration. They're fairgame.
Tim Walz's son is 17, and Republicans did mock him for this because they're despicable people.
We judge Trump and his kids for the content of their character (which is reprehensible at best).
You judge Democrats' kids for having disabilities.
It's not the same thing, not even close.
Respect? Is that what they called January 6th?
This is nice and all but I still won’t vote for his communist father
Im crying 😢 I work with non verbal kiddos and let me tell you, some of these parents PRAY their kid would express that much verbally! It is A BLESSING to have a kid, disability or not! These people should clear their mirrors!!!
