I just bought mine I got the long, wide 950 fill. So far I like it. I choose that same blue for the inner and yellow for the outside. I wanted to differentiate the color at night in the dark. Nice review.

Duck down ? Until I found this out I was going to get this quilt. Now I'm more inclined to go for a Thermarest Vespar. The specs (900 goose down) seem to be better for cheaper.

Looks a decent quilt Robin , I wish I went for the -6 rather than -12 model ugq as it’s a little heavier . They are more comfortable than a bag , but on my last camp my quilt was pretty damp in the morning as the conditions inside felt damp . Probs down to the tent been frozen and unable to breathe properly . You will have to let me know how you get on in future camps with yours atb Dave
Must admit on that last camp with Kev my quilt was damp on the surface by my feet, was still perfectly lofted though. My mistake was my quilt has the same comfort rating as my bag. 👀
I was fine in the last camp with it, temp only got as low as 4°c though. I want to test it on or below freezing next time as its the same comfort rating as my sleeping bag.
Thanks for the helpful review. Sincerely appreciate your advice: Which length would you recommend if you're on the edge of EE's length sizing? For example, an EE Regular Length is supposed to fit height 5 ft 6 in. tall to 6 ft tall, and a Long is supposed to fit 6 ft - 6 ft 6 in. tall. If you are a 6 ft tall side and back sleeper, would you order a Regular or Long length? If you are 5 ft 6 in. tall, would you order a Short or Regular length? In both cases, the width would be Wide.

Great review. I bought a second hand early one in good condition but needed a clean. Cleaned but still trying to get the down distribution even. The long vertical tubes don't help. There are videos how to do this but so far harder than rubix cube. Otherwise so much better than a sleeping bag.
Been using my quilt until my last 2 trips. The one I got has a hood which is fantastic. The quilts are better for 3 season no doubt, I can't comment on winter use. ATB.
@@WalkWithWallace A Seirra design one, not sure they make the hooded ones now... shame if true because the hood brilliant for keeping the heat in. I use a 3 season pad on top of a sliver foil sheet, I find that ok.
@@ScotsWildcamper Sierra Designs are decent. Like you I've got away with using silver foil too, would be nice to have a big luxurious rectangular pad though so you didn't have to bother with the silver foil stuff.
It lofts-up like a champ!! I like the design, since the 1990's I've predominantly used the British army Arctic sleeping bag......however, most of the time the zip ends up totally undone because it's too hot in there for my part of the world. This looks ideal, nothing worse than waking up in a blind panic, unable to breathe because you're all twisted up in a sleeping bag😬👍
Aye that sounds like a pretty substantial bag you've got there. I hate being all twisted and the hood usually ends up at your face too, rather than underneath. 😤

Good review , been looking at these for a while mate but still not sure. I do hate slim sleeping bags as get very restrictive as like to be able to move my legs a lot and I’m also a side sleeper. How do you find it with no hood as the only benefit I find from a sleeping bag is the hood as I kind of sleep with my head inside firstly to breath out warm air to get me warm and secondly that snug feeling …. Obviously during summer months my head is out but I tent to wild camp more in winter . Do you know if firstly the have wider toe box sections and if you order a king that would cover your head ? Like you, I was not sure on a quilt. In fact quite against it until I just took the plunge. I don't miss the hood at all as I can still get my head under the quilt when it's cold. What is a minor issue is my pillow can slip away from under my head at times. You could maybe size up on the length so it gives you more coverage. Cheers Andrew, yes I had it down to -2-4°c just before new year. Video went out a couple of weeks ago. The quilt was fine, but I felt the cold through my sleeping mat as it's only 3 season. I reckon -12°c is problably overkill, even if you're likely to get some chilly nights in April.

Quilt = freedom, I’m a side sleeper too now I’ve used a quilt I would only use a bag in extremely cold temperatures and the couple times I’ve had a bag which was while I had a base camp set up I used it like a quilt
Useful information, thanks. What temperature would you use it down to? I’ve never used one and have always used mummy style bags. We recently stayed in a mountain Bothy where it was minus 8 at night and I couldn’t imagine being in a quilt at those temperatures.
So far I've only had it down to 4-5°c, I want to push that a bit further still to get it a 2-3°c below freezing. -8°c is baltic, which bothy did you stay in?
@@WalkWithWallace we were in the Lakes near Buttermere in a MBA Bothy called Warnscliffe, which sits under Fleetwith Pike. We carried some firewood and logs in so it wasn’t too Baltic!
@@grahamhaines9931 I know roughly where you are. I had a right cold bothy night in the Tarf Hotel, we were huddled around the fire, but our backs were cold, probably around the same temp as you. Never got much sleep that night.
I looked at the Thermarest Hyperion 20 and got the feeling it would be a bit narrow and restrictive. Love the quilt for freedom of movement and try and avoid using sleeping bags these days.

I don’t find it warm enough as temps drop however. (As it gets below about 5 degrees I would say) Can never seem to stop the drafts getting it so have just ended up reverting back to sleeping bags from October to March.
@@WalkWithWallace TBF I use mine with a wide rectangular pad nowadays. They’re maybe better used with a mummy style like you have for eradicating drafts.

Looking at one of these or a katabatic, would you recommend importing from slovakia vs america? I have a brother in america who could reship it to me to possibly avoid import fees. Although when repacking it and he sees the quality I fear it might get "lost" in postage.
It might be worth asking Valley and Peak first if they'll have these back in stock any time soon? I'd be tempted to get your brother to buy it and ship it to you to be honest. I got it really quickly from Slovakia though.
There's a couple of wee things I'm no sure about, my sleeping bag hood does a pretty good job of keeping my wee pillow in the right place, and the draughts! I need to try one, but it's no a cheap experiment! Disappointing lack of Luna in this vid mate :-)
I reckon you'll get on with one, but resale on a good as new quilt will be decent, so not a huge loss if you hate it. 🤔 This was made long before Luna's arrival. 😁
It looks toasty! I usually wear all my clothes when camping in cold weather, which can be pretty restrictive in a sleeping bag. I might be asking Santa for one of those.
@@WalkWithWallace Yes. I have a nice light sleeping bag which is great down to about 0C. Lower than that I need more layers. -4C is the coldest I've camped in, and it was pretty uncomfortable. Actually no - there was one really freezing night in the Pentlands where my tent went as hard as rock due to the frost. It was so cold I just packed up at 4am and headed back down! Ooft - never again!
I’d miss the hood on a sleeping bag. Being a baldy I have to wear a hat or the hood up on my Patagonia r1 hoody. Nothing nicer than hunkering in a down cocoon eh

Haha, I do have a lot of blue gear. 😁 Couple of bird feeders fell off, otherwise a non event. Kev was without power for 30 hours! 👀

Hi Leigh, I would recommend going a size up if you're unsure or on the cusp of the size guidelines. So I'd go regular in your case.

Essentially the same quilt, but with a different footbox. I'll give mine a shot in winter, but like you may revert back to the sleeping bag too. 🤔

There's a couple of wee things I'm no sure about, my sleeping bag hood does a pretty good job of keeping my wee pillow in the right place, and the draughts! I need to try one, but it's no a cheap experiment!

I reckon you'll get on with one, but resale on a good as new quilt will be decent, so not a huge loss if you hate it. 🤔 This was made long before Luna's arrival. 😁
It looks toasty! I usually wear all my clothes when camping in cold weather, which can be pretty restrictive in a sleeping bag. I might be asking Santa for one of those.
Is that because you feel the cold? I do love the freedom of the quilt, I hope I get on with it when it gets colder.
@@WalkWithWallace Yes. I have a nice light sleeping bag which is great down to about 0C. Lower than that I need more layers. -4C is the coldest I've camped in, and it was pretty uncomfortable. Actually no - there was one really freezing night in the Pentlands where my tent went as hard as rock due to the frost. It was so cold I just packed up at 4am and headed back down! Ooft - never again!

I’d miss the hood on a sleeping bag. Being a baldy I have to wear a hat or the hood up on my Patagonia r1 hoody.
