It warmed my heart when Kitty and Yuri weren’t on good terms but Kitty still stood up for her when that gross guy at the party was comparing them and saying mean things about Yuri like her nose is big etc. She didn’t absentmindedly go along with whatever he said in order to impress him or get the kiss she was wanting, she put him in his place! No I agree we know the big secret but I feel like it never touched on why their friendship drifted and ended, in such a way that they never spoke of the other and Jina pretended like she didn’t know kittys mom
I just realized that when Kitty was in the car with Yuri heading to KISS that Dae’s dad, Yri’s driver never knew about Kitty and Dae’s relationship because if Dae had told him about Kitty he would have recognized her right away. That means for 4 whole years Dae’s father never knew about anything where as Kitty’s family always knew about Dae. That’s some sus behavior.

as cringey as this show was, i was so invested, AND the plot was good, but it was a good “summer” show, a little kidish show was something i desperately miss. and this was a good start!
Yes! There are too many shows that spread negativity nowadays. Because seriously, do we really want shows like Euphoria to be the show of our generation? XO Kitty felt very Gen Z and it was so cute. The characters weren't crazy and didn’t do anything immoral. So yeah, XO Kitty is a breath of fresh air.
There were many tropes and the plot’s messy, but I feel like the show is pretty self-aware and it actually does make jokes about k dramas and teen shows. I really enjoyed it! I also liked how much Korean they spoke because it made it more real. I’m not Korean, but I do speak/understand another language, and the switch between Korean and English in the movie felt realistic (ie speak Korean when u wanna talk shade or when ur talking to another native speaker cuz it’s easier, vs speak English when ur talking to another non-Korean speaker)
Yess!! My only issue was that they kept using korean as a "secret language" in front of a bunch of people while they were IN KOREA, like I'm pretty sure quite a few people are understanding your conversation rn lolol
I was honestly shocked that no adult would do anything about Kitty’s roommate problem. The web cam was extremely disturbing, not to mention how unsanitary it was there. She either would have been kicked out for living with the boys or kicked out for failing because she never got a wink of sleep in that room. It was a lose lose situation.
As a korean, the BIGGEST disappointment for me was the throwing away of the amazing premise of kitty wanting to go to korea to find out more about her mam and her mam's culture. Like, that would've been amazing! Seeing her experience Korean culture, find some of her mam's korean relatives and reconnect with her roots, and explore her identity as a half-korean. However, I feel like that was all thrown aside for the sake of the relationship aspect of the drama and kitty finding her bisexual identity, which fair enough, it's a romantic genre, but you can get that in any western set drama! Why go all the way to Korea, film in Korea, have Korean actors and actresses and schools, and yet basically no aspect of Korean culture except the one fan dance scene (which was also basically just a push in the romantic plot if anything between kitty and yuri). Like, I was just so disappointed because the massive potential was there, and yet I feel like they barely touched it for the sake of the romance, just putting in some random kpop songs and insert shots from time to time. Like I can see why people would still enjoy it regardless, because of the plot, but I just felt like its a plot that doesn't need Korea as a setting - I just feel like they used the setting of Korea as bait for kdrama viewers as you know everyone seems to be slapping the name 'Korean' on anything subtly 'oriental'. It was just frustrating for me to get so hopeful about seeing something new and refreshing and something perhaps me and other Koreans living outside of Korea like kitty could relate to, but have it crushed by a love square?? Also I've said this before but I was also hopeful to see the portrayal of korean relationships which aren't as sexual from teenage years, and much more sweet, romantic and pure. However.....? Though I guess I cant complain as obviously this is a western drama, but still it wouldve been interesting to see a western girl experience korean relationships. Overall, I dont hate the show, there were some cute scenes, minho was cute, dae was cute, personally feel like it could've been cooler for kitty and yuri to be friends like their mams were, you like continue the legacy, but yeah. My personal opinion ^^
Aren't most k-dramas set in high school years pretty mild? I mean, there's a reason Nevertheless got a whole lot of attention because all of the sexual scenes. There's a lot of East Asian media that portrays both inoccent teenage and adult relationships, there's defninitely not a lack of those.
@@cheribitch5396 I mean the whole premise was supposed to be that her character is very white passing so her experience in Korea is just about the same as any other white American who visits the country.
agree with u 💯 part of her journey is self-discovery, so actually learning about her mom's family and Korean culture wouldve tied the whole story together better and make her a more well-grounded character
I saw kitty as a passionate and smart person in TATBILB , it's kinda out of character she didn't even prepared to learn korean before coming to korea. I would love to see a scene where her dad ask if she isn't worried about the language barrier and and she answers in decent korean.
the fact that Alex put the disclaimer/ text after the sapphic skit reads like "MOM SAID IM ALLOWED" and it is the cherry of top of that whole bit. love it
I also really liked this show, I was genuinely SHOOK when Kitty turned out to be queer! It genuinely threw me for a loop but also made me happy as a queer woman! I saw a lot of myself in Kitty and seeing her queerness not being used as a marketing strategy like so many other shows made me happy! Normally shows will HEAVILY advertise queerness in shows to draw their gay audience in but it was nice to be pleasantly surprised and see the MAIN CHARACTER go through something that resonates with me so deeply but not make it the ENTIRE story
Kitty was such a stand-out character in both the books and movie adaptations. They just had to ruin everything by reducing her to Lara Jean 2.0. Also, how in the world did she fall for the girl who stole her boyfriend? And it came out of nowhere too like what?
@@trinaqit didn't really, if you watch the car scene in the beginning you can sense what they were going to do. And people are acting like crushes dont come out of nowhere sometimes

Min Ho is the most k-drama character in the whole show. It was obvious he likes Kitty. But the whole show low-key reminded me of Rebelde. Not the netflix reboot but the original mexican version. I really enjoyed Kitty's confidence. And of course and an older generation k-pop fan couldn't miss 2pm's Ok Taec-yeon cameo. Loved every bit of the show.
Why Rebelde? You mean their actions without thinking about the consequences or the fact that they're so unstable when it comes about their love interests? I'd like to understand more about your thoughts on that. 😊
I’ve never commented on videos on RUclips but I just have to say the one thing no one will. It WAS a weird problem that Kitty fell for the one girl who actively tried her best to ruin Kit’s relationship with Dae just so she wouldn’t have to verbally come out like it wasn’t something her mum already knew but just chose to ignore. Like there wasn’t any other nicer girl that could’ve caught her eye. It was the girl who took her guy, the girl who didn’t let him tell Kit the truth, the girl who stole the necklace, the girl who always interjected in Dae and Kitty’s conversations? Cause I even get Dae’s pov on it when he hears Yuri name from Kitty and all he can think is “She’s the LITERAL reason, we couldn’t be together, f*** you mean, you fell for her?”. I just didn’t support that side of the show🤸🏾♀️
Exactly! And when the girls do the show and they're up there with the fans, Yuri and the rest of the girls just leave her to be set on fire. No one near her tried to do anything. So, Yuri is the girl that she likes after all that?

The fact that they had Ok Taecyeon to say that Minho’s mom kept him warm or whatever makes me punch the air bc it’s so cringey and he’s actually a good actor like his performance in Vincenzo was so good
Change my mind but this show is one of the better new teen dramas :) It's not overly sexualized, it's actually funny sometimes and the story had a lot of twists and turns and the representation was amazing! I really enjoyed it because I love LOVE cheesy rom com drama shows and this hit the spot.
I appreciated that aspect too! The only moments that were a little sexualised were literally the sex dreams that are meant to be cringey and intense. It had enough of that stuff to feel realistic to the teen experience but not so much that it becomes gross and uncomfortable to watch.
I'm bisexual and yes. it's funny that we always talk about how boys tend to miss obvious signs but then do it ourselves. and it's harder if you are into feminine women as feminine girls because you never want to disrespectfully assume that someone is gay solely because they complimented how your hair highlights go perfectly with your eyes with also matches that one blue flower on your dress in the 3rd quadrant. 🤣
I binged the entire show in one evening and I honestly didn't expect it to be so good. I really liked the characters and the fact that they all had some sense in them lol
I saw parts where they tried but overall it didn't really work, sadly. I think editing, writing, and directing have to be on the same page for that to properly happen.
The first half was super boring, but the second half was a lot better. The characters were actually pretty interesting (outside of Kitty that is), which is surprising. I didn't think I would like it, but the plot with a secret child, a family with a fake appearance, etc. Was fun.

Min-ho has my heart honestly. I was oddly attracted to his transformation from a dismissive and aloof individual to someone who genuinely cares for Kitty (although always cared for his friends) and reminded me of Taylor's song Enchanted. Its just society and the intense pressure to be perfect. This leads to bullying and shaming people especially if you’re seen as foreign. And foreign doesnt even just include from America or Europe. It could must mean you’re from Japan or the Philippines. agreed. I hate that so many teen shows nowadays portray our experiences as only or mostly being defined by suffering
Thought so too!!
Just a little heads up: There's already one bot that stole your top comment! 😂Beware!
Yess!! My only issue was that they kept using korean as a "secret language" in front of a bunch of people while they were IN KOREA, like I'm pretty sure quite a few people are understanding your conversation rn lolol
It was weird as hell but the characters felt like they had common sense and the whole show just felt like a satire on actual k dramas
Right? I loved it
I was honestly shocked that no adult would do anything about Kitty’s roommate problem.
There's a lot of East Asian media that portrays both inoccent teenage and adult relationships, there's defninitely not a lack of those.
and it doesn’t help that the actress who plays kitty is a 1/4 Chinese and looks very white like they should have cast someone else no offence
@@jaouna In Nevertheless they were all college students and consenting adults so no they weren't portraying teenagers.
@@cheribitch5396 I mean the whole premise was supposed to be that her character is very white passing so her experience in Korea is just about the same as any other white American who visits the country.

part of her journey is self-discovery, so actually learning about her mom's family and Korean culture wouldve tied the whole story together better and make her a more well-grounded character

I saw kitty as a passionate and smart person in TATBILB , it's kinda out of character she didn't even prepared to learn korean before coming to korea. I would love to see a scene where her dad ask if she isn't worried about the language barrier and and she answers in decent korean.

Oh my gosh something I completely agree with. (I'm not gay or anything but I still loved the fact it wasn't a marketing strategy. like FINALLYY)

As a bi woman, the whole wlw segment is EXTREMELY accurate, like how did you know Alex😂

Yes this! I loved that they weren't being over sexualised and it was genuinely funny. Plus how she was failing because she literally never studied lol
So true.
