🤘🇲🇨🤘
Awesome cover can you do Nazareth-This Flight tonight
You know a song is well written when 30 years later people are still putting out amazing covers
I love the original and thought Nonpoint did a great job. But Leo takes it to a whole other emotional level
this song will be still legend 30 years from now
Hell yes!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🍻🍻🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@michaellichtenberg7952 I really began to enjoy it after the movie.
I knew it, and liked,.but it's on another level now.
And nobody even knows who wrote it lol look at all of Phil Collins other songs, they all suck. No way he wrote this. Most big bands never write their own songs anyways, the industry is pretty effin corrupt and rigged. Sell out or never get famous. The only 2 options, talent comes 2nd.
I admire Leo's fearlessness in the songs he chooses. So many of these songs should be impossible to cover, especially as heavy metal, but he makes them all awesome.
Leo, never seen anyone else as talented as you are, EVER!
I agree!!!!
Anyone else appreciate the grit in his voice?
I do
no you are the only one...
Its wonderful
Idk, feels kind of forced.
Kind of a dumb question lol that's what most of us love ;)
Fun fact,
Gabriel’s Genesis bandmate Phil Collins was playing the drums as usual when his beats were accidentally picked up by the microphone used by audio engineers to talk to the band. That microphone wasn’t meant to record music-its heavy compressors were designed to turn down loud sounds while amplifying quiet ones. The equipment also utilized a noise gate, which meant the recorded sounds were cut off shortly after they started. The result was a bright, fleeting percussive sound unlike anything heard in popular music.
Gabriel loved the effect, and made it the signature sound on the opening track of his album. A year later, Collins featured it in his hit single “In the Air Tonight,” perhaps the most famous example of gated reverb to date.
Time: 3:13
Mostly accurate but according to the engineer, the noise gate wasn't part of the initial 'discovery' but rather something they added on later "almost for a laugh".

History of music is always awesome. Two summers ago I got 4 credits (A) in History of Rock and Roll. It was a great class for summer term.
Nerds
@@cr1ng372 I hold that badge with honour, In a time when you can't really move about I'm happy to sit in and work on guitars and read up on rock history.
Yes this is very old news.
When Leo breaks out the black and white with no silly costumes, you know you're in for a TREAT.
I was thinking the same.Takes talent to own it like he does with no glitter and dancing rabbits.(Which are totally cool btw)
@@MrRedDon rabbit coffee cup and tee arrived this week. best event of 2020.
His music has always been awesome...but his editing is becoming just plain phenomenal.
still got the blackout contact lenses, tho, lol
The original video is a super minimalistic black and white/thermal? Maybe a coincidence but also written during a divorce hopfully Leo is doing alright....
Put on a really good pair of headphones, sit back, close your eyes and take in one of the greatest covers of all time. Seriously, I finally get the message behind this song. It's literally about a man who has just about enough. He is done. This fucking shit is so emotional man. Jesus dude. Good job leo. Fucking A bro.
Phil Collins wrote this song about his very emotional divorce.
I prefer my home speakers and my 18” sub. Gets the entire house rocking!!
Well said, Good Sir...👏👏👏. I just got introduced to this amazing man via my 26 year old daughter....and I am forever in her debt. This isn’t just goofy cover sh*t...holy hell.
@@cjshardcorepunkmusicvault8474 I heard that it had to do with the rape of a friend .I read it in Rolling Stone.
@@victoriavinson8401 Don't quote me on this.....I seen from different sources that it was actually about his either brother or friend who went swimming with one if their friends and ended up drowning because the other friend wouldn't help...Supposedly, After Phil wrote the song he invited the friend to a front row seat concert...He then proceeded to sing this song for the first time while looking the guy dead in the eyes the whole song...Again, Supposedly that night after the concert...The guy went to his house and killed himself
When I want to learn the hard-to-decipher lyrics to any song, I just wait for a Leo cover. He sings every word so clearly, there's no guessing needed.
I'd love to hear a version of Psycho killer by talking heads
Edit: Holy crap this be the most likes I ever had! THANKS 👍
I wish I had two thumbs up to give this comment
Up
Oh shit that would be crazy! Upvoted!
Hello Leo, I'm a 51 years old man and this song is in my head together the '80 & '90 classics...
Thank you very much for this great version.
Have a great 2021.
Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina (South America).
Why isn't this being played on the radio stations everywhere ?! Love this !!!
Because this isn't cookie cutter shit!
Leo is obviously a genius. All the versions he does are simply amazing. They are all kind of funny, heavy yes, but funny also.
This one is a different beast. It's dark, dense, gives the goosebumps
Finally! Phil Collins gets the metal treatment...🤘
yeah man finally \m/
There was also a cover done by Nonpoint
You're right. I almost counted Disturbed cover of Land of Confusion but that was Genesis era.
@@SeasonofTreason must say, even Leo can't beat Nonpoint with this one
@@SeasonofTreason The Nonpoint cover is amazing.
I cried as a kid when Phil first released this song. And I'm shedding a tear now too. A lot has happened over the years. Thanks Leo.
True Renaissance Man.
I don’t know how you ever had the time & will to learn EVERYthing you have. All the instruments, video editing, comedy, video directing, drama, and just music mixing & producing ALONE…all of it, man. Such a talented dude.
You can't tell me every single person that is listening to this didn't stop and do the drums.
the breakdown was a little weak.
My Head was constantly nodding as soon as i clicked the sideways triangle..\m/
Yup!
Every time!
Mike Cals no doubt. Every.. single.. time
This was my dad's favorite song before he passed I love this song and the way you did it
Phil Collins' song and Leo's voice combined was something I never knew I needed in my life until I actually got it
The best remake I've heard of this iconic sound. I'm always impressed with Leo's ability to make metal truly a musical experience. Not just meaningless distortion and screaming, but truly ART.
As a Metal Fan, I Have to Agree👍 I can Actually "UNDERSTAND" what LEO sing's😉
The original is one of my favorite songs of all time, so it takes ALOT for me to say this, but this is one of the best covers of any song i have ever heard.
low, deep, threatening.
I wouldn't mind hearing more metal like this.
This gave me the chills... The original was played at my wife’s and mother in laws funeral... Excellent rendition...
when my grandfather passed I was a 16 year old in year 12 at high school,, my mum let me play Metallica Fade to Black at his funeral... that song is memorable to a lot of the oldies at the funeral who didnt even know who Metallica were,, even now , I'm 44, that song brings back raw emotion and tears..
All Hail Leo 🤘
Found this guy a few years back now. Took exactly 27 seconds for me to say "hell yell" been a fan ever since. Has my vote for most talented man on earth.
I lost my leo virginity to "Africa"
@Sinzina Rain, I stalked your profile. I think you would find Venues "We are One" to be a good addition to your female fronted playlist
@@Evasivechzburger Thx will give them a listen
@@Evasivechzburger Thanks for tip 👍 good sound added .
@@sinzinarain7131 NP, I have a lot to explore in your list too :)
Are we gonna talk about what a world class singer Leo is? He covers up with loads of hilarious antics but hes proven his worth with this cover as far as I'm concerned. Gonna be hard to beat, Leo!!
Dude...
That's the best cover of that song I've ever heard. To me? You've put Norway on the map. Absolutely amazing.
Always made me smile when I'd see people talking about this track being about revenge instead of personal despair.
Phil collins did a wonder with this track.
The internalised turmoil and man vs his worst enemy, himself.
I remember being knee high to a grasshopper when I was given advice that was "remember only you, can ever truly break your heart"
For a pop star this song is a dark representation of self hatred and self destruction and Leo pulled it off a seriously perfect cover.
This is probably my most favorite song of all times. I have heard so many remakes of it and I just drop my head in severe disappointment. You actually did it extreme justice. Thank you.
Agreed 100%
I think any Drummer wants to play that break once in his career.
Not only drummers
I'm already listening to this on loop. Love the original but this does bring something new that really adds to it. Nice work!
I’m also a big fan of the Nonpoint version. this is right up there! in my ears, Collins, Nonpoint and Leo are the 3 best versions of the song I’ve heard.
(in no particular order)
Finally. This song done the way it was always meant to be.
There have been a few times where I was like "oh no Leo, not this one, it's too iconic, leave it alone". But then I give it a listen and can't help but to throw a thumbs up at it immediately. Nicely done yet again.
One of the coolest experiences I had with this song was in the early 90s when I went to a Hardrock Cafe for the first time (Atlanta). In The Air came on and next thing you know they are turning down the lights and cranking the volume. Not sure why they did it with only this one song, but it was an unforgettable night.
👍🏻👍🏻
Complete agreement here!

This piece was always with me in the second moments of my life, so completely by accident. When I was in the army, in love ... and today. Today I am 46 years old and at a crossroads, I am with one woman, but I love the other. A love I rejected years ago. Today, after work, tired, I turned on Phil's original and, so tired, I got dressed to get on my bike and go home.
I fire up your account and you uploaded this piece .... that's not a coincidence. Thanks man you did something good for my heart. You cut a diamond in a note and sound that I adore. I greet you, brother. Artur from Poland.
I'm not the first to say this... but this freaking rocked. Leo didn't "over-metal?" it. I love how he kept the melody similar, but different... added a few sustained notes... instead of Phil's. Also loved that the iconic dun dun dun da dah dun was kept. Then the rest he just added to it. Killer Leo, just killer. This and Africa w/ Rebea and Hannah are my top two favorites on repeat right now. Keep safe everyone, this is a plus for 2020.
Dont forget Dance Monkey and Down Under...
Thier cover is the only version of Africa i can listen too, I honestly hate that song but Listen to that cover a ton.
DITTO!!! ALL OF WHAT YOU SAID. 🤘😁👌
Zombie and Sultans of Swing are two of my favorites. Leo does an amazing job with most anything he does, just a super talented guy.
Leo killed this 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤️
I remember being blown away when the original came out in the 1980s. There's a good reason they used it in the pilot episode of Miami Vice. And now this!! I think this is now my favourite version of this classic song. You've managed to capture the darkness and the despair perfectly. Thank you.
Leo is awesome! He stayed true to the original with a lot of the ambiance of the song and at 3:15 he did the drum part that everyone plays the air drums too while rocking this in the car!
A little heavier, and a whole lot darker. Damnit man this is perfect.
Definitely a whole lot darker. Idk if it's just me, but the delivery and sound, makes it seem really sinister.
I say the same
It also sounded more striped down and raw !
I love it. The scariest bit is his darkened face, expressions and eyes.
@@johno3326 and that is what makes this video Fantastic
As someone who's always listened to the original countless times and is inspired by Phil Collins as a drummer, this cover is, quite simply, EPIC!
One of those songs where nobody can come close or make better. The original still gives me chills on a good sound system
It the beat and slow burn intro that most cover want to rush.
"Secret Agent Man" by Johnny Rivers ?🤷
That would be a good cover. Good suggestion
That would be so sweet would love to see more older songs like that turned into a cover.
I NEVER realized the depth of the lyrics of this song. Wow.
Ever considered of making a cover of Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the heart?
Much yes to this.
Definitely any Steinman classic would be awesome!
@@iakirov Raab and Hannah on it too... would be sweet.
Another gem I just discovered, thank you for the great show yesterday in the Effenaar, Eindhoven in The Netherlands. For those who havent seen this band live, you must go see them, they are awesome
Somewhere on this planet..P.Collins is saying " bloody ' ell" why didn't I think of this.?????....Cheers from Texas Leo.
Texas!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Even a fun loving guy like Leo can't sway from the seriousness of this song. What a sick cover
You give this song the darkness it has always deserved but lacked. Chills, just... Chills.
One of those rare times when the cover is better than the original
Oh, the original is plenty dark. Phil Collins' smooth voice and clean singing contrasts with the lyrics the same way a mob boss' polite demeanor contrasts with his death threats.
(see also: Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen)
@@deusexaethera love the original but I'm a metal head so this sits perfectly for me. But STILL love Phil's version. Unfortunately we won't be able to see him play it anymore 💔
One of my favorites 😢actually can relate Thank you Leo
Phil Collins made this song simply a lament. Leo made it dark...I love it.
Note: I always thought Phil was saying, "Hold on". Lol
Until I read this note I thought the same thing, "hold on."
Great as always!
Please, please, please, PLEASE do “I Touch Myself” by The Divinyls. I think it would fit your cover style well!
JD Gaff , I second this! I have long thought that this would be an awesome cover for Leo there is an acoustic version too.

Pure gold!
I was just thinking about this song earlier this morning. Chills from this version. Lit
NONPOINT
And now this version.
Perfection.
was waiting for someone to mention the nonpoint version which i honestly prefer over this but still a good cover.
You sire, are my new favourite musician. You're an absolute joy to behold. I love the passion you show. Don't. Stop. Ever.
Just as powerful as the original 🤘
Wow goose bumps. Best cover ever. Thank you Leo. Really love this
And all these years I thought Phil was saying "Hold On". I never heard "Oh Lord" until Leo said it.
DAMN dude,,that song rocked but you just took it up to a whole nother level .
This is the single greatest video Leo has ever done. The vibe, the song choice, the arrangement, the blackout lenses on his eyes. Amazing vision for this song and video.

I love Leo's vids they are marvelous.
damn. this hits hard. Phil nailed it. you did it respect and nailed it too. this song doesn't get touched unless your on it. well done.
DAMN, This song just hits in all the right ways. Phil Collins wrote this about going through a divorce. Brighter days are coming Leo.
Overland Trailer I find it interested that Leo recorded not longer after his. I just realised that.
Zissou Moonshot It was his divorce. It’s well documented.
Always sounded to me like he's talking to his wife's lover.
Of course this is speculation and even if true, I respect Phil's decision to not out his ex wife that way and just claim he was angry when he wrote it.
Never forget hearing Adele’s “hello” Leo you sure have grown this channel bro. Seeing your kid all grown up. Wow man too awesome.
Absolute banger, man! Had me headbanging for entire 1 hour commute to work! Love your music!!!!
