11:35 is really important. Evan is smart and very self aware. For someone that young to realize the importance of coaching and, more importantly, make it available to others in the company, speaks volume. Kudos to him for that ;)
I respect that he focuses on product gain, instead of the typical tech business model of expecting users to do something to be profitable. The company ends up manipulating the ux.
Incredibly rude interview on Kara's part. In spite of that, great interview on Evan's part - thoughtful, articulate, confident in his vision while maintaining a tone of humility.
1:05 when asked about the redesign, he said " when you look at the redesign, it's really about the problem we are trying to solve. 2:53 "explain how you decided to do it", Evan said"....the thing that we've always try to do when we release a product is when we know the underlying philosophy is sound and that the solution may change over time. 5:29 when asked about the trust between him and the investor, "its gonna be a process to build that trust."
As he said - SNAPCHAT IS ONLY FOR RICH COUNTRIES..NOT FOR POOR COUNTRIES LIKE INDIA... DONT KNOW HOW AMAZON, UBER, OLA, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM HAS GOT SO MUCH PROFIT FROM THIS POOR COUNTRY. GO AWAY U ALL..N STILL WE CAN LIVE HAPPILY MAKING U CRY BT U WILL NT GO COZ ITS MONEY HONEY.
kara was very disrespectful and trying to provoke him to say something back....i get the sense she doesnt wanna be there and out of touch with the youth and lives in her own world.....shes a weird one
Nope she is doing just job of a journalist infact I like her too n theway he tactfully handles her... Best part is weget to see amazing side of Evan... Earlier thought if hum as some Arabian conglomerate but now am just in love with his principles n idealogies.. PPL don't hv any values these days.. they toss it with their feet n play with it.. good person to admire from our generation.. i like him better than Zuckerberg n musk both felt like druggie or some sort of culprit or with hidden agenda even Google ceo from India not that good.. he will definitely go loong long way.. hope to see some best best interviews in future 🤟😎✌️😌🤘
Yes.. As a indian i accept...but most indians are ruling the internet for example what happen when sundar pichai remove snapchat from play store....... If there is no Indians there will be no google,Microsoft, facebook etc...
Tru.. a gem indeed..💥💥💥 super awesome interview saw in loong time since then don't know watched it thousand times n bowled over again n again.. 🔥🔥 wish he is exactly like he is saying... 🤟😎🤟 Any openings in Snapchat
Spiegel is an excellent interview subject. His articulation on the need which Snap(chat) solves is great. He's interesting on other subjects, too. I just wished someone would question him about why Snap issued stock without any voting rights. It's not unusual that founders hold an outsized voting power relative to their financial stake, but no arrangement (in a high-profile company) is as blatant as Snap's, as far as I know. Though obviously Code is a technology event, not a financial one.
I'm certainly not arguing for short-sightedness. Doing away with the relationship between financial stake and power over the company is, however, a wildly disproportionate solution to the problem of investor's short time frames. I see it more as the leadership not willing to give up the (dictatorial) power of a startup founder. (It's worth mentioning that it's not Snap's leadership alone who's responsible for the current state of affairs. The market had to be willing to take the deal offered, thus enabling Snap's unusual terms.) Given that Spiegel's taken Snap from founding to public in a world continuously more penetrated by Facebook (and it's other services), I have no doubt that he'll be allowed a runway of at least a couple of years. But due to the current state of things, stockholders have little recourse should his strategy/execution fail. He could just decide to go down with the ship and the investors money, though that's obviously a contrived example. I have nothing against Spiegel or Snap, I'm just interested in and fascinated by the situation.
i think Spiegel is a smart kid, he has made it to an IPO despite harsh criticism, the company has been okay only for the past few controversies. If the company make a critical change that hooks like Facebook or important as google they are in to win. Facebooks, The zuck is facing the same thing, however the numbers are still good buddy. this founders are not management graduates they are smart kids making product that are kinda useful and addictive, they are gonna last a little longer, however even the great roman empire fell.
The reason they do this is b/c most of them are obsessed with Steve Jobs and Jobs got kicked out of his own company, only to come back later. Nobody wants to get kicked out of their own company, so they horde all the power they can.
I really respect this guy. Inspired by him(minus the fact that he fired 2000 employees to cut “costs” and then blew a million dollars of shareholders money on a New Year’s Eve party). SMH.
no admiration for this dude. Although I might do the same. He also paid himself 650Mil. insane. I own a bit of SNAP due to indexing so as mini mini mini owner it does piss me off.
Very high probability This could be the next big thing It got it all like Tesla and Elon Speculation , long term bulls , shorts , anti bulls , Visionary , limitless growth potential
of all people SHOULD HE KNOW THAT *RUclips INFLUENCERS* HAVE MORE REACH AND CLOUT MORE VIEWS BIGGER AUDIENCES like Joe Rogan having elon musk on his show got 16 million views in a week, Evan would get atleast 5 million? so, why does he come here to little old 70K Recode after 6 months!
Ron Hillestad, would much rather watch a challenging interview than one where the subject just gets pitched softballs and is allowed an infomercial with impunity. Sure, she’s a bit prickly and persistent but these are qualities she utilizes to keep the subject humble and extract honest responses.
+Ralph Hepburn yes I do. I am talking about this regarding the data from the stock market. I do understand they rely mostly on ad dollars little growth and little ad revenue is what will kill Snap.
This has to be one of the best interaction of Evan and he explained snapchat quite well.
11:35 is really important. Evan is smart and very self aware. For someone that young to realize the importance of coaching and, more importantly, make it available to others in the company, speaks volume. Kudos to him for that ;)
How the hell is she still interviewing people?
Yeah man totally agree
for real
Why is she being so hard on him? His ideas and values really speak to me.
I respect that he focuses on product gain, instead of the typical tech business model of expecting users to do something to be profitable. The company ends up manipulating the ux.

*Only companies that didn't have to change their GDPR was Snap and Apple.*

that lady has bad vibes

Why is Evan wearing his father’s watch
Oh, they are letting Karen's interview people now.
where is the table? first was the interviewer that was interviewing netflix CEO the something rong about this studio
I applaud the focus on "Values" but I would question the number of Corporations that made money from maintaining "values/morals" driven construct.

Very annoying interviewer, she is rude.

To be honest he could probably only have kept on 8 of those 2000 employees with that million dollars
Patrick Lim why aren't you getting lucky?
Very high probability This could be the next big thing
It got it all like Tesla and Elon
Speculation , long term bulls , shorts , anti bulls , Visionary , limitless growth potential
Is that for me?
excellent interview, buying more shares after this, thanks for being straight fwd
israeliboytoy I’m so on the fence I hope I don’t look back two years later to see it made 200% gains
GL
Snap is the walking dead, investing in Snap Chat at this price is like driving drunk. You must pray for Google to buy them.
5% more today told you this is going up
i sell you mine at IPO value, still interested?
Remind me when this is available on iTunes podcasts
where did this lady get the impression that the public thinks Evan Spiegel is a loner? I think she is the only one that thinks this lmao
of all people SHOULD HE KNOW THAT *RUclips INFLUENCERS* HAVE MORE REACH AND CLOUT MORE VIEWS BIGGER AUDIENCES like Joe Rogan having elon musk on his show got 16 million views in a week, Evan would get atleast 5 million? so, why does he come here to little old 70K Recode after 6 months!
Great Interview but the questions were extreme stupid.
He's matured.

99% of VCs now only invest in these internet companies , and my brick anf mortar business venture gets nothing. Pump and dumb
It's a very bad day for Big Loose Miranda and the rest of the angels, too.
☹
Internet companies are easy for some of us tech guys to build. Read up on me Torrance Harris at www.crunchbase.com/person/torrance-harris
She seemed unnecessarily harsh. No?
Ron Hillestad, would much rather watch a challenging interview than one where the subject just gets pitched softballs and is allowed an infomercial with impunity.
Sure, she’s a bit prickly and persistent but these are qualities she utilizes to keep the subject humble and extract honest responses.
what a dude.
hey.. it's josh
Its the best app ever
He said india is too poor for snapchat.
This guy looks like dhruv rathee.. ( if you watch Indian RUclipsrs ... You will know what I mean )
In other words... he still thinks the re-design was a good thing. Lol.

Just because you can start a company doesn't mean you can manage one.

Gonna be funny when snapchat gets in a lawsuit over only featuring rich white girls
Aahaan.
Kara is so awesome! I love to be her friend so we can troll each other lol
thin as hell
Geez this interviewer is terrible!
This dude needs to eat a burger or something
Snap is dead. It will eventually lose out to other platforms.
Jazil Zaim You know nothing about how social media works.
which platforms ?
+Ralph Hepburn yes I do. I am talking about this regarding the data from the stock market. I do understand they rely mostly on ad dollars little growth and little ad revenue is what will kill Snap.
+Julian Gilyadov I do believe that Twitter and Instagram will be in the lead since they are growing very fast and ramping up their revenue.
If u want privacy, engagement and less intrusion then SNAP! FB and insta have a different model. SNAP and FB can coexist.
