When I turned 14 my dad took me to a guy in Big Pine Key and made me take two full days of on hand boating classes. Docking was almost a full day. That was 35 years ago. I made my son take a similar class at 15 years old and he is 18 today and is great at handling the boat.
Still frozen in Colorado, can't wait for spring winds!! Started winching my boat up the trailer and wind waves so big, they washed into the boat for a few seconds. Added about 6 niches of water in the boat and was one heavy winch out. Thinking electric winch one day.
It's no joke coming into the docks anywhere in bad weather. Gauging the wind and trying to pick gears (I like to say neutral's your friend, lol) can be a challenge. You've got to come in at least once or twice as a boater in bad weather to understand how you and your boat's going to handle it. Nice vid.
I just cant believe these people trying to dock and NO LINES IN THEIR HANDS. In a bad weather approach, have your lines on the cleats and coiled at the ready. Wow. I should go down to FLA and start a safe boating class. None of these experts would show up though.
Practice. Using the wind to push your boat sideways into the dock is possible, too many skippers miscalculated this and failed to make a shallow starboard turn vs. a wide turn. Nice video. Practice that's all. Not a negative about any of these skippers. All were mindful about safety and other boats. Nice everyone. Who is the cameraman? Excellent. Thanks 😊
I like the last guy who first instinct after smashing his boat into the dock, boat not even tied up yet, is to pick up his phone and look at it. Braindead zombie lol
03:37 None of these boaters have any experience. When a dock line is tossed to you, you don't pull on it like a horse is on the other end. You take a wrap on a cleat or piling, & leverage it in.
We were caught in a storm like this out in the gulf and can tell you i got a little taste of that lightning while holding onto a stainless steel upper deck boat ladder.
I wish you could have a little bit longer shows brother I enjoy watching them I really do and it's I wish that you stay out there a little bit longer and film because I tell you I enjoy watching all your shows especially the bronco so take care of brother have a blessed day and be safe out there 🙏
Please if there is any boaters using this boat ramp and they watch this channel, please have one rope, one end tied to the bow bollard and the other end tied to the stern bollard/cleat and don't have it too short. Even better with a bit of training a looped rope both ends fitted to the centre cleat. Once you have this loop over a dock post or bollard and all you need to do is drive slowly straight forward and this will bring your boat nicely over to the side of the dock. You do need a bit of room to do this manoeuvre.
"rain isn't stopping the party" *lightning strikes* - Why is it not surprising that any of these people are going out on the water when lightning is occurring?
Do you have any idea how frequent lightning is in Florida? We'd be prisoners in our own homes if we never went out on days when there might be lightning and it can go from clear skies to thunderstorms very quickly. Hell, clear skies and thunderstorms at the same time isn't uncommon. It makes for quite the steam bath when you have a storm and sunny skies at the same time.
I boated on Lake Erie for years and it's like that here as well. Frequent storms with lightening and sudden gale force winds and the accompaning huge chop. You learn to deal with it.
I'm newer to boating but use this channel as my "what not to do." Why does everyone place the bow all the way at the end of the doc rather than closer to the middle so the stern can come around where it needs to be at the end? I typically try to come in bow first at a decent angle nearer to the middle and swing the rear after I make contact
It's easier said than done. I worked with a marine srvice company for years and have seen experienced captains totally screw up under pressure. It takes a lot of practice to dock in windy conditions.
Lol, that guy resetting by leaving the dock area... He resetted to use the wind and his momentum to his disadvantage, impressive. Also, why do everyone aim their bow at the outer most pole on the dock where they want theirstern to end up? And ofc the person up front trying to catch that very pole with the bow line, thankfully they miss their first couple of tries.
Possible if some of the people had started with a rowing boat and then progressed to an outboard motor the may haved gained the basic principles of boat handling /seamanship.
It’s actually better to stay down wind of the jetty, otherwise you will be in a pickle trying to get the boat onto the trailer. With the wind behind you, you just have someone feed out the rope so the boat stays central to the rollers. Only problem these people are having is coming at the jetty from the wind, they should all go downwind first and then come into it for more control.
My boat sits in a channel and I'm right next to a bridge that only waverunners and kayaks can go under....there are virtually no traffic or waves in my channel so the only problems I have docking are when people decide they want to help me.
Some folks are bad drivers because they think it's all fun & games until they wreck. Same with some boaters. They have no thought process or common sense.
Why is it that in boats, the captain doesn't look towards where he's backing up? This seems to be a common deficiency, along with inexperience and poor judgement.
Use the wind and water current to your advantage so that you can anticipate what it will do to your boat. Most of the boaters on Miami Boat Ramps are novices who has more money than skills and common sense. These novices would watch MBRamps of what NOT to DO and learn What to DO. Also, learn how to back up a trailer too.
I can handle boating in tough weather but the thing that would piss me off to no end are these flops on Jetskies just hanging around in the way. Mate, Go away honestly.
1:40 I disagree with the comment on stern vs bow first. If you put your stern into the wind, you can actually hold the boat straighter. If you’re bow into the wind, the wind can catch the bow easier and force it over. Nothing you can do will help compensate for that. Stern first; you have the engine back there, so your point that you pivot on is the area being directly affected.
Doesn't anyone check the weather report before going out? And I have news for these people, you will not dissolve if you get wet. It might harsh your buzz but get a grip.
What don't these people get? If you go in bow first, tie off, put it in reverse and turn the stern to the dock. If you tie of the stern, put it in forward and turn the bow to the dock. It's not rocket science. Why do so many tie off then start dragging the boat around?
Its a shame ! To many Latin guys want to be boaters and don't know anything about a boat. Just only to look important for "Women". That's what Miami is based on. Nobody fish anymore , just get a fancy boat for "Women"!
Jeezus does no one have a boat hook? Do none of these people know enuf to just let the line take the load & not try to wrestle the boat to the dock?Do any of these “captains” know to instruct the crew to just take the bow line once around the piling, and then just put it in reverse? The vessel will back down & lay against the dock.
Hasn't anyone heard of a boat hook? If someone was smart they would go to the ramps and help/show what a boat hook is for, and can do during docking. You could sell them to these stupid people and make a killing. These people have the money to buy these expensive boats, but they can't buy rope for each cleat, and a boat hook. I can't believe my eyes one guy is using 1/4" polypropylene rope from Wal*Mart. Talk about cheap!
I love this channel. Makes me feel better about my boating skills.
Makes my grandkids confident!!!!!!
I love it as well because it reinforces my belief that I will never, ever own a boat.
@@obibaddad1991 smart man lol
The ramps are so bad in Miami that I pay to dry dock my boat
Lol 😂
Camera person great job on taking one for the team, out in the rain.
And not 1 single drop on screen. He did a great job

That Yamaha captain did great threading it between those boats like that!

Just discovered this channel and it's so fascinating! Human nature and boating and FLORIDA MAN! 🤣👍👍
These people make my boating skills look really good.
For once I think the captains did a great job considering weather. When storming, all bets off just get boat secured.

When thunder roars, go boating!
Never mind the marine radio and the special weather report
Wow, a boat with people prepared on the bow and stern, I'm impressed. We don't see much of that.
Ah, the sunshine state, where every day is sunshine and blue skies. 🤣
One of the first things I learned about boating on windy days is to use the wind to your advantage!
MVP goes to the Yamaha. Those are hard enough at the dock without the wind.
Yes only in Miami do people dance on a boat dock in a thunderstorm lighting and all
Dude in the ice blue cabin cruiser did a great job 👏 😀🤙

And no one ever ties a single line and uses the engine to do the rest of the work. smh
3:11 How about attaching the line to the boat? It seems as if they are trying to make everything a bit more challenging ...
We were caught in a storm like this out in the gulf and can tell you i got a little taste of that lightning while holding onto a stainless steel upper deck boat ladder.
I remember the rain in Florida, it wasn't even cold. It was like taking a shower, with everybody.
Look at the sky. I wouldn't have even got out of my recliner!!!!
How do you know what the sky looked like when they went out? It flips back and forth between sunny and stormy quite quickly in Florida.

You ever notice the type of people riding jet skis 🤔
Stereotypes.. or are you stereotyping?
What do you mean?
Miami jet skier speeding through a 5 mile an hour zone… Not a surprise and something we see a lot
Yeap they're the same everywhere in FL
Young Americans

Go bow in,tie Bow off, then power on with right hand down.Thats for a Port tie up

Nothing like a wave runner hurrying to get out of the rain. 😂
Better then the rest out there I love this ch
At timestamp 3:22 the guy gets off the boat with a line in his hand, unfortunately the line wasn't attached to the boat.
Lol it's south Florida, partying in the rain is fun
Fenders and moored lines (to a clamp) are underrated.........! Use your hands, legs, or whatever you does not need anymore. LOL
such fantastic weather.
I notice a lot of these blokes never look behind them when they put the boat in reverse, not just this episode, a lot of them.
Storms with lightning and a boat on the water is just dumb.
It's even dumber if you happen to have graphite fishing rods stored in the overhead rocket launchers
Those women dancing on the dock at the beginning of the video... 😆. Don't mind that lightning in the background. That never hurt anybody! 🤦♂️

Just another jet skier that doesn’t obey the boating laws!
Do any of them? None that I’ve ever seen.

One would think being that Floridians can boat year round, they would be good at it…
They're terrible.
the wind CAN be your friend. use it.
They should band the jetskis in all ramps
Exactly how I feel about drone fishermen in South Africa
Agreed
I bet northerners look at this like wtf. But that's how we do in FL boating no matter rain or shine. Wait 10-15 minutes rain all gone.
More than half of the people in this video are probably northerners. If you want real Florida people, go north Florida or even central.
they are just week end warrior
Why dont they put rubber bumpers on the docks to prevent the boats from damaging themselves
@@anthonyj7989 no i get that see it enough in the videos but nobody likes using them it seems and it just seems easier
Here in New Zealand they do
@@texasautoscene110 you're right

People just don't want to get caught out in the rain on a boat. They might get wet.
Velocity had all the motor decals
Lightning. Maybe lower the VHF antenna? Or better yet, stay home…. Man, what is it with Miami boaters and their aversion to dock lines and fenders?
Please use that word "Cap" loosely...some of us have worked hard to actually earn that title....love the channel by the way!

Surf Launching in South Africa is a little different and some days more hair raising
I'd like to know why South Africa has a big ice-breaker.
3:30, all they needed was the midship line. SMH.
AND it would have been easier going upwind.
People are funny.
To the guy who makes this channel, do you even fish? Or have a boat?
Did no one check forecast or weather. Living in FL that’s the first thing you do.
Obviously you don’t have to take a boaters “driving test” to get a boaters license and it shows.
Exactly, I've been saying that for ages.
Grammar check in the title
And they drive cars on public streets too.
Ming, GA? doesn't exist... I guess it used to say Cumming, GA.
You say bow rail i think balrog

You have to be really trying to screw up docking on the windward side
