For me, imperium helped me actually hobby. Instead of buying discount boxes I had grand plans for and then not starting. It laid it all out for me. Learned how to take a manageable set of models, not having to develop a paint scheme, paint something table top then come back later to add to. When I get busy and don’t hobby for a few weeks I can just go back to following where I left off. Even taught layering, weathering ect. for painting. I kept track of costs, there are extra costs too. Savings aren’t great but for me it takes all the fuss out of planning you just have to walk out to mailbox once a month. I maybe hobby 1-2hrs a night, 3 days a week. Imperium came over 2 years. Painting for me will be 3 years at my pace, didn’t do any of the game portion but there is probably similar hobby time in that if you want.
I know when I was getting charges that added up to 80 bucks or so, I soon realized I was no getting the projected savings. I haven't received my last sub pack either. Bastards
@@itsio7188 did you contact the help? I had a fold out missing from an issue and was charged for 4 issues not 3 for the last delivery. Both times they corrected it, fold out took some time tho.
@@paulbuckley3084 of course. It's been a pain since Oct of last year. Always a month behind. My last package of this set was paid Feb. Told it will be here end of March. Now they said they "finally" got word from Warhammer and it won't be here until end of May. I'll never sub to them again. I don't even want any of my models now. It's been a bad taste in my mouth
It is also "buy now" vs. "buy over time". If you have the budget: feel free to do so. If you have not the financials to buy now, calculate a credit from the bank or where ever to buy now and the increase of the cost due to the interest one has to pay. Also GW will probably will have one to two price increases before or over the runtime of that subscription. But that are just my 2 cents as an economist who only see the valid argument in "do one really want to own all 9 CP+ or not". Regards from Germany
I respect your analysis but as someone who’s new to the hobby and trying to figure which models I like vs dislike painting the choice between different models and discounts offered weekly are personally very exciting to me!
The real value comes when adding in the premium. I didn't run the numbers in each currency, but when calculating for the US prices on the models, we are saving over 25% about $500 off the standard 15% off discounted rate. This isnt counting the paints and extras. If theres any units you dont like, I'm sure you could resell and break even. If you like Combat Patrol I think this is still a pretty good deal. If you would rather have one really big army instead I would say pass on it. If you skip on the premium the value drops quite a bit.
I was subscribed to Imperium and I ended up dropping it after 30 issues. I ended up with more stuff that I didn't really want than stuff that I did. Overall though, I think the idea of 9 combat patrols is a great idea. With a magazine like this I'd rather have an even variety of stuff rather than two big armies. There's a lot more stuff in here that I do actually want than there was in Imperium, but I'll stick with picking up individual issues here and there rather than subscribing again. As for the premium subscription, I already own 3 of the items and I have no interest in the ones I don't have.
I had a iffy feeling about this too when i saw this. I collect 3 armies at a slowish pace (Guard, Dark angels and Nids) But 40$ a month is nearing my monthly hobby budget to begin with and thus i won't be able to buy what i really want during my studies + i'll have a ton of useless spare factions
Its possibly much lower of a deal over there in the UK, but over here in the Americas, or over in Australia and New Zealand, especially with the premium, is more than worth it. And personally i dont have the budget to buy it all at once, while going with the subscription allows me to budget it much more closely to my income.
Depends, for me, I went with the imperium premium, that gave me 2 full armies + 6 more to dabble in as pallet cleansers. This subscription would fill out the rest of those 6 armies to almost 1000pts, and give me more options for necrons and SM. Id double up on the GSC issues if you can. I am a builder/painter more so than a player though, nearest place is 45mins away and its cramped and loud. The US doesnt have as many discount retailers also.
It's not for people who want to play 40K at full scale. It's for people who want to play Combat Patrol. "Buy all the combat patrols" is a legitimate way to engage in the game. It's a different game mode, presumably we will also get printed copies of the rules for it (and expanding out to the extra mini for each faction) in the magazine. Honestly if you don't have a regular group of people already playing full-scale 40K, it's probably a far better way to get "into" the game than just picking one army and building it up to 2000 points. You end up with what's basically a board game with nine interchangeable factions. Much easier to teach to someone the basic combat patrol rules and the rules for the figures included. Plus more interesting to paint and build nine different things. It's the worst of these partworks for anyone already playing 40K, by far. But I think it's the best for anyone wanting to start playing, that doesn't have easy access to a wargaming group already. (Or put more simply, no-one thinks it's particularly weird to have 9 or so Kill Teams right? They're closer in size to a Kill Team than a 2000 point army)
honestly, i'd buy it for the same reason i bought the ghost half of mortal realms and currently buying imperium. going to the local bookstore every week helps me go through college and life, it gives me motivation to keep painting and keeps a nice routine. and honestly, even if i don,t paint all the armies in it. it's still gonna be nice to have some guards to paint as a challenge etc... the main difference is more minis variety which is nice.
What people do keep missing in reviews of this is the other option - find a retailer who stocks it and cherry pick the ones you want. Forbidden Planet let you preorder a fair few issues in advance online, so if you're quick you can get stuff that way - alternatively if you've got an FP store near you then you can just pop in where they tend to get a lot of restocks and a fair few copies of most issues. FP near me also gives you a 10% discount if you have a Uni staff or student card. I'm lucky enough for one to be on my route home from work so I just pop in on the way home and see what's in. I think quite a few Tesco and WH Smiths also stock them, although it can be tougher to find them. If you can do that, the savings on the best models in this release are significant - Like I play Votann and since I already have an army I don't need another combat patrol - I'm just paying for a kahl and some warriors I don't want or need, but if it's say £20 over 2 issues (£18 w. discount) for a set of 3 Bikes then I'll be getting 6 of em. I also play Necromunda so some of the vehicles like the GSC Goliath and Atalan Jackals are excellent conversion fodder for that. The Boomdakka Snazzwagon in particular is on a single sprue so for £10 (£9) a pop I'll pick up a couple of those, but don't need to bother with any of the other Ork stuff. Also the non-combat patrol unit for each faction is undoubtedly a good deal - Like the Space Marine combat patrol is crap, but the Chaplain on Bike is an awesome model and at £10 you're getting him for a 61% discount over even the cheapest 3rd party prices.
@@timothymartin5538 I hope so but firstly, the pioneers are vehicle models as they're on bikes! Secondly the Primaris Outriders are a similar kit spread across 3 smaller frames and they were over 2 issues.
@@timothymartin5538 yeah tomb blades were an awful deal, although pioneers over two is still a decent saving. That said there's the odd issue of Stormbringer with a 3-sprue kit in there so we can but hope! If the pioneers are in one issue I'll be getting a ton of them
I subscribed to Imperium Premium and another reason not to subscribe to this is the pace of getting new stuff is relentless. I have a massive pile of opportunity from all the models i got from that subscription and i've barely made a dent in them. You really HAVE to want each model that comes for it to be worth it IMO
For me, despite the costs, this is perfect regardless. It's only a few hundred odd points of a couple of armies, and I collect 4 of the factions, Guard, Orks, Nids and SMs. The rest are genuinely nice palette cleansers and would be a break from Legions Imperialis, and my FLGS has a buy in offer for unwanted armies.
Also now been announced it will be over 90 issues. Havent seen anything about extra models. Makes all your points hit harder if thats how it works out.
Thinking you could pick-up the 8 premium models for less than £200 seems like very wishful thinking as well. Good luck finding the 8 sets, getting a low bid and not being outbid. Once you add in postage, not a chance
@@DJhayesify Yeah Ebay would be the LAST place I go for combat patrols lol... singles, bits lots, some sprues or horribly build/painted models I can strip? Heck yeah. But combat patrols or ANY box? Holy god no. I bought Into the Dark off it and I was lucky to just pay $40 more than MSRP lol. And the only reason I did that is because the box isn't made anymore and buying all the parts separate would have been $30 more than I paid for an over the MSRP Into the Dark. If I want combat patrols, a store with 15% discount is the only route that makes sense.
@chaosclg I've paid £45 including p&p for at least two combat patrols but I was lucky. It would be ridiculous to plan to do that. However, while I collect almost every army that is rare AND even I don't want every combat patrol here. So there is a saving but whoever buys into this is going to be selling some of it on ebay. This WILL bring the price down. It has for every release of these sort of magazines in the past. A number of the armies a just not popular and these probably won't make their £10 per magazine if this is bought in any volume. I think Hatchette have this one completely wrong.
Taking into account that its now 90 issues instead of 80 it seems, if you got the tyranids and space marines in the starter box (Contains SM cp + tyranid cp) and the rest as combat patrol (ignoring the extras). You actually pay more money to get the models from the magazine if thats all your interested in (assuming you buy from a local retailer instead of Gw which is about 20% off). Even taking into account the premium addition and ignoring the extras you only actually get a 7% discount ontop of the retailer 20%. However this could be an amazing thing for single pickups for example if you play orks and all the boys come in one magazine. Where this sub likely comes into its own is two main areas Newer players (but I doubt any new player would put that much in) or people who would prefer to take the £40 monthly for non-premium. Hopefully some of the sprues will be great to pick up by themselves in store. E.g if the terminators are all in one £10 for 5 terminators is great or if all 10 boys comes for £10 thats amazing for orks. Its also worthwhile to consider that some previous vehicles/walkers such as the dreadnought have came across 3!! magazines before.
3:28 "Would you buy 9 of those in one go". Not REALLY a relevant argument seeing as this is a monthly subscription model. Difference between forking out £900 in one go vs a monthly subscription- minus the added extras and magazine
Erm, it's still a saving plus the magazines, if this is what you want it's not the worst option by far. But I'm not because I don't want all those factions.
I'm definitely not doing the full subscription, but I do have an interest in some of the Tyranids to bulk up what I got from Leviathan. And I want to expand into Chaos so the CSM and WE would be fantastic to pick up at least a couple of kits for. My problem is that I live in the US so I have no idea how I'd get my hands on the individual issues
I have Iron Hands (roughly 10K), Emperor's Children (roughly 5K), Drukhari, Grey Knights and Necrons from the Imperium Premium subscription and all those others that came with it. Drukhari and Necrons have yet to be assembled. Grey Knights are stripped and waiting to be primed (I'm probably going to sell these). Now Combat Patrol is being talked about, I'm keen to have a go with World Eaters. So I'll cherry pick those angry boys at a nearby newsagents and avoid subscription.
I did have this on preorder but after a lot of feedback on this whole thing I did cancel after realising realistically I was only interested in the SM and Guard models, I do love a good weekly magazine but I'm just gonna try nab the exact issues I want, or just buy both combat patrols and save myself a huge heap of shame plastic
I don’t care money. If not saving is fine. In my case no idea of how to play nowadays. Just beginning to paint miniatures, and there are good amount of factions and premium offers even more. I think it depends on what are you looking for. Anyway nice video 👌🏼
I've never fallen into the trap of these subscriptions. Imperium nearly got me. After getting the Indomitus box, Imperium was a nice way to build on that and work my way towards having 2 HUGE armies. But eventually, I decided I did not need that and in fact, I'd rather use that money to buy a new army. I was getting into Eldar around that time and was tempted by Tau too. So I bought a start collecting for both Tau and Eldar, saving hundreds of pounds in the process and decided not to go any further with any of those factions (Necrons and Marines included.) So if Imperium and the idea of owning two humongous armies didn't entice me in, offering me 9 small armies I mostly don't want, need or even like, wasn't going to do much
Now you made me think about it I could probably just about run 9 armies if I'm allowed to include old (5th-6th edition) models. Black Legion. Death Guard. Daemons of Nurgle. Thousand Sons. Daemons of Slaanesh. Chaos Knights. Orks. Adeptus Mechanicus. Iron Warriors. Tyranids.
The trick is not to sub, but to snipe the best issues (sometimes X3 if you can). As always until number 50 most of the time. And start sub when you can't find solo issues easily in press anymore. And don't forget that it's a discount ON a discount wich are combat patrols. So yup it's a bit less, but it's still good.
Imperium is currently being released here but thankfully I can purchase back issues via their website (except the necron royal court issue boo!) so I've been picking and choosing, much better. I'll do the same with this if it's the same setup, no interest in half those combat patrols or paint issues...
For the most part i agree, subscription is dubious at best, a fair chunk of the savings are taxed back in the paint issues. I do think this is a good run for a select few, guard, cults and votann players, all of whom have the bulk of their ranges represented here, and of course anyone interested in playing any of those factions, this is your opportunity to get all your basic troops, essentially at the cheapest they will ever be again. For my needs, I'm genuinely considering a triple subscription for the first 20ish issues, but I'm the crazy eccentric type (basement dweller) and I'll be taking the opportunity to bulk out my Tyranids, and completing that surge with three hive tyrants and three brutalis is just perfect for me. To reinforce how unique my position is I will be fulfilling the following projects during this run. Infantry guard army Infantry traitor guard army Genestealer cults army Genestealer cults mounted army Beil tan stormwind army Defkopta army (sure it's only 18 defkoptas, but a fun 1000pts core) Bulking out my word bearers, especially the havocs, berzerkers and maulerfiends. Building a deathwing army (the best time to do so) hitting every spammable limit for every marine unit available in this set (not joking, I will be buying 30+ copies of issue 1 so I can take 30 deathwing knights and have new sculpt tyranid warriors). the core of a votann army Possibly enough atlan jackals to make a cadian rough riders army (probably just part of the guard army tbh). If you've read this far this is in earnest, but I also intend to wake people up to possibilities and also to my crippling addiction to plastic. This magazine is not for everyone, but it's perfect for my way of hobby, so I'm showing the extremes for what they are.
I would guess by the way that the premium rewards are laid out the armies will likely go SM + Nids -> Eldar + Chaos -> Orks + Voughtan -> Guard + Cult with the world eaters sprinkled somewhere in there. However, this is a subscription based system and its actually better on their side if they completley mix this up out of order. eg models from multiple armies in the same month.
These collections aren’t aimed at someone who already has a pile of shame. They are to get new players into the hobby. After two runs with marines, giving samples of 9 armies more than makes sense. Also, evenly spacing the payments is helpful.
I would recommend buying the individual issues - if you subscribe it's just a hobby disaster waiting to happen, but you could get some nice models you'd want for cheap this way as well as try new factions without building a huge pile of shame
Imperium looked cool, Stormbringer looks solid (but I'm not gonna start a new game system), but 9 Combat Patrols for the cost of 8? No good! I even like combat patrols and pick them up now and again, but I'm going to pick and choose which ones I want.
I like to think for myself. The plan is simple: I'll assemble and paint 9 incomplete armies, then buy what is needed to field 1000 points for each. Win all the tournaments and live happily and homeless in the alley by the tournament center, signing autographs for the very players I took down in the tournaments. And then get sincere gratitude from Games Workshop.
I mean I'll probs just sell the armies I don't want tbh but some of them I do really want may cancel it not sure see how it goes really but some of the armies I'll defo not keep tho as not my style to bother with at all and someone else can put more use to it then me. Whenever that is it arrives of course
I actually already looked into how much it would cost to just to buy the parts I would actually want and it would only cost me a quarter of the price of the whole subscription. Why would people want to commit to so many small forces for so many different factions. I bet most people don't play more than 2-3 armies
As someone who does not want all 9 combat patrols. I do bot see the value in this subscription for the first time. Only buying mutiples of certain magazines to save money on a unit or model to add to the colection. But eveb just buying the full set of magazines for a combat patrol loses its value when i add the extra postage cost to each individual issue.
I mean for me my wife plays alderi, my son plays nids and wants gene stealers . So both stealers and guard will go to him and I actively collect the rest of them but orks which my friend who does have and will take off my hands means everything is useful to me. Also you didn’t mention the extra models that are included, ie the mauler field and the Votann buggy which are incredibly hard to come by so I don’t know if it was a good assessment of the value.
gotta be strong is alot easier said then done i have a full chaos knights army to build and like 1400 points of votann to build but im really eyeing that deathwing box
Theres more than the combat patrols there, seems to be 1 extra model per set, the premium omes look decent to me and irt migjt notnbe a huge discount but still a discount. The only ones I wouldn't want would be votann and orks the rest i either already wanted to paint or bulk up existing armies anything else im sire my son would take. Deffo gonna be going for this one tbh
This is a great breakdown, a wake-up call for some that at the end of the day, you can be unhappy with the loads of plastic you have, and GW don't care cause Money! I'll probably still go for this one, since this is something we're splitting between 4 to 5 mates, so the cost of Eldar and Guard + Banshees and a Rogal Dorn seem pretty good to me. Still this is something definetively to consider, and not just throw your money at it just hopping for "a big score" of plastic.
Was going to buy it but plenty of third party sellers will typically have some kind of rewards based point system. So ultimately if I combined the 20% discount with the savings from points it would be about the same if not less and I can buy it at my own pace. And if I honestly want a particular model at a discount I can always check to see if the issue it's in is out. It's a great subscription for anyone wanting to start and start hard but not really worth it for anyone well into the hobby.
I partly agree about the terrible savings on this magazine but you are not building nine armies. The idea of Combat Patrol is to allow new or beginner players to play small games with a set force. No need to worry about being overwhelmed with experienced players affording elite, powerful squads. It is a more even battlefield and you can concentrate on how to play, the rules, the strategies. You can try out a faction that you have not tried to see if you enjoy that style. I do not think this is aimed at the 2,000 point, experienced, tournament players who just want a quick discount.
I think the savings are better than it seems, theres more than the combat patrols units in the pic, extra brushes and paint might be tat but savijg a few hundred isnt too bad
@@HippoEnjoyer yeah theres deffo at least 1 extra unit per set there, parasite of mortrex isnt in the nid box. The premium models swarmlord and brutalis dread are good value, youre essentially gonna get a pile of stuff for ebay prices without any of the nasty surprises like parts missing etc. Plenty to kit bash plenty to buff up existing armies. The imperium ones you ended up with two 2000+ pts armies More i think about it the more im sold on it.
I play necrons, tyranids, and started chaos, definitely not for me, if a friend and I went in on it, maybe but otherwise I'm not the intended target. I own leviathan.
Not the best maths or logic in this breakdown I'm afraid plus it relies on someone subscribing for the whole lot to help you point. It ignores being able to start and end subscriptions at chosen times and buying magazines individually from shops or the website directly. Just because it's not a good deal for you doesn't mean it's poor value for everyone.
Why you shouldnt buy this anyway is because of the business model behind it. Just think about it... If they can sell you this stuff for that price and make a healthy profit, why arent they just selling you this straight up? The whole point of this thing is to make you buy stuff you otherwise wouldnt obviously.
I was gonna say, they should've called this "endorphine rush" magazine, because that's really what it's for. If you love just getting random little presents in the mail every week, this thing is for you. But if you like making intelligent, calculated decisions about your hobby, this is NOT for you. Personally, I never buy models that I don't intend to use. I refused to buy Leviathan. Great deal, yes, but not for the Tyranids that I do not want!
So, your premise is that you shouldn’t sub to combat patrol because, assuming you ignore 25% of the content for reasons, you’re “only” getting the models at the same price as hunting eBay for a good deal? Real airtight case lol. This community loves to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. Assuming you want the models in the offering, the Hachette subs are very good deals by any reasonable measure. If one doesn’t want all the models or doesn’t want to wait then the product isn’t a good fit. But that doesn’t have anything to do with the price point.
Totally agree with this review. There are only savings to be made if one wants every faction. Selling the same unpopular squads on ebay won't, in my opinion, make the money back. The magazines for popular stuff will be scalped, so aiming to get only the bits you want, again in my opinion and experience from last time, won't work. I don't want the paints. I'll give this one a miss and maybe pick up anything I want for from the scalppers or those that do want to off load bits they don't want😂.
I might try for a few individual models, but I think I'll pass on subscribing. Maybe sub for the first issue, since Issue 2 is free alongside issue 1. I'm hoping the Boyz are in one issue, since that is an issue I'd want to pick up multiple times. They're kinda low value compared to the old kit due to being monopose and limited loadout, but £10 for £10 really makes it worth it in my opinion.
It's less value than other releases, but that does not make it bad? If you want to build "a" army or two, yes, it's terrible. BUUUUT what if you & perhaps some others (brother / dad / mates chipping-in) want to play MINI 40K? I mean to play the actual Combat Patrol element? Now it makes sense. You have 9 factions to play against. What's that, 36 different verses matches? Doesn't have to stop there either. Not only does OPR work really well and quick, and these would fit in perfectly into small OPR games, you have enough models you can make (or reasonably Proximate, perhaps not GW Tournament standard all of them but certainly enough for home) for multiple Kill Teams. For an EXISTING 40K player and army makers, I can't see these as useful. There are simply several or many Combat Patrols you don't want even for novelty/Kill Team/bits of bodies for the bases of your main army. But for a new person and - even better - a small crew (repeat, be they friends and/or family) I see this as better than an army-builder subscription. My real grievance with this set is they CSM _and_ World Eaters. They should have picked one or the other and given us Custodes Combat Patrol. That might have swayed me to initiate a subscription.
I’m getting out of 40K and jumping into 30K. The pace of releases is just too much, and I really don’t like the Primaris aesthetic. I’ve subbed to all four previous partworks but this one is just ‘meh’.
I did the last two 40k hatchet subscriptions and the experience I had puts me off alone! They took the money on different dates and some months they took two as the dispatched two lots in one month! There customer services are based abroad, France I think and the line was a poor connection and hard to hear, slow to respond to emails especially when they automatically sign you up to extra books or artwork which then adds more to your subscription! I opted out but they were so slow I had them delivered and charged for them, I ended up cancelling imperium subscription after week 36 it got so bad.
Agree 100% Its a good thing you explained it in detail as well, newer players might not be aware of why this isn't a good offer. Any army, especially space marines should be started with second hand models until you realize what you really want. As for the paints, Vallejo is a far superior brand in all respects. Packaging in dropper bottles with an agitator ball already inside on purchase. Big color range from historic to game colors, thinners ,mediums and primers. 18mll for 2.2€ a bottle. That's much cheaper as well.
I cant fathom asking that much money for a subscription service to slowly build a collection, and come out the other end without enough models to actually play the real game.
Don't worry... I won't But reason being is only because it is not available in the US (yet... but possibly not at all) That was a foolhardy move on their part, not making this subscription available in the US. But maybe it's just a part of the plan? They will probably make it available in Europe first, with any excess stock being offered to US in the end, but I dunno. I really wanted this and was bummed out to know I couldn't get it here. I collected the previous imperium to 57-60 I believe.
For me, imperium helped me actually hobby. Instead of buying discount boxes I had grand plans for and then not starting. It laid it all out for me. I maybe hobby 1-2hrs a night, 3 days a week. Imperium came over 2 years. Painting for me will be 3 years at my pace, didn’t do any of the game portion but there is probably similar hobby time in that if you want.

The real value comes when adding in the premium. I didn't run the numbers in each currency, but when calculating for the US prices on the models, we are saving over 25% about $500 off the standard 15% off discounted rate.
The pioneers will likely be in just one issue, it only seems to be vehicle and monster sprues they spread over issues.
@@timothymartin5538 I hope so but firstly, the pioneers are vehicle models as they're on bikes! Secondly the Primaris Outriders are a similar kit spread across 3 smaller frames and they were over 2 issues.
@@sonicwingnut that is true now you mention it, and tomb blades were spread over three.
My bad I hadn't thought it through
@@timothymartin5538 yeah tomb blades were an awful deal, although pioneers over two is still a decent saving.
I like the magazine issues themselves and I like getting it trickled in. I also have some similar issues before
Also now been announced it will be over 90 issues. Havent seen anything about extra models. Makes all your points hit harder if thats how it works out.
How haven’t you seen anything about extra models but know it’s 90 issues?
I've... never seen a combat patrol discoutned on ebay tbh.
Think the cheapest i ever got one was chaos daemons for £67 or something 😂
@@chaosclg HAH! I could see that happening haha
Yeah if i see it in the newsagent I'll pick it up. Got some Assault intercessors for kitbashing and the exclusive lieutenant that way.
Indeed. Not everyone can afford to plum out for a full set in one go; this is akin to paying in instalments. Not everyone is rich.
Erm, it's still a saving plus the magazines, if this is what you want it's not the worst option by far. But I'm not because I don't want all those factions.
It's just the fact of the surprise of having one posted. You forget its coming then Boom they arrive on your door.
I definitely agree with this video. Buying for buying sake
I’ve just started with war hammer so I’ve subscribed so I can get a feel for the game and find the right army I like
Instead of buying the whole thing, you could buy more than 2000 pts of an army or even a titan
If these came at a rate where you could keep up with painting them then it may be worth it for a while. Thats my thought.
Tyranids.
1:00 lmao all my local shops sell at MSRP so Combat Patrol is still better than what I got. Nobody I've found is selling at 20% off
Mine too. I have to order from online stores...
@@tomtricity and even then paying for shipping
The trick is not to sub, but to snipe the best issues (sometimes X3 if you can). As always until number 50 most of the time. And start sub when you can't find solo issues easily in press anymore. And don't forget that it's a discount ON a discount wich are combat patrols. So yup it's a bit less, but it's still good.
Imperium is currently being released here but thankfully I can purchase back issues via their website (except the necron royal court issue boo!) so I've been picking and choosing, much better. I'll do the same with this if it's the same setup, no interest in half those combat patrols or paint issues...
quebec?
Infantry guard army
Infantry traitor guard army
Genestealer cults army
Genestealer cults mounted army
Beil tan stormwind army
Defkopta army (sure it's only 18 defkoptas, but a fun 1000pts core)
Bulking out my word bearers, especially the havocs, berzerkers and maulerfiends.
Building a deathwing army (the best time to do so)
hitting every spammable limit for every marine unit available in this set (not joking, I will be buying 30+ copies of issue 1 so I can take 30 deathwing knights and have new sculpt tyranid warriors).
the core of a votann army
Possibly enough atlan jackals to make a cadian rough riders army (probably just part of the guard army tbh).
If you've read this far this is in earnest, but I also intend to wake people up to possibilities and also to my crippling addiction to plastic.
This magazine is not for everyone, but it's perfect for my way of hobby, so I'm showing the extremes for what they are.
Do we know if the issues will be one army at a time or will they all be spread out through the entire run?
I would guess by the way that the premium rewards are laid out the armies will likely go SM + Nids -> Eldar + Chaos -> Orks + Voughtan -> Guard + Cult with the world eaters sprinkled somewhere in there. However, this is a subscription based system and its actually better on their side if they completley mix this up out of order. eg models from multiple armies in the same month.
@@CrackerJack208 I hope your timeline is somewhat accurate.
What if you’re paid weekly?
Just gonna buy targeted issues. I mean a Terminator Captain for 3 quid...
Well i got no pile of shame remaining and i really love the weekly aspect,
Where can you sign up for a subscription
I like to think for myself. The plan is simple: I'll assemble and paint 9 incomplete armies, then buy what is needed to field 1000 points for each. Win all the tournaments and live happily and homeless in the alley by the tournament center, signing autographs for the very players I took down in the tournaments. And then get sincere gratitude from Games Workshop.
Your numbers are slightly off here 1:15 as they have said it’s planned to run for 90 issues. £9.99 x 90 = £899.10 total.
If there is one thing GW loves, it is money. Great breakdown!
wow a company liking money, what a foreign concept
A company wanting to make money? Really? What do you think the purpose of GW is?
My friends make fun of me for playing the subscription army. Now you’re telling me it’s literal!?
I'm narrowing down the number of armies I collect ... so I REALLY need to try avoid this
Theres more than the combat patrols there, seems to be 1 extra model per set, the premium omes look decent to me and irt migjt notnbe a huge discount but still a discount. The only ones I wouldn't want would be votann and orks the rest i either already wanted to paint or bulk up existing armies anything else im sire my son would take. Deffo gonna be going for this one tbh
Can these be bought individually?
Yes from certain retailers usually. Some may be able to special order.
Listen, the joy of getting mags and models or paint in the post far outweighs the micro calculation. Maybe I'm a sucker.
Im imagining over the 2 years it will be 1200€ maybe but it will easily only be 800 after you sell the stuff that i activly dont want soo
Exactly. And this magazine will allow you to do that for up to nine different armies, with a bigger discount than just buying nine combat patrols.
I think the savings are better than it seems, theres more than the combat patrols units in the pic, extra brushes and paint might be tat but savijg a few hundred isnt too bad
@@chaosclg exactly. Its nine better combat patrols for a lower price.
I am new to Warhammer 40k and not to good with painting so the magazines show me how to do stuff
I wish they did one for Horus heresy
I play necrons, tyranids, and started chaos, definitely not for me, if a friend and I went in on it, maybe but otherwise I'm not the intended target. I own leviathan.
The power of these mags is buying the money issues. No reason to actually sub
It's been confirmed it is 90 issues, not 80 now.
For as a beginner it is Perfect
But that doesn’t have anything to do with the price point.
u shouldint subscribe but u should buy these magazines from a local shop individualy
Don't subscribe, Just buy the individual ones you want from forbidden planet. That's what I'll be doing.
I’ve subbed to all four previous partworks but this one is just ‘meh’.
if it's anything like the last subscription service just pick up the ones you want at your local bookstore's magazine rack.
Please hydrate, it sounded like you were eating your microphone
I did the last two 40k hatchet subscriptions and the experience I had puts me off alone! They took the money on different dates and some months they took two as the dispatched two lots in one month! There customer services are based abroad, France I think and the line was a poor connection and hard to hear, slow to respond to emails especially when they automatically sign you up to extra books or artwork which then adds more to your subscription! I opted out but they were so slow I had them delivered and charged for them, I ended up cancelling imperium subscription after week 36 it got so bad.
Agree 100%
Its a good thing you explained it in detail as well, newer players might not be aware of why this isn't a good offer.
Don’t care, still buying it. I want models. I’m greedy for plastic
Thanks for the words of wisdom, thinking about it yeah I don’t need that in my life
Becouse it’s a racket and combat patrol rules suck
Huhh? No way the paints and brushes add up to £450.
Lmao big L on this video 😂
I cant fathom asking that much money for a subscription service to slowly build a collection, and come out the other end without enough models to actually play the real game.
Don't worry... I won't
But reason being is only because it is not available in the US (yet... but possibly not at all)
That was a foolhardy move on their part, not making this subscription available in the US. But maybe it's just a part of the plan? They will probably make it available in Europe first, with any excess stock being offered to US in the end, but I dunno. I really wanted this and was bummed out to know I couldn't get it here. I collected the previous imperium to 57-60 I believe.
