I had an '85 RM250 that I bought new back then. I was only 19 and was coming off a 125 before that. That old RM250 was extremely powerful, even leaning way over the bars it would still lift the front wheel in 3rd gear (I only weighed 135lbs back then). And the power hit was brutal, it had very little power down low and then suddenly it would hit with everything it had, very scary until you got used to it. I kept it about eight years then bought a KX500, which strangely, was much easier to ride because it had so much lower end torque and a smooth transition to mid-range and top end, no serious hit really just massive power everywhere, but easy to control.

@@BraapEffex I had an '04 KX500 that I bought new. Yeah, it was fast. Nothing could hang with it, nothing! But really it wasn't that hard to ride, just huge power at all rpms. Oh yeah, and if you could actually get traction, it could be quite dangerous if you weren't ready for it. Wheelies were a constant thing, even if you didn't want them.

The '86 CR250's were brutal, I remember. A friend of mine had one and it was crazy. I had an '85 RM250 and it was pretty dang powerful too. And to think, back then we mostly rode with just jeans and a t-shirt and whatever crappy old helmet we had. Somehow we survived though.
