I'm definitely going to get one. Not sure how much I'd like to spin but I have to keep in mind it's a backup horn... doesn't have to be another horn as valuable as my main one
sorry that happened Stantawn- my jaw dropped when I saw that bend in your Mark 6 (which is so unique and I love). On the bright side, your 6 will get fixed and in the meantime your outrageous talent makes any horn sound outstanding! Love your content and take care!
A Yamaha will play and sound just like a Selmer given equivalent playing time. I have 3 different tenors and they are in regular rotation. When the gigs come around it's 'eenie meenie minee mo'
I dropped my SBA few months ago, similar outcome - bent body, deshaped tone holes for palm keys. It surprised me that it sounded even better after it got fixed up lol so keep your hopes up:)
Wow man I’m happy for you lol. Man these accidents really make you become extremely careful. I haven’t had my horn in months due to my repairman being swamped with work. I can’t wait to get it back I’ve forgotten everything about it at this point.
As a studio musician in LA from the late 60s to the 90s and as a woodwind repairman. All I can say is I feel your pain as a player and as a tech Ca Ching. Good thing is you have a backup, a player always needs one but make sure it's in good condition and play it at least once a week so it feels familiar
right making sure it's in good condition is key. My Yamaha right now could use a tune up but It will have to do given the time. But this is a lessoned learned for sure!
Dang... I hear ya on this. I always have been a supporter in investing in a backup horn especially since it's the livelihood maker. I have a VI for my go-to. And, a Series II WAS my backup, but I wound up getting a Nexus from Jack at the Boston Sax Shop. Great sound, lighter, and it's a solid-solid back up. Good luck with your VI. (Tangent: Emilio once took a knee to my alto VI with the same problem in front of me. lol. Just about 💩 my pants!)
thanks so much Jeremy! Yeah You are right indeed. Having a good backup is essential! I never got a chance to meet Emilio. My first teacher used to talk about him all the time!
Good evrning i had the same accident with my horn it fell out of the chair n bounce like a basket ball. I watched as it bounced like a basket ball. It was my 1923 Conn new wonder split bell keys. So i know how u feel. This happened in my last 6 months of high school .i had yhe same bow .
My Grandfather took me down to Harlem n brought me from 1 of the jazz musician. I panick i was working a job i worked long hrs got the hirn repaired but they didnt straighten out the n bow better. Im playing Gardinelii intermediate Alto n Tenor . I live in Va n i was given shop address in MD who spicialize in these things. I love your sound n your silver horn wow.
That’s something really worth investing on… I’m a baritone player and I have a YBS-52 as my main and it works like a top but I’ve been searching for another baritone sax as a backup
That there is a banana bend! I have a martin committee 1 alto that had one and it was about as severe as yours. It's an ugly looking bit of damage, but with the proper tools, a skilled tech can get it out no problem. Also, once the bend has been removed the keys will move freely again. Painful to look at, but it will be good as new soon enough! Best of luck!
I' m so sorry for this one... I can really understand the feeling... Two weeks ago i dropped my tenor Mark VI for the first time in 12 years (thought case was closed) and i ended up with a pushed-in hole on the bottom of the saxophone and some minor key problems... The saxophone is repaired now and i think it sounds exactly like before... Hope your saxophone does as well! Good luck with your recording!
Glad to hear yours got fixed up proper! In most cases anything can be fixed by a great tech. Sorry to hear you had to go through that. I've never dropped my tenor there's always a first time for anything.
I get that sick feeling when I hear a story like this. I am hyper cautious when uncasing my horn at ALL times. I put the case on the floor in an area that is shielded or a safe as possible. I've had a close call on one or two occasions and after hearing stories like this many times over the years I try not to fall into the same trap. Hope it all turns out well in the end. Again, I am so sorry to hear about your misfortune.
@@StantawnKendrick Wishing you the best, and I am looking forward to seeing and listening to the video after the repair. Also, replay enjoy your RUclips content. Thank you!
My heart sank when you showed your horn...ugh! You sound excellent still on the YTS-23, but I'm sure it does not feel anywhere close to your VI...sending you my best thoughts for a successful session!
Well, the Yamaha is probably a reliable, in tune horn, even if it is different in sound. I’m sure you can pull a great sound out of it! I have no backup right now, and getting one is a way off, but what you said definitely puts it on the list.
Man, that’s tragic. I’ve had the same thing happen to my SML tenor before a gig, bent it that same way and my backup was a student model keilwerth. It played surprisingly well.
Man that sucks, sorry about this situation, GREAT ADVICE about always having a back up horn.

thanks so much Ickey! My heart was broken lol. It indeed will be fixed but this was just another lesson I had to learn.

Yeah I just think I need another option for sure. But I definitely can get away with this Yamaha for now!
oh no, our worst nightmare, hope it gets sorted asap
I'm weeping for you bro, it's a sad site.
Stay positive.
Sad to see Stantawn, but as you say 'it will be fixed.' Selmer need to make you one of their artists and provide the back-up
now THAT would be great. LOL I would love to be one of their artist... but they are hard to contact and even harder to get as an endorsement.
Thanks yamaha make great tenors. I always think open case on the floor no height no problem. God bless Rob
That Yamaha sounds amazing....

I agree with the person who suggested you sound better on the Yamaha and you should be on it every now and again

absolutely!

Correct‼️💯

yes definitely. You never know when you could have some issues that a tech can't get to soon enough.
Ouch.

yeah it was devastating for sure. Another lesson learned in this life. One time and that's enough for me. I'll use the floor from now on.

Wow but you on the YTS 23 sound amazing. Yamaha's are the most reliable back up horns (even 1st pick)
So true......

You could defintely get away with playing that Yamaha on the record lol.
Always sad when your baby gets hurt though. My condolences go out to her.
Good evening . Was your Matk 6 Tenor sax. Was the repair completed on your horn .i n didnt see any post about it . I pray it was.
I am just here to see who will be the first that comments on how you sound better on a Yamaha 😂
Loooool. It’s just been a long time since I posted. Look back. There’s not much difference tone wise. Maybe I’ve improved a bit. Hopefully lol
Good morning good comment you just removed any doubt l had about the Mark 6 being overrated and over priced
Yikes!

Haha, the story was so dramatic, but I could see by your title where it was going. Funny but terrible.
