Sounds great! I'd just like to point out that these reeds not only use Rigotti cane, but they are actually cut by Rigotti on the same machines and using the same process as other reeds made by Rigotti. This is important because, while the preference of a particular cut is a personal thing (and the cut of these Ishimoris is different than that of other reeds manufactured by Rigotti), I've found all of Rigotti's reeds to be similarly consistent.
stantawn i gotta say your one of the best saxophone youtubers in the game right now the level of quality and commentary that your provide is second to none and i think most people would agree we love seeing any topic whether its horn, mouthpiece’s, practice etc! sorry to hear about your horn man. I dropped my mark vii hard on the bow lol… one thing i can tell for sure is your tone hasn’t changed a bit im almost certain its just action adjustment’s and mechanical work, silver surfers still got the same mojo!!
Thanks so much man and thanks for watching my channel. I know I don’t upload as frequently as some other guys but I feel when I have something to share and it’s honest and not for views or anything like that… that I’m keeping it real. I definitely appreciate your comments on my sound. My horn being damaged like this has definitely had me questing everything lol. But once I realized what the issues were it made a lot of since as to why I was feeling how I was. It’s back in the shop now to have all these things corrected. I expect great results and will make a follow up video after!
I am really impressed by the Boston Sax Shop reeds. Have you tried those? Even if they split down the middle after like 5 months, they are still responsive and gives the horn access to the full registers.
@@StantawnKendrick Right on. As Jack Tyler says, it's always how you (YOU) feel when you make sound on the horn. If it works for you, then do it. Those BSS reeds seem to have a thicker tip. I play #3s on an RPC .115 with a slight baffle. Stay well and keep them reeds moist! Peace
Hi man, I know you're super busy and away from RUclips, but I would love to hear your opinion on how you practice incorporating vocabulary into your solos. I've been working on the tune East of the Sun and trying to incorporate a specific piece of language over all the dominant chords, but I'm struggling with the actual process of doing it during my practice time. Do you have any advice? Thanks - been revisiting your videos a lot recently
But you don't mind me asking what reach strength are you playing with the wood stone tenor reeds. And you mentioned I'm not really sure if you prep the weed or you used it right off the box with your gig Just curious you have a need to prep or did you just start playing You sound fantastic thank you very much for the video peace.
Hi Anthony! In this video I am using 3.5 reeds. I only soak them in warm water and play them for about 5-10 mins at normal volume levels and mid range on the horn. The next day a bit more aggressive and the following day a bit more. Then that’s about it. I know some guys just use reeds straight out of the box lol I really don’t do that anymore lol
switched from vandoren to jazz selects and man i gotta say there killer the inly thing is there not as consistent as Vandoren but the ones that are good blow the vandoren’s away plus there American cut which apparently fit better on longer facings and french fit better on medium facings
Honestly for me I use Hemke and La Voz quite a lot. I’ve tried Selects too but I don’t think they favor my setup as much. I feel maybe they just work better with Links. But it could be the American cut etc
Sounds like Misty. The bridge could have been MANY things, You sound great. I think your assessment of the equality over the entire range is right on. What mouthpiece and opening are you playing here? Thank you very much Stantawn!
@@StantawnKendrick LOL!. Thanks for the info. I have a Selmer Short Shank laying on my mouth piece table and I think I will give it a few minutes for fun.
I wanna talk about you and Misty? Although other than the bridge they're the same changes anyways, pretty much, Caveat Emptor depending on your piana player?? I wish you would do a video on Reeds. I've been playing an 8* metal Link and using Rico's for 50 odd years and am terrified to try anything else and who wouldn't be at $4 bucks a reed . I recently tried some Vandoren greens and hated them. A whiles back I had some limited luck with Hemke's but try finding 'em now? It seems over the past 20 odd years reeds have gotten worse and worse?? Could it be there's no more old growth cane available and the new can has "morphed " or evolved into something else, like box wood maybe?? Help me if you can I'm feeling down and I do appreciate having you around, so please please please help me??
I want to talk about you, misty and without a song actually. There were more than 2 lol. Yeah I enjoy Hemke too. That’s one of the best normal brand reeds out there for the sound I like. You’re right though reeds have been very interesting over the past several years. I often feel I’m wasting money because of such poor consistency
The edges of the sides of the tip of the reed are more pointed on French cut and the heart of the reed is more V shaped. USA cut is rounded off on the sides of the tip and the heart is more U shaped.

Yes indeed all Rigotti reeds and reeds made/cut by Rigotti are definitely similarly consistent!

Bought two of these today (single reeds, not boxes). They play excellent… and exactly the same!
These reeds are fire! You could order them online from Woodsys Music in Kent,Ohio. Solid music store in my area.
I am really impressed by the Boston Sax Shop reeds. Have you tried those? Even if they split down the middle after like 5 months, they are still responsive and gives the horn access to the full registers.
Hi Jeremy yes I have tried those actually. They are also made by Rigotti as a matter of fact. I have a box of 10 on my desk lol

I would love to see a video of you with the Ishimori reeds visiting JL WoodWinds in the city playing the Ishimori and JL Artists Tenor saxophones 😀
Just listened again to the whole thang. The first 8 of I wanna talk about you, the bridge to Misty great playing.. As usual.. dk
Thanks Dave! Great Ear!
Hey man! Where you been?
Sounds fantastic 👍

Wow, changing gear(ok reeds) on the fly on a gig is brave!
Just bought these bit have yet to try them. Wanted to see how they stack up to BSS reeds
Yeah they are different from BSS. They have different color profiles from each other. I like those too.
But you don't mind me asking what reach strength are you playing with the wood stone tenor reeds. What are your main reeds? I current play on BSS but find they get really soggy quite quickly. Thinking of switching back to jazz selects

Thanks so much Bob! Some of Misty, I want to talk about you and Without a Song. This is a customized Selmer Soloist short shank D

I always thought French cut meant filed, so I'm not sure what to make of unfiled French cut nomenclature.
The edges of the sides of the tip of the reed are more pointed on French cut and the heart of the reed is more V shaped. USA cut is rounded off on the sides of the tip and the heart is more U shaped.
Have you been listening to any Joe Henderson around this time? 🤔
Of course! 😂
Sounds great!!! What microphone do you use?? Thanks in advance!
In this video it’s a Rode NT1. I have used others though. This one is great 👍🏾
Have you played the ishimori tenor saxophone yet? God bless 🙏
Nah not yet. Haven’t had an opportunity to see one in person lol
Can you redo saxophone cover of Rihanna's "Woo" with The Weeknd & Travis Scott?
I'd like to use it for a future fan trailer of mine on my channel.
I Want to Talk About You, I think is the tune you are playing. Yes?
I Want To Talk About You, Misty and Without A Song
I want to talk about you, and?
Couldn't recognize a melody
I want to talk about you, misty, without a song 😉
