I’ve tried a bunch and for a time was happy with the Legere. The others not so much. Then, I grabbed some BSS filed came reeds and i have to say I still like the sound and feel of natural. Also, seemed like you intentionally blew harder and were more articulate with the Venn
The synthetic is good. Probably good enough. But the cane seems to have a little more bite. I use legere. They're not perfect, mainly coz you can't shave them, but they're good enough.
Yes there’s differences in cane vs Venn for sure. But I have to give the Venn some credit. It shines in ways. I’ll do a review some time after the holidays. I haven’t tired Legere. Matter of fact I haven’t played any synthetic reed since like the late 90s lol
@@T.H.W.O.T.H Yeah, I use a small pair of sewing scissors, and the edge that world the best is the non-cutting back of the blade. Any steel edge works if it's sharp enough, I've used kitchen knives before too.
@@lukasalihein Thanks for the tips - I'm going to give it a try. I generally use nail files on cane reeds rather than blades but I'm definitely going to experiment. 👍
I remember in highschool putting on the reed holder quickly and splitting the reed. 😆
What strength are each of those reeds? Would like to try a Venn, normally play a daddario 3s
Dang that's a pretty looking sax
The synthetic reed kind of sounded like you were fighting with it more - not sure if that was actually the case. Cane sounded great imo
I believe the synthetic reed is slightly too soft. I’ve asked D’Addario for a harder size
Haven't seen your videos in a minute ! Your tone on alto reminds me of Kenny Garrett. I need to get practicin again
Thanks man. Kenny is great! And he’s a really nice person too man. Yup I need to practice too. The holidays always throws my schedule off lol
What tune is that? I'd love to learn it
Not a tune actually! Just some sounds and lines I played 😊
Rico reeds are my way to go
I love the orange box Ricos - a little bit of time sorting through and tweaking but they give me the reedy sound the "better" brands chuck out.

You can shave them, I've been doing so for almost 10 years. Just can't go from tip to heart (gotta go the other direction).
@@lukasalihein Can I ask what you use to do that?
