I’ve always liked the FJ Cruiser. My wife and I started watching your channel because of it. We drive a 2006 Jeep LJ so it’s cool seeing similar sized vehicles out camping and exploring. Gives us ideas on what we can also try. The lights look great, it seems to fit pretty good and definitely refresh that front end look.
Congratulations! Can’t wait for more full length overlanding films. My kids enjoy watching with me and love that your content is family friendly. We appreciate you and your effort at your craft.
Hey! Just noticed your FJ Summit 12 badge. I was there for that one! Now I'm trying to remember if I saw your rig or not haha. I was the guy that won the set of TRD wheels at the end of the raffle.
I’ve got the same headlights, no halo and I love them. Much safer driving at night, decided to keep the OEM tail lights. I wish I would have upgraded them years ago! I enjoy the Yota content, keep it up.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Yeah the prices are high, but everything is. Toyota is still selling an inexpensive truck for people who can’t swing the top models. Most of the feedback I have seen is “I want a Pro and I want it to be 45k”. Never has happened and never will happen.
I have always loved the look and design of the FJ cruiser (land cruiser) but I’m glad to own a brand new Land Cruiser 78 Troopy and yes I would have rather have an earlier simple straight six diesel instead of the modern V8 diesel. Just glad they still come out with a manual transmission . Yes, I’ve commented before, and by the way, I worked as mechanic and built a number of Africa Overland trucks back in the 1990’s and even had to repair one while being a co-driver in the middle of Algeria. Plus pull apart silly old Bedford diesel coach engine north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden after it dropped a valve and destroyed two pistons! But that’s how I got a job driving these sort of adventures being a mechanic as well . Keep up your great videos and look forward to seeing your new Toyota when finally arrives. I just don’t understand all those electronics. They have to have these days and stay as far as I can away from them.
Yeah the electronics aren't my favorite, but Toyota is usually 8-10 years behind everyone else so I like to think its a bit more proven. That said, it still freaks me out to have digital gauges and everything. Either way, I am excited to start a new project soon!
I drive a 1988 XJ, so i kind of know this topic! But thats partly cuz i JUST can't part with it. But also my logic, "how about i put that 70 grand for something new into mine! Or that monthly payment!" I just can't afford something new (paid off sounds way better then brand new) .... I really dig those tail lights, quite cool. Those headlights look coooool. Looks great along side the Aux Beam off road lights (which i have as well, and i live them).
I'm really loving your channel. Thank you. I'm also looking forward to seeing your restoration or cleaning of your steel bumper. Since you're doing your modern upgrades to the FJ, what do you think of the Sumo Performance mirrors? It has a heating element and flasher in the mirrors. Have you seen them? What do you think? Thanks.
Honestly hadn't heard of them until I just now looked them up. They look pretty sweet to me! I gotta stop spending money on the Fj for the year though, so I wont be doing many more of these.
Did you have any issues with adjusting the height/level of the lights? I have the V2 Bi-LED lights from Freedom Outfitters, and I can't get them to angle down far enough. I'm constantly getting flashed and honked at on the road at night because they are hitting people in the eyes or right in their mirrors.
Each to their own.... personally id just leave these sort of things stock and focus on reliability/performance and camp/4wd setup improvements. Think about every car from the mid 2000s that teenagers all rushed to put Altezza style lighting on it and HID globes 😂 this reminds me of that trend. In 10 years time someone will be reversing all of these aesthetic/modernising modifications and putting it back to stock.
I really wanted to like Freedom Retrofitters, but I had one of the worst experiences with them ever. I live in Australia and ordered a set of lights for my FJ. They arrived, I installed them but the "daylight running light" function did not work. The support I got was woeful to the point where the owner accused me of modifying the lights and then refused to help any further. I ended up having to get a refund through my credit card company. Not great for a set of lights that cost me over $2600 AUD!
Toyota has been hard at work completely losing their way, abandoning practices that built their brand loyalty, and as*-r*ping their customers with outrageous greed (price increases)

Thanks man! The Fj is definitely a small vehicle, I am looking forward to something new with a bit more room but the Fj will always have a place.
Great series! I’m so sick of youtube shills only making new Toyota ads
Austin (founder) is a friend of mine. Great guy and his hard work really shines in the products he makes for those FJs!
Looks great man. Can’t wait to see your trail hunter

I will be rereleasing my Arkansas video tomorrow a full length video. Thanks for tuning it! I appreciate it!
I installed both sets from Freedom last fall and am super happy. Great look, super modern and the headlights and turn signals are awesome!
I am glad to hear you have had a positive experience with yours! They look great!
Looks sick! I always loved the FJ Cruisers.
A proprietary bit, you say?! That would explain a LOT, lol. Ordered.
Man... Those eyeballs on the FJ look freakin badass man!!
Yeah the JIS stuff was totally new to me! Thanks dude, I love the new look!
JIS. Yup. Discovered that while working on my Honda motorcycle. Japanese Industry Standard.
Sick !!! Love it
Thanks!
Thank you so much sir! This is awesome! 🙏

We were at the raffle. I won an RSG gift certificate. I don't you specifically, but wheels is a sweet prize!

Looks really good man!
Thanks bud!
On my to do list, looking good!
well done, the price on the new trucks aint bad. I pd 63K for my 2019 trd pro with 7k miles. that was the market still is

Nice upgrade! I'm also doing a light "refresh" but only because I smoked a tree : )
haha oh man that sucks! Off road?
There's one thing to love her old truck No car payments You're very welcome😊
I'm not sure where the housing comes from but my son works there hand assembling headlights. Small company. Kenosha Wisconsin.

Made it a new truck! Upgrading an old rig is quite satisfying!

@@IndependenceOverland I understand that you have a new project. 😉 I'm looking forward to seeing your next adventure. 👍🏽
I got the tail lights for my girls fj would you happen be able to show me how you wired the reverse lights for the tails?
Mine were plug and play. I just plugged them into the factory wiring.

I'm constantly getting flashed and honked at on the road at night because they are hitting people in the eyes or right in their mirrors.
No I didnt have any issues, but I also have super stiff springs in the read so my rear end is sticking up fairly high.
Each to their own.... personally id just leave these sort of things stock and focus on reliability/performance and camp/4wd setup improvements.

I left it the lights stock for 15 years. It was time for a change.
Where'd you get those underhood lights?
Sorry I thought I answered this. They are just cheap amazon stick on lights. amzn.to/4cWdjtV
Since I don’t have a lot of money, I deal with my janky FJ by mentally substituting janky with “well loved” and “full of character.” 😂
I did the same for years! We still love them the same!
Are you still getting the tacoma trailhunter?
Absolutely
What’s the head lights model please
Kaiju with the upgraded halos
@@IndependenceOverland thank you so much , that’s look so good
Hot. Love it.

Can a 5th gen 4Runner TRD skid plate be modded to fit a 4th gen 4Runner?
I doubt those would line up correctly.
@@IndependenceOverland close enough to mod the fit I hope
