Velar may slot in between the Range Rover Sport and the Evoque but can it's stunning looks make it a more appealing choice than either?

Well, this is interesting. You test a new British car, owned by an Indian company, but it has a German number plate and you're in Norway? Quite international, I must say ;)
xBris where in norway is this?
Ok
*It's a small world these days : )*
Mr. World Wide
They Nailed it with this one! The Velar could easily get into the hall of fame of the most beautifully designed cars ever produced.
I saw one in the flesh a few days ago (black), and i wasn't blown away tbh.Maybe the colour didn't show of the design well enough, but it was more Discovery than daddy Rangey
Waleed Saleh Yeah it's really starting to hit me how good looking this thing is.
Waleed Saleh true
utubecomment21 you have to check it with this color it really looks like it came from 2027
I refer you to the defender 90 (upto 2016).
Physical switches are much better for cars. Having to take your eyes off of the road every time you want to do anything is much more dangerous.
Andrew Malkin . I agree. They say phone use in cars is dangerous, then fill them with touchscreen that take your eyes off the road.
THANK YOU! I've been thinking that too. I guess it's just a gadget they use as a selling point. Why else would they do it?..
The strategy for removing switchgear is down to many reasons, mostly for reducing cost and a design lead change. Yes I agree nothing can match switches for tactility and safety, however with most new cars moving to Level 3 autonomy, the users can take their eyes off the road to use the screens. Its also about learning to use them, as the screens are packed with more features, therefore removing the buttons reduces cost and it means interior quality can be improved with more funding spent on materials etc. I can say that in the Velar, the screens are very intuitive!
Andrew Malkin You are not forced to use the touch screen while driving. Especially in this car, given there are still dials for some basic functions. Plus, voice control is still an option.
LarryUK another thing that's dangerous is always checking your speed as a young driver, cause there's alot of pressure for us to drive correctly or else face losing our license, it ends up with me glancing at my Speedo every 10 seconds which is very bad
Anyone who's used Jaguar/Landrover electronic systems knows that this button-less setup is terrifying.
rfayed hahaha got a good laugh out of that one!
Imagine this thing after 100,000 miles; frightening! It is very attractive. Hope it comes with the bumper to bumper warranty. lol
One time my uncle's evoque failed to pop up the gewr shift knob... It took a phone call and days for the service guy tomreprogram the computer and shit... Just forma freaking knob... Did I mention that we weren't able to attend a wedding coz ofmthat Shit?
Customers complained with the buttons, they finished the buttons! Clients are happy!
john m thats exactly why its terrifying because if one day the electronic failure occurs those touchscreen plus that knob will become your nightmare..
Hey I missed this guy, he's great
Ye I think he's good no idea why he seems to so much negativity
Yep! Totally like him. He is captivating, I could listen to him for the whole vid without visuals. He has positive energy, makes great gestures... I guess someone from Downtown Abbey seems to think human beings are meant to look a certain way.
I love the design. It is perfect.
*Totally agreed : )*
the VELAR is worth the likes
It is utterly stunning, I can't even find the right words to describe such a car
there is so much happiness when i see carfection uploaded new video.
5:52 Complaining about the strict speed limits in Norway while doing 139 in an 80 zone, lol. You might want to blur out that speedo :)
I commend you Brits, seems like it's always the worst possible weather for car reviews, even Range Rover, but you guys stick with it.
It's actually kinda nice seeing these high end, usually spotless polished rides get dirty af lol.
J T R I agree and more so than any other video the rain fits this vehicle and style of video well.
craig doss My sentiments exactly, thanks for chiming in.
Except this is not the UK ;)
Karl Shaw I know, that's not the point man. Majority of their videos the sky is pissing & the cars sport mud liveries.
It's in Norway, but the UK is "northern" enough to be out of any prolonged sun exposure.
It's a beautiful looking Range. However too many people have complained about getting error codes a few days out of the showroom
When someone living in the most beautiful country speaks for something being beautiful, it is understood, the thing must be exceptionally beautiful ❤️
Haha the analogy with apple was spot on...
the only ranger rover i would consider buying used in like 10 years. will look modern for a really long time.
My dad just bought a velar p380 Hse it’s great it looks amazing as soon as this came out he sold his previous car and bought this. The interface and interior are amazing and should look like that in every car
In person these things are incredible. Kind of annoying that the only demo ones have been the with the P380's though. For that price you're looking at a Sport, which will no doubt be replaced with a new model soon.
I saw one randomly at a service station on the way to Scotland at the start of June, gorgeous car
So most land rovers are made so that you can use the control buttons
wearing gloves, for those cold days, so do these touchscreen controls
work through gloves? Also doesn't look like there's a ton of head room,
which is one of the things I liked most about my Rover
It's quite disappointing that it only has 3 screens. At least 7 would be acceptable.
Tiago Ruivo so corny
Corny means???/ Non english native...
Tiago Ruivo its hard to explain.
7 it’s a car not an Apple shop geez
The only part I love about it it's the second screen for the A/C and driving modes.
That thumbnail is elegant and justifies the beauty of this car
Beautiful and competent. JLR are on a roll right now making some absolutely terrific cars.
do you have to wear a beige turtle neck with maroon cardigan to drive one?
clearly it doesn't though
Greg McNab hahahaha
*Lol*
did he just wake up?
Focus on the car. The Velar is the focal point of this review.
*The most beautiful 4x4 currently : )*
What a passionate delivery. Great job.
The sigh of disappointment when the video starts without Alex's voice :(
lol true but it's no loss
He left carfection
please tell us you're joking
SaLAD give the guy some respect you can't floor that beautiful video and that SUV tho my God
Matriox 688 wait, really???
I'm sooo proud seeing the best choice car of the year 2018 is actually in the you tube~
Is it me or the driver sits way too closed to the steering wheel? Dude look so uncomfortable 😂😂
Yong Mei I could not get over his driving position the whole time!
Yong Mei most people who go to the race track (and get pro level instruction) find out they are sitting too far from the wheel and the pedals
I wish I could buy a beautiful car like this and drive it for years. Imagine a suv with this styling with excellent reliability. That's a dream.
2 watches, turtleneck and a BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNN cardigan... I can't even...
0YouCanCallMeAl0 hahahahaha
I've been subscribed to this channel for a long time and just seeing the progression of the channel is amazing! You guys are killing it 👍🏻👌🏻
You know they have combs in UK right?
Spectacular video, Carfection.
Goddamit, your reviews make me want the cars way more than i should!
That is my next car... hopefully!
OMG.. You are so good. Fantastic detailing .. Keep up the good work and all the best.
Missing the howling r8 v8!
Great video as usual and people need to give Drew the respect he deserves.
He may not be as animated when he talks like Alex is, but his analysis of the car and what it means to the car world is spot on.
But mate, your hair does make you look like you just got out of bed hahaha
This car is gorgeous and it looks like they finally moved the window switches to a lower level. May that detail span across all Land Rovers.
This video, really made me sure I want a Mercedes GLC43 from this class of course.
Whoa that interior is beautiful
A very articulate and unabashed eulogy. I wonder if we could actually have a review next time.
Man, she's gorgeous.
Just test drove this, absolutely amazing
This car it looks so amazing. unfortinatly i will never be able afford one
where was this filmed its beautiful
5:54
Had the chance to spend a bit of time being driven in one. Wasn't hugely impressed; it has extra toys, but the lower-end engine is gutless and in all honestly, it's really no more luxurious or comfortable than e.g. a Kia Sportage inside. The touchscreen isn't a great idea either for all the reasons everyone's spotted - I am no newbie with technology, but it took me about 45 seconds to figure out where the volume knob was for the radio. It's just not intuitive, and lacks any kind of haptics to boot.
finally a classy Rover
I love the high tech & the design & style of it except the rear end (looks like a Chinese version of the evoque), and yeah! I'm waiting for the SVR version as all of you do.😆
Golden Member I believe they only do such a thing with their top end line of vehicles, best range rover has the svr package, best f-type has the svr package as well
This seems more like an ad and less like a review
I hope this car is reliable
lol it's a Range so I doubt it.
Haha land rover and reliability dont really match.
Samuel Wu but the diesel ?
Soulx CrusherX Diesel or gas, there's always gonna be problems associated with Rovers. Air suspension, electronics, etc.
Benjamin Koranten HaHa Don't hold your breath, my friend.
She's beauty. I like the interior design the most.
That is a beautiful beast of a car, I love the name. Great video, however I would of liked to have seen the boot space etc .....
I am always scratching my head at all the people claiming that land rover/range rover have poor reliability. I guess people see what they want to believe. But I have a hard time believing that all the commenters have even driven a rover let alone ever owned one.
I have owned Land Rovers all my driving life, and have had every model from a Series II to a modern Range Rover. I haven't owned one of the Evoques or Velars but I can't imagine they are that different. I have also owned Fords, Jeeps, Dodge, Hondas, Nissans, and a Toyota. The Ford blew a transmission when the speedo plug came undone after a dealer service. One Jeep rusted in half after six years from new, plus it had cracked the transfer case. The Dodge was a Cummins which blew an injector rail on a major highway, sprayed diesel all over the road and engine bay which needed a hazmat fire truck to respond. I had two Hondas have a ruin water pump which caused the timing belt to slip which caused total engine failure on one and ruined the valves and rockers on the other. One of the Nissans has a CVT transmission which is crap, it actually stalls when cold in a sub tropical environment and the Toyota needed a compleat new frame as it rusted out. But they didn't replace the rusted bumper.
All of the Japanese cars I had in a certain time frame had to have their airbags replaced as they randomly blew up, the Toyota was also recalled for a sticking accelerator
On the other hand not one of my land rovers or range rovers have ever let me down. They have all had various issues after a hundred and some odd thousands miles but never something that caused a major issue. I have also driven 26 yo Series III after buying it sight unseen, from Florida to New England to Washington state.
So maybe I am just really lucky with rovers and unlucky with other cars, but if that's case then it just shows there is something for everyone and we should be glad that's the case.
I must say I share your experience as well. And like you said, most of the commenters probably never owned one, they just make excuses to not get one probably because they didn't work hard enough to acquire one. I was a BMW guy once, dealt with major problems with all 7 of them, different models and series. I am on my 4th Range Rover, Velar being the latest one and still have my most reliable work horse off-roader LR3 (Discovery 3) 2007 in my possession and going strong. I ride it rough, trash it, go off-roading and just maintain it as you would like a normal car. No problems whatsoever! And Velar is a treat so far! Loving it...
I agree with both of you, had 2 range rovers, velar now. Both amazingly reliable vehicles.
This is by far the best looking car of a generation
Awsome review, I guess I have made up my mind on which Land Rover, Range Rover to go for.
I want this car so bad but I just got my range rover back from the repair shop, for the second time this week. For the smallest simplest problem. Why can I have range rover design and Toyota reliability?
I could have sworn that the Velar would be bigger than that, with possible three row seating. Guess I was wrong. But it is a beauty.
Its raining in every Carfection video LOL.
Totally agree. This is the car I want.
"You don't know you need it until you see it"
This is how companies convince us to consume when in reality we have already been satisfied.
When they update the full-size Range Rover to look like this inside and out it will be the undisputed king of the big SUVs. Imagine if they put a Bentley level interior as an option that would be incredible.
I like the New opening sequence.
Best Land Rover yet
My friend just rejected his second Disco Sport. Both had numerous minor faults from new that JLR and the dealer were unable to fix. Unacceptable on a £40k brand new car.
Man, it really is gorgeous.
Chris Harris, Alex, and Carlos Lago for Top Gear
perfect
His fashion style is "Derelict" by Mugatu.
gunna get one in black! beautiful suv!
how about reliability ?
Why is the guy wearing 2! watches? 0_o
So that he wouldn't have to shoot this video time after time.
He's making up for lost time
one of them is a range rover activity key, A waterproof alternative for your keys.
This is what the vogue and sport should have looked like. I was not a fan when they released them and up to now, they have still yet to grow on me. Loved the previous sport look more
Beautiful Environment
You can tell he hasn't showered in a few days atleast by that oily bed hair
*His look is causing a a bit of a stir : )*
I don't really like SUV's but this is gorgeous
I also like this car, the luxury, the comfort and fit and finish. However, due to the viewpoint of your camera from your right, I can see a regular, very cheap plastic look to the steering column cover. Isn't there something they could do with that?
Beautiful video. Beautiful car!
seems like there's a considerable amount of lag for the touch screen systems :S
I would like an off-road review of this car. It’s a Range Rover, it should be capable of handling a bit of mud!
what’s the color name of this velar?
great video as always! 🙏🏼
Yes! it is so good looking it really is Simply Sublime - No other contemporary SUV in this class can match that mix of future, sportiness and elegance IMO. - Great Review!!
It´s likely that Range Rover has created a whole brand new and direction pointing DNA update creating the Velar. I´m trying to think about another current SUV that can match it in this class and I can´t come to think of any really.
He is the MOST COZY person in the world while he is driving a Range Rover Velar in the light mist of rain while wearing a turtle neck with a burgundy cardigan and Apple Watch lol.
this car is more appealing than the Sport, Vogue and Evoque all combined
Sir, How you forget the the new infotainment of Germans The all new MBUX of Mercedes and new idrive 7.0 of BMW and Audi's new Dual User interface. Sorry for that but these are the best Infotainment system in the whole market now😧
Fantastic Video
May I ask where you got this red cardigan from? It's looking great!
This car looks dope 👌
*So agree : )*
I really love this car
That is what i call a great review
Where did u shoot the video..? amazing place.
Hey nice RR VELAR review man!
Whats up with the VO? It sounds so muffled. Love the rest of the review though :)
quality review of a quality car
Excellent journalist
How can he sit so close to the wheel? Arms at a 90° angle, that's really something.
Very well made video. I share the same views as you do! All the best🌸
For some reason I believe range rover is looking more towards a Toyota like shape. It's kinda missing it's previous royal and prestige look.
Please compare Velar and new Evoque (2018).
That's a nice car by all standards
