Great video! Interesting point on the direction of lateral movement, it's never something I've thought about/noticed. Will definitely be bearing this in mind when I'm watching stuff from now
It's a technique as old as the earliest westerns. It's been in most film history books I've opened. That and the 180 degree rule of staging helps viewers understand geography. And that goes back to theatre where viewers only see the action from the side they sit. So, while it's not exactly something he came up with. It still is a very much useful technique to learn. :)
@@jmalmstenahh my bad if I implied he came up with it, that’s not the intention. I’m just highlighting a scene that I think uses it well. That’s why I shown lord of the rings footage as well and shown game footage, and mentioned it’s a technique used in cinema, but sabu just uses it well in that sequence. I thought I managed to highlight it’s a well known technique but apologies if I did not
One of your videos popped up in my recommended a couple weeks ago and I quickly flew through all your videos. You’ve quickly become one of my favourite film RUclipsrs. Pretty much every video is showcasing something exciting that I’ve never heard of and it leaves me keen to watch more cinema
This is a great video mate! So far i've only seen Postman Blues but youv'e inspired me to watch more of his filmography. Got to love Third Window releases , what a god send for fans of Japanese cinema. I'd love for you to tackle a video on Toshiaki Toyoda or Katsuhito Ishii down the line
Thanks man I really appreciate the support. On the third window box set of Ishii’s films I actually have a video essay on there all about his films, but I need to make one for this channel. I made a video about the taste of tea titled “sometimes films are about nothing and that’s okay” that you might enjoy. Toyoda is on my list for sure!!
this video was so good!!! SABU is one of my favorite directors, so it was really nice to hear you highlight his work and share a very characteristic aspect of it!!! i think the way you put it was so informative and concise too!!! btw, whats your favorite film from him?
Wow thank you! That really means a lot. I’d find it hard to pick a favourite, I truly love the energy of Dangan Runner, but I also adore unlucky monkey, but then I find postman blues has the best of both of those. I probably find myself rewatching Dangan Runner the most though. How about yourself?
first time i’ve seen someone talk about SABU’S films! great video man
@@zaffr0n thanks glad you enjoyed it!

Lateral movement is always a weird and fun thing to pay attention to… feels so obvious but we notice in such a subconscious way

Those 3 characters have a chance of winning King's The Running Man.
That would be a fun game… which characters could have a chance of winning the running man haha!
